Background

The Uboa event is an event that takes place within Yume Nikki, and YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY-.

The event is triggered in the original Yume Nikki through Madotsuki turning the lights off in Poniko's room. It is a 1/64 chance to occur.

The event is trigged the same way in YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY-, though the chance is currently not listed.

Name Meaning

The word Uboa came from the death throe of the antagonist of Final Fantasy II, known as the “Emperor”, the word was later used in a 2chan thread to describe the 1/64 trick in Poniko's room, dubbing the fanon name for the event "Uboa" and the character by proxy.

Notable Characters

• Poniko: Poniko is likely the one who transforms into Uboa as Uboa pops up in her spot and does not appear if she is killed.
• Madotsuki: The event is achieved through a 1/64 chance of Madotsuki repeatedly turning off the lights, the same event happening within -Dream Diary-.

Result

• Yume Nikki: Interacting with Uboa sends Madotsuki into Uboa's Trap, a looping area in the White Dessert. The only way to escape is either using the Medamaude to teleport back to the Nexus or pinching her own cheeks to wake up.
• YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY-
  • With the Lantern: Bringing the Lantern over to where Poniko originally was takes Madotsuki to Uboa's world where after chasing after Uboa, she gets the Mask of Fear.
  • Without the Lantern: If Madotsuki walks over to Uboa without the lantern she sees images of Uboa and is killed, and woken up forcibly.

Event Effects

• Reality Warping (Passive; Upon Uboa entering, the entire room changes along with the background outside the window. Madotsuki is unable to leave the room without directly interacting with Uboa)
• Technology Manipulation (The light can no longer turn back on while Uboa is present in the room)
• Vibration Manipulation (Upon transforming into Uboa, the entire room starts shaking)

Theories

Poniko Annoyed

A popular and simple theory for this event is in response to Poniko being annoyed by Madotsuki repeatedly turning off the lights. This is further supported in -Dream Diary- where Poniko is studying or writing something in her notebook and does not want Madotsuki to see and will turn into Uboa after Madotsuki repeatedly turns the lights off and on.
