Background

Minamoto Kou currently attends Kamome Gakuen's middle school division as a third-year. He is the younger brother of Minamoto Teru and has a little sister named Minamoto Tiara. As a young child and descendant of the Minamoto clan, he aims to become an exorcist as strong as his older brother. However, due to his lack of skill to the point of being burned by the rateijou, he is unable to perform any high-level exorcism. But due to some unintended events, he decided to lessen his yearning to exorcise. However, when it comes to protecting others, he is willing to use his force or his strength.

At home, he deals with all the housekeeping and cooking for his other two siblings. He has high aptitude in cooking and sometimes cleans after Teru's disasters. However, he can't match up to his older's brother intellect as seen by his studying for the final exams. He is perceived as a caring and high-spirited individual, but when it comes to meeting someone new, he often has a standoffish or violent approach if that person has ulterior intentions.

Alignment: Neutral Good (Kou is a character that wants what is best for his friends. He usually follows the rules if he has to but he has no issues breaking them if he thinks it is what's for the best. This is best seen when Teru tells Kou to kill Hanako on multiple occasions and even told him that every supernatural was evil. Kou not only goes against this, but sides with Hanako for the most part. Later on in the series, after every supernatural gets locked up in their boundaries, Kou and Nene both were told that they could investigate how to get them back. However, they were instructed to not go in the Red House, which is known to kill anyone that goes inside of it. They go into the house anyway in order to find clues on where Hanako and Mitsuba are. This leads to them almost being killed and having the Red House burn down completely and unintentionally leaving a 4 year-old Tsukasa in there. Where ever Kou and Nene go, chaos usually follows; even if it's not always on purpose).

His powers are able to erase abstract beings from existence, thus, getting rid of that Supernatural's rumors), Conceptual Manipulation and Electricity Manipulation (Kou is able to turn his spiritual energy into lightning based attacks to attack his opponets. His lightning is able to affect supernaturals, which are absract beings made of rumors. This is best seen when Teru was able to negated multiple supernatrual's abilities by just stabbing them with his sword. Is able to consistantly fight while having his insides heavily damaged by characters that scale massively above him. This can be best seen when he was attacked by the 6th Wonder and didn't die from the impact. Kou was also able to continue to fight while having a major concussion delt by Yugi Tsukasa.) Kou was able to harm Hanako momentarily with his spiritual lightning despite Hanako being infinitly stronger than Kou), Acausality and Reality Sepration Negation (Every Exorcist is able to interact and kill characters with acausality. Every supernatural can exist outside of reality and time by being able to exist in a boundary rift. Every Exorcist is capible of stopping the regeneration of a supernatrual. Each supernatural has high-godly regeneration from being able to regenerate after the destruction of Shijima Mei's Boundary. Supernatrual do not age and can live forever. Supernatruals can regenerate from having sword wounds, being cut in half, and getting their arms cut off. Supernaturals live on the border between life and death, thus, they can not come to life nor can they die. Supernatruals can live with huge holes in their chests or having their bodies melt. Many supernatruals are the spirits of the dead. Most supernatruals rely on rumors in order to exist and regenerate back into existance), Holy Manipulation (Kou's spirit energy is extremely effective against evil spirits and uses his powers to exorcise supernatruals and other apperitions. Hanako states that the Minamoto clan used their powers to rid the world of the existance of evil Yokai many years ago), Limited Sealing (Can momentarily seal an opponet in a lightning cage for about 10 seconds by himself. The opponet isn't able to use their abilities and is unable to escape), Null Existence Negation (Kou is able to interact with beings that have no rumors. Most supernaturals need rumors in order to exist. Supernaturals that don't have rumors will fade from existance entirely. Most supernaturals in boundaries don't have rumors to them)

Resistance to Power Nullification (Can use his powers in a School Wonder's Boundary. In a School Wonder's Boundary, your powers are completely negated and unusable unless the Wonder gives you permission to use your abilities. However, Kou was able to use his abilities in the 3rd Wonder's Boundary without permission), Time Manipulation (It was explained that characters who are exorcists have a resistance to supernatrual abilities. This can be best seen when Kou wasn't turned into an old person while getting touched by the first Wonder, Mirai, who can turn foward time. She was only able to age him about 3 years), Law Manipulation and Reality Warping (Was unaffected by the 3rd Wonder's Boundary, which has passive law manipulation and reality warping. Kou was also one of the only students to not be affected by Shijima Mei's boundary. Shijima Mei turned most the supernatruals in the school into normal people and was able to freely manipulate reality. Kou and Nene were not affected by this however), Observation and Conceptual Manipulation (Kou lacks a rumor, like most students that attend the school. Rumors make things come into existance and help shape the world), Possession (Anyone with a high amount of spiritual energy can knock a spirit outside of someone or prevent themselves from getting possessed), Plot Manipulation and Perspective Manipulation (Was one of the only characters to not be affected by Shijima Mei taking control of the plot of the story.), Fear Manipulation, Mind Manipulation, and Perception Manipulation (Kou was unaffected by the Hell of Mirrors. The boundary passively creates illusions of what you're most afraid of and uses them to terrorize the person. Even while the boundary was amplified and at full power, Kou was unaffected by said fear manipulation and illusions), Transmutation (Kou was able to fight against the 2nd Wonder, Yako, for an extended period of time without instantly being turned into a doll. Yako can use her scissors in order to turn people into dolls, mannequins, or plushies upon touching or cutting people. While Kou did eventually turn into a doll at the end of the fight, it took dozens of hits in order to turn him into one), Nothingness Manipulation, Corrosion Inducement, Biological Manipulation, and Death Manipulation (Was able to be fine in the 6th Wonder's Boundary while it was erasing itself. It created multiple voids that spread over the ground and sky. If a person walked near a void, they would start to decay and get absorbed into the void. Kou was fine walking near multiple voids. Kou was fine being in the 6th Wonder's Boundary, which passively kills anything in it or anything that comes near Shinigami. This death manipulation is able to affect beings that are already dead and beings that don't exist. Shinigami also states that he can't touch anything thats alive because it'll instantly kill them. Shinigami directly punches Kou and he doesn't corrode away)

Kou is able to use his Raiteijou to turn his spirit energy into lightning that can effectively counter supernaturals, though it has been mentioned that he has no idea how to use the spirit staff’s power consequently leading to him being electrocuted every time he uses it.

Notable Techniques

Lightning Cage

Kou is able to create a lightning cage around his opponent in order to restrict their powers and movement. If an enemy touches the lightning, they will get erased from existence. However, Kou can only keep this cage up for about 10 seconds on his own.

Other

Standard Tactics: Kou will try to show off and brag about his weapon after he lands a hit with it. Kou likes to strike first without thinking or making a plan. He usually tries to overpower his opponet to get them to stop attacking.

Weaknesses: Kou isn't trained in combat and is extremely inexperienced when it comes to using is weapon. If he's not careful, he will hurt himself while using it. Is too nice for his own good so he won't normally kill anyone

He is skilled at cooking and does all the housework at home.
Kou's Japanese voice actor, Chiba Shoya, and Mitsuba's Japanese voice actor, Kobayashi Daiki, are good friends, just like the characters they voice.
The kanji on Kou's earring means "traffic" (交通, kōtsū), hence the nickname Mitsuba gave him, and the first kanji of the word (交, kō) is homophonous with Kou's first name (光, kō).
His last name was originally "Adashino" in the pilot.
His last name, Minamoto, comes directly before Mitsuba in alphabetical order (as exemplified by the class roster in the Picture Perfect Arc) and in the first term of junior high.
He gets on guard after hearing lightning.
In the Three Clock Keepers Arc, Kou is the only one that changed clothes after Mirai used her powers to increase his age.
