[#95]

If you have missed, there's a thread for talking about potential versus threads for Dragon Ball characters. Someone requested Sans vs Goku, so here we are!

Scenario: Son Goku is a saiyan striving for a strong opponent, while Sans tries to act aloof and casual, Goku can sense a strange innate power within him and wishes to challenge him to a fight. While Sans initially refuses, Goku keeps repeatedly begging to where Sans goes "eh, sure. what's the harm?"

I'd say Sans could win this because his attacks are spiritual and not physical, something Goku can't withstand, and even then, he usually gets the first turn and starts strong from the beginning unlike Goku, who is usually more confident and relaxed in fights

(I need to update Sans standard tactics in reference to this as this will be important to in-character battles for the future)

One thing I will note is due to the nature of Sans as shown in the 10th anniversary livestream he doesn't like fighting, which technically makes sense as genocide route he only does it because he can't afford to be lazy for what happens next.

We also see even when you fully convince him to fight you during the 10th anniversary livestream he won't hurt you but instead push you out of the battlefield.

So these are things to consider.

Though it should be noted pushing out of the battlefield would count as a loss as you can only fight monsters within their battle box, as noted even by Gerson using the fact that he's a shopkeep to avoid fighting. Also if you try to attack Sans even during pacifist he will just instantly push you out.

I think this matchup should ultimately be considered inconclusive. While it's true that Sans can force you out of the battle box, that doesn't permanently end the confrontation. You can simply return and challenge him again as many times as necessary.

In other words, being pushed out of the battle box doesn't represent a decisive victory for Sans it only interrupts the fight temporarily. Since there's nothing preventing the opponent from coming back and re-engaging him, I don't think that outcome should be treated as a definitive win, but rather as an inconclusive result, because they basically return to the same place before the battle starts.

From the implication of the stream it would need to be a another request from Goku and Sans would have to accept. This is further shown even if you complete the full pacifist fight, he ends it by pushing you out and you cannot rematch him.

Yes, this just reinforces that it should be inconclusive.

I either see this as some sort of Goku loss because Sans pushes him out of the battlefield, or an incon because he keeps trying to fight, gets pushed out, goes again, gets pushed out, goes again, gets pushed out, eats a burger, gets pushed out from there, goes back to fight Sans, gets pushed out, tries to fight again, gets pushed out, tries to fight again, gets pushed out, tries to fight again, gets pushed out, so on and so forth.
