Background
OFF is a French RPG game created in 2007 by Mortis Ghost and his team, Unproductive Fun Time. It has garnered a sizable following for its story, characters and atmosphere, particularly after its translation into English. It is about a mysterious being known as the Batter, who is described being on an "important mission". The Batter then travels through four bizarre Zones in the world, revealing more as the game goes on.
Power of the Verse
The verse sports various superhumans with superhuman strength and speed, being able to fight enemies the size of buildings. The verse also has a good bit of different statuses with its Status Effect Inducement, along with every attack essentially being imbued by an abstract idea giving the entire cast Non-Standard Interaction.
Explanations
- Spectres: Spectres are the primary enemy of OFF. They are hostile towards entities who are not also spectres, and terrorize the residents of each Zone. They come in many shapes and sizes, although they share similarities in their appearances. One of The Batter's main objectives is to eradicate the spectres from each Zone. It is implied by The Judge that The Queen is the only one who has control over the spectres. Japhet, at one point, also insists that he can control them, although he is shown to fail. The Judge also asserts that Japhet cannot control them, despite Japhet's claims. Not only can the Queen control the Spectres, but according to a book in the library, she may even have the ability to create them and may also be the one sending out the Spectres to destroy the land that she created, however, the book ends by saying that "those rumors are nothing but speculations". A piece of evidence that supports this is the fact that Japhet (possessing Valerie's body) states that "they are my arms, sent to me by the Queen to restore justice to this zone".
- Secretaries: Secretaries are a type of enemy that appear through random encounters in Purified Zones. The Secretaries also get more powerful in each Zone. In order to reach a Purified Zone, the player must first purify the Guardian of the Zone then later return to it from The Nothingness.
- Zones: Zones are various areas that exist within the world of the OFF game. Five of them exist: Zone 0, Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3, The Room. As revealed during game-play, the residents of each Zone exchange goods with other Zones and express some awareness of what is happening in other ones, although news apparently takes some amount of time to go through. Each Zone has a Guardian who administers things within it. Should the Guardian pass away, such as what happens after death in battle to The Batter and The Player, the Zone reverts to a skeleton-like blank state (referred to by The Judge as "pristine nothingness").
- The Nothingness: The Nothingness serves as the main hub of the game, as the Batter can access any Zone and the Room through it. The green areas appear to be an aerial view of the zones and the Room. It can be entered through using red save boxes. It is also an area outside of space where one travels at the speed of light to move within it.
- Competences: Competences are OFF's equivalent to special attacks, spells, etcetera, that are typically found in other RPGs. They vary significantly in terms of power depending on the particular character and situation. Characters' Competences tend to share a common naming theme.
Verse Scaling
All of the fodder enemies scale above the Giant Elsen due to Elsens being among the weakest in the verse, Pre-Zone 3 The Batter and people comparable to him scale to the Zone Guardians who can create their worlds through drawing the infinite energy of the sun, the zone guardians worlds are described as islets. For a Post-Zone 3 Batter anyone who fights him should by extension scale to The Queen who created the world, which contains a sun.
Calculations
- Elsen stops a train: Scales to all the Burnt, Spectres, & Secretaries. (9-A, 0.0070982791587 tons)
- The size of a giant Elsen: General size calc making them a building in height, scales to everyone as regular Elsen cannot defeat Spectres.
- Enoch’s Large Size & Movement Speed: Calc purely for Enoch. (Class M, 4,499,723.8972381564963 kg. 7-A, 85.92304015296366515 megatons)
