Background

Suikoden is a series of video games produced by Konami. Although Suikoden is not one of Konami's longest-running franchises, it is highly popular and has spanned several video game consoles, from Sega consoles to, more commonly, the PlayStation. The very first game of the series, Suikoden, released in 1995 for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn.

The Suikoden series usually follows a bright-eyed young protagonist, who embarks on a journey to recruit as many allies as possible in order to change the course of a looming war. Each game features a major figure known as the Tenkai Star, often (but not always) acting as the main protagonist of the game, who is tasked with gathering 108 allies, who are known as the 108 Stars of Destiny. This plot is based directly on that of the ancient Chinese classical novel, Shui Hu Zhuan.

Each title of the series so far has been a JRPG, though the gameplay is quite unique. Although most regular combat plays like a standard Final Fantasy-esque JRPG, it also incorporates Fire Emblem-esque war battles and several minigames that differentiate it. Furthermore, due to the plot revolving around the 108 Stars of Destiny, the amount of playable characters dwarfs most JRPGs, and makes the game focus more around recruiting allies than it does combat.

The magic system in the game is denoted by Runes, which are magical objects that can be equipped onto weapons or certain parts of the body to grant all sorts of elemental abilities. The most powerful Runes of the series, the 27 True Runes, are one-of-a-kind Runes that only allow themselves to be use by those whom they choose, and each hold incredible power. More often than not, one of the 27 True Runes will see itself bonding with the main protagonist in some way or another.

  • Tenkai Star: Also called the Chief Star of the Heavens, the Tenkai Star is an individual who was tasked with gathering the 108 Stars of Destiny, in order to change the tides of war. The Tenkai Star possesses extremely social influencing abilities, noted to be able to change the hearts of people and alter fate entirely in order to complete their task.
  • 108 Stars of Destiny: A group of one hundred and eight people who are gathered by the Tenkai Stars to change the tides of war. Although most of them are often soldiers who directly fight in the war, these 108 Stars can be anything ranging from cooks to librarians to tacticians to simply moral support. Each one comes from incredibly different backgrounds with widely different personalities, but are all drawn together by the Tenkai Star.
  • Rune: A set of magical artifacts that can be equipped to body parts and weapons. Each Rune wields vastly different abilities and elemental types, from fire to wind to lightning to earth, and many many more. Every type of spell in the series is used through a Rune, and are thus found on pretty much every character in the series.
  • 27 True Runes: It is said that in the beginning of the world, two brothers known as Sword and Shield fought each other to the death. When they clashes, the world was formed and the sparks from their clash created the stars. The shards of their weapons became the 27 True Runes, which were legendary god-like Runes far beyond any other Rune in the world. These Runes hold some degree of sentience, able to choose their own holders, and drain life from their holders if they abuse their power. It is said that the destruction of even one True Rune could destroy an entire continent.

Power of the Verse

This verse is decently powerful, with the standard characters reaching Room level with Athletic Human travel speeds and Subsonic reaction speeds. However, the power gets elevated a lot when taken into consideration the power given off when a True Rune is destroyed, which is said to be at Continent level, however this obviously is only reached under extremely strained circumstances.

Although the verse is fairly tame when it comes to an abundance of feats, it has an absurd amount of hax which evens the playing field. This verse’s general hax include Elemental Manipulation, Fate Manipulation, Death Manipulation, BFR, etc.
