Background

Cain, also spelt Kain, was a flirtatious, carefree man who had been taken into the Strider training program at a young age. While in the program, Cain became the best friend and older-brother figure of a young Strider Hiryu, along with the love interest of a female Strider named Sheena. Alongside his peers, Cain was elevated to A Rank Strider, and then reached the highest rank of Special A.

Unlike most attributes displayed by the Striders, Cain is incredibly emotionally-guided and aloof, which often frustrates those around him. He often flirts with any woman around him and doesn’t listen to orders he’s given, which is secretly a front he puts on to conceal how deadly he truly is.

During Hiryu’s mysterious disappearance, Cain held onto hope that he was still alive somewhere. Nonetheless, he stayed in the Strider program and went on a mission alongside Sheena. However, when he ran into a little girl who he believed to have been killed in the warfare, he was caught off guard and tranquilized.

The enemy forces working for the ZAIN Project kidnapped Cain and discovered his identity, which was forbidden for a Strider. Because of this, Hiryu was found, taken out of retirement, and tasked with killing Cain. Begrudgingly, Hiryu took the mission. Unknown, however, Cain had been implanted with a chip in his neck that made him a slave to the ZAIN Project.

When Hiryu and Sheena discovered Cain, they were shocked to find him start viciously and remorselessly attacking them; brutally injuring Sheena. Cain and Hiryu fought equally for a while, before Sheena used the last of her strength to hold Cain off. Mercilessly, Cain murdered Sheena, with Hiryu using his opening to target the chip in his neck.

Cain fell unconscious, only to awake a short time later back in his regular state. Horrified that he had been forced to kill the woman he loved, Cain sought death, but was brought out of the mindset by Hiryu, who understood his pain. The two turned their anger to the ZAIN Project, and sought to destroy it.

Cain and Hiryu infiltrated several labs and brought destruction to all of them, ending the ZAIN Project efficiently. Cain and Hiryu finally targeted the man behind it all, Matic, who heavily wounded Cain and took him out of the fight. Thankfully, Hiryu was able to defeat Matic, and avenge Sheena for them both.

Weaknesses: Cain is overconfident and overly trusting of those he views as innocent, such as when he let his guard down for a girl he believed to be harmless, and got tranquilized for it. He has been mind controlled before, and was incapable of fighting it.
