Background

Tolkien's Legendarium is a collection of works penned by J. R. R. Tolkien, encapsulating everything that exists within the fictional world of Middle-earth. The verse is usually referred to by the name of the most popular of its novels, "The Lord of the Rings", though the series actually began in 1937 with "The Hobbit".

The tales of Middle-earth are all heavy in themes of fantasy and magic, and actually became the inspiration for the entire genre of fantasy as we see it today. With entire established races, spanning over thousands of years, as well as fully-developed written languages and family trees, Tolkien's Legendarium stands as one of the most expansive fictional universes of all time.

This series was made even more popular due to the film adaptations made by director Peter Jackson, starting with "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" in 2001, and ending with "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" in 2014.

Terms

  • Eru Ilúvatar: Commonly referred to as simply Ilúvatar, or The One, this is the Creator of all things within Tolkien's Legendarium. He is referred to as omniscient and omnipotent, existing eternally within the Timeless Halls. He possesses the Flame Imperishable within his spirit that kindles existence out of nothing.
  • Eä: The Created World, Eä is the Quenya name for the universe. It is a realization of the visions of the Ainur, a vision given to them by Eru Ilúvatar which is revealed to them as they sing.
  • Arda: The world as a whole, created by Ilúvatar. It was shaped by the Valar, creating continental masses such as Middle-earth.
  • Middle-earth: A large continent within Arda in which most of Tolkien's most famous works, namely The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings take place. This land is for the Children of Ilúvatar; namely Elves, Dwarves, and Men, among few others.
  • Age: A unit of time commonly used to refer to different periods of Arda. There are four known ages, with each possessing their own unique tales and each being ended by climactic events. The Fourth Age, for instance, began following Sauron's defeated at the climax of the War of the Ring. The two most well-known Tolkien stories take place within the Third Age.

Power of the Verse

The verse has characters around Above Average Human level in both combat and speed, as the verse is fairly standard in terms of its feats. Some races, such as Hobbits, even get as low as Below Average Human level, though this can be bolstered through use of powerful Elven weaponry and the like. Those who possess Rings of Power have potential for great destructive power, though this goes majorly unseen.

The hax of most of the standard races in this verse include Sheer Will, Supernatural Luck, Pure Heart, Weapon Mastery. However, those in possession of a Ring of Power can obtain hax such as Immortality, Social Influencing, BFR, and Telepathy.
