~ Hildegard von Krone

Background

Hildegard von Krone, often called Hilde, is a major protagonist of the Soulcalibur series. She serves as the princess of the Kingdom of Wolfkrone, who serves as a key member of the resistance against the Azure Knight, Nightmare, and his malfested minions. After the unholy event known as the Evil Seed wreaked havoc through Wolfkrone and corrupted her own father, Hilde has remained resolute in her quest to destroy Soul Edge and bring peace back to her people.

"Father, we leave today."

Hilde was having an audience with the king in a closed stone chamber at the very top of the castle tower. Since the destruction known as the Evil Seed had swept across the kingdom, her father had been lost in a fog of madness and confined to this tiny, lonely cell. She had never been able to put that woeful event behind her, but weakness was not an option. The survival of the Kingdom of Wolfkrone depended on her now.

Hilde purified herself in preparation to lead her army to battle, and then donned her armor and helm. She thought back to an incident several days earlier: upon coming to the assistance of a troop of mercenaries traveling through Wolfkrone, she had learned that a man called Siegfried was about to enter Ostrheinsburg alone. Hilde found Siegfried and contrived to meet him, thinking they could work together towards a common goal. But the knight would have nothing to do with her; he would take on the cursed city alone.

Hilde took it as a sign; perhaps the dawn her kingdom had prayed for all these years was finally coming to end their long nightmare. At daybreak, she gave the command for all the forces of Wolfkrone to march. She herself rode at the head of the army, her thoughts heavy. Would she be able to lead her kingdom to a new dawn?

Hilde's army proudly triumphed in the battle against the cursed sword; destroying the wretched Soul Edge before the justice of the holy sword, Soul Calibur, wielded by her friend, Siegfried. However, even after Nightmare's destruction, Hilde still found her kingdom to be in turmoil, tragically drained of the Wolfkrone legacy, and poisoned by the terrors of the past Azure Knight.

Despite this, Hilde still held on to the leadership born from her blood, and vowed to restore her homeland at all costs. Ordering her people to depart from the ruins, the determined princess traveled from nation to nation, negotiating land for the ones who followed her as she continued searching for locations to resettle.

Seventeen years passed. As she and her republic became settled, Hilde received a distasteful message from Siegfried, being informed that a number of malfested planned to bring war upon her throne. Refusing to fall, Hilde immediately assembled her troops alongside Siegfried, anxious to put an end to the demonic evil and finally bring peace upon Wolfkrone.

Deep within her soul, Hilde knew that she may not live to witness her subjects' safe return home. However, her two children might.

Equipment

  • Glänzende Nova & Frischer Himmel: Treasured weapons of the Wolfkrone Kingdom passed down for generations. It is the tradition and the pride of Wolfkrone for the ruler themselves to wield this sword and spear upon the battlefield. The found king known as "the Wolf" famously wielded these arms, and since then, they have been restored and refined by successive rulers into the finest weapons of each generation. When brandished by Wolfkrone's monarch, the glint of their steel has long sparked bravery in soldiers' hearts, urging them forward to forge an impressive record of glorious victories.

Optional Equipment

  • Corsesca & Broadsword: A corsesca is a type of polearm first developed in the 15th century, and one of many that became widely used throughout Europe after the turn of the 16th. Its name comes from the island of Corsica. The "broad" in broadsword may seem to indicate a particularly wide blade, but the name was only used to distinguish it from the thin rapier, a popular weapon at the time.
  • Scorpion: A polearm named for the scorpion woven into the flag affixed to its haft. Its head is similar to a Swiss halberd, but instead of one talon, it sports multiple. Given that the sword has similar spikes, it can be assumed that the two weapons were made as a pair.
  • Eisonowaki & Kandachi: A half-sickle spear named after a typhoon that ravaged Japan in the 10th century, and a pointed, double-edged katana, inscribed with a name meaning "thunderclap." They were originally crafted as being ceremonial offerings to the wind and thunder gods. However, in the Warring States Period, a powerful warlord demanded them as gifts, and they were eventually stained with blood on the battlefield.
  • Zhang Ba Shemao: The great general Zhang Fei served as a high-ranked warrior in mainland China during the Later Han Dynasty and early Three Kingdoms Period. Even after his death, his exploits remained well-known in song and legend, and he was eventually immortalized in the novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms." This classic story depicts him with a serpent-shaped spear 1.8 zhang in length, but in reality, this weapon only came into use during the much later Ming Dynasty. The spearhead's serpentine curves allow it to cut deep into its enemies, leaving terrible wounds in its wake.
  • Ga-Derg & Ga-Boi: Hilde's most powerful weapon. This is a set of golden weapons, with the spear being a three-pronged trident, and the short sword being a jagged golden knife.
  • Eighteenth Hole: Hilde's joke weapon. It resembles the flags found in the holes in golf courses. The sword is a golf club held in a golf bag scabbard.

Other

Weaknesses: Hilde's impulsive nature, pride, and self-serving tendencies can sometimes lead her to make poor decisions and cause problems for herself and others.
