“ | No matter how hard one may train to strengthen oneself... all living things exist within certain limits. If one overdoes it, one's very own power will just damage oneself. Or else one's own self may be lost, and what will be left is a rampaging beast-like the monsters. Therefore, all living beings grow only within these bounds... where they won't lose their purpose, their reason. These are the limits put onto us by nature... by the gods themselves. We may dub these parameters of growth one's limiters... | „ |
~ Dr. I. Genus to Zombieman |
Background
A limiter is a theoretical barrier that restricts the physical growth of a being. Dr. Genus first coined the term to explain how Saitama obtained his strength. According to his theory, God placed a growth limitation on every being to prevent them from losing purpose. No matter how much one grows, one will eventually hit this upper limit where there is no potential to develop further strength. However, an individual can remove their limiter, which results in the development of immeasurable strength.
It is noted that monsters are not a result of one surpassing their limiter and merely just an extension to increase their strength. Beings like Gyoro Gyoro experimented with how to get one to remove their limiter and only found potential with Orochi and Garou.
Uses
- Accelerated Development: Passive, Physical Stats & Abilities; Limiter Removal, allows for endless growth as there is no intrinsic limit placed on people[3].
- Adaptation: Garou has shown to increase himself to blitzing and overpowering Darkshine, who previously managed to break his entire ribcage, by breaking his limiter[4].
- Supernatural Resilience: Characters like Garou were able to survive being ripped apart and a hole in his chest[5].
- Resurrection: To experience explosive growth, one must be on the brink of death and die than resurrect[6].
Resistances
- BFR: Forced Teleportation; Child Emperor due to his strong will, can break out of Pheonix Space[7].
- Mind Manipulation & Absorption: Psykos resisted Orochi absorbing them into them and taking over their mind through sheer will[8].
- Sleep Manipulation: Through sheer will and getting pumped up Metal Bat can resist the tranquilizing odor that made him nearly lose consciousness[10].
- Empathic Manipulation: Fubuki is able to resist Monster Princess' whip due to having a strong will where her whip can turn one into a slave[11].
