Elsen

From The Codex
"Mature Content"
This character or verse has mature themes and concepts, thus those of young age are ill-advised to look through these.
The phantoms are gone… The color is gone… Everything is gone… I am now forever safe.
~ Lone surviving Elsen in purified zone 2

Background

Elsen make up the most population of the Zones. They are the first populace encountered in the game, and they are the general neutral party that make up most of the population of the world of OFF. The entities generally dress in very sterile, formal attire, which seems to be related to their jobs. They have limited awareness about both themselves and their environments. However, their attitudes and actions vary depending on where they are, such as with Elsen in The Room actively assisting The Batter and The Player. They are encountered in every Zone with the exception of Zone 0.

Powers and Techniques

Human Achievements (Zone 1 Elsen are naturally skilled workers who seem to be good at their job), Statistics Amplification & Transformation (When Elsen are highly stressed or are ailing in health, they may become Burnt. A Burnt Elsen will literally lose their head, which is replaced with a fountain of a liquid substance (interpretations vary as to whether this is blood, some kind of fluid-based darkness, etcetera) from their neck. When an inhabitant transforms into a burnt, it apparently gets much stronger to the point of even being able to fight off specters. This is displayed in Zone 3, when three inhabitants catch three specters in a sugar storage room and transform into Burnt out of fear that the specters would take their sugar. Those three easily kill the specters before turning on the Batter. There are varying degrees of Burnt Elsen), the Large Elsen have: Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Large Size (Type 1; Reaches nearly 36 meters tall).

Limited Resistance to Nothingness Manipulation, Conceptual Manipulation, Linguistic Manipulation, Information Manipulation, Text Manipulation, & Purification (A single Elsen was able to survive Batter’s purification, which upon purifying zones through killing the Zone Guardian, it erases them to an extent that the names for areas get re-named “???”, along with books, and posters becoming unreadable. It is even noted that the color and everything is gone. Though it is noted by Mortis that he’ll eventually be gone too)
Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Enhanced Senses (Can still attack enemies while under the blinded status effect), Non-Standard Interaction (Metaphysical Interaction; Can harm and kill Spectres. Abstract Interaction; Can imbue their attacks with abstract ideas, can use their own words as attacks, such as Cryptic Burnt’s “HELP”), Healing (With “Aspirating Suzerain”, induces the heal effect), Status Effect Inducement, Poison Manipulation & Empathic Manipulation (With “Inhuman Decadence”, inflicts the furious and poison status effect), Power Nullification (With “Murmur of the Flies”, inflicts the mute status effect)

Notable Techniques

  • Burnt: When Elsen are highly stressed or are ailing in health, they may become Burnt. There are varying degrees of Burnt Elsen.

Regular Burnt

  • Regular attack: Deals low damage.
  • Swing: Deals low damage.

Valzong-burnt

  • Murmur of the Flies: An attack that inflicts the mute status effect, disabling all of an enemy's special attacks.

Calvary-burnt

  • Inhuman Decadence: An attack that inflicts the furious status effect, enraging the enemy into abandoning all strategy and relentlessly focusing on normal physical attacks. It also inflicts the poison status effect, continuously dealing them damage that ignores their armor and durability.

Critic-burnt

  • ? ? ?: Inflicts the burnt Elsen to scream "HELP", "???" is also, a skill de-buff. This is never explicitly stated, and can only be discovered upon viewing this enemy's stats in RPGMaker.

Pastel-burnt

  • Inhuman Decadence: An attack that inflicts the furious status effect, enraging the enemy into abandoning all strategy and relentlessly focusing on normal physical attacks. It also inflicts the poison status effect, continuously dealing them damage that ignores their armor and durability.
  • Aspirating Suzerain: Heals themself and their allies.

Other

Standard Tactics: Elsen have never really shown to fight and are often cowardly. |Burnt Elsen will use different competences or attacks as he sees fit.

Weaknesses: Regular human weaknesses, will lose their sanity if not fed sugar, will start eating each other if there’s no meat, will be unable to walk if there’s no metal, will go on infinitely if there’s no plastic, and is incapable of breathing without smoke. | As burnt’s the Elsen have completely lost their sanity, attacking whoever no matter the reason, with some of them being seemingly incapable of processing reality.

Note

  • A lot of OFF’s explanations and concepts are very limited and require many different interpretations, thus making it difficult to completely ascertain what certain elements mean, thus using what one can piece together in game along with Mortis’ statements, we have supplied the following profile.

Battle Records

1-2-0

  • Spectres (OFF) - Fight
    • Conditions: The Elsen became burnt and fought in a of 3.
    • Location: Zone 3
