Explanations
The Secret to Battling
It's explained by Ava's dad that the secret to a Pokémon battle is imagining in one's head that the battle is real and actually happening along with their Pokémon being besides them[1]. The imagination makes one grow a strong bond with their Pokémon being able to picture the battles in their mind, see the stadium and do better[1]. Seeing it as a battlefield allows the card dueler to perform more into the zone[1] forging a bond with the Pokémon even though they aren't actually there[1]. This also allows them to see the multiple possibilities in a battle to use to counter the opponent[1].
Imagining can also allow someone to calm down when having a panic attack or nervous breakdown[5].
Trivia
- Celestine's Mismagius ex does not have a Misdreavus attached to it, meaning it was played directly instead of being evolved. This is illegal, as Mismagius ex is not classified as a Basic Pokémon and therefore cannot be played directly in this manner.
- The effects used by Ava to win agaisnt Celestine in Regionals did not exist at the time of the episode's release.
- In the final match, Celestine attaches Panic Mask (Lost Origin 165) to her Mismagius ex. This card protects the Pokémon from taking damage from an opposing Pokémon that has 40 HP or less remaining. Celestine then deals 70 damage to Ava's Gloom (Lost Origin 2), which has a maximum of 80 HP, leaving it with 10 HP remaining. This makes Panic Mask effective, and this situation is what the purple binding in the imagination scene represents.
- Some information is missing, as Ava's Vileplume and Celestine's Mismagius do not currently exist as real TCG cards. The Mismagius appears to have a maximum of 260 HP and 60 damage applied to it, while the Dizzying Pollen move on Ava's Vileplume appears to list 110 power, but with a condition attached. For Vileplume to have defeated the Mismagius, the condition of landing heads for Dizzying Pollen must have raised the move's power to at least 200.
