Omigosh! Is... Isn't that a treasure map?! You HAVE to tell me where you got that!
~ Goombella
Never, ever give up! That's the most important thing I've learned from you, Mario.
~ Goombella

Background

Goombella is a very smart and sassy, but friendly, female Goomba from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. A second-year co-ed student studying archaeology at the University of Goom, she is the first companion to join Mario on his quest. She provides tattle information to Mario about his location or the character who stands in front of him all throughout the game. She wears a helmet with a light and a matching shirt with a red scarf, and also has a large, blond ponytail. Unlike most Goombas, she is light pink in color. Goombella's name might be a portmanteau between "Goomba" and the female name "Bella", short for "Isabella". It may also be a reference to portabella mushrooms. Also, "bella" is an existing adjective in Spanish and Italian, meaning "beautiful" and "good appealing", respectively.

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Genius Intelligence, Acrobatics (Can preforms flips during their attacks), Fighter's Intuition (Defeated the Glitz Pit champion Rawk Hawk in a fight), Accelerated Development (Goombella became powerful enough to surpass herself when she had the Crystal Stars, which were used to weaken the Shadow Queen. In which no character was able to deal any damage to her. As shown in the Bonetail battle, Goombella no longer needs them to harm someone who's above The Shadow Queen. Bonetail was stated by Goombella to be stronger than the Shadow Queen. And added with his better stats, it makes a lot of sense. Prior to that, Mario and co. couldn't harm the Armored Harriers at all, even losing the battle. Up until Mini-Yoshi came, they were able to defeat them, twice. The cast was then able to defeat the rest of the Glitz Pit fighters, each one being ranked higher than the other. They were able to defeat Bowser, who was able to one-shot Rawk Hawk, a previous boss. Shadow Peach [the Shadow Queen's weaker form], one-shots Grodus, another previous boss. Mario and co. also survives that exact attack), Information Analysis (With Tattle, Goombella can use her book to gather information on someone. This ranges from their history, health, and attacks), Social Influencing (By either using Appeal or Stylish Moves, Goombella can cheer up an entire audience. Resistance to Heat (All partners can run near fire), Cold (All partners are unaffected by snowy areas and space), Transmutation (All partners seem to be unaffected by Doopliss' ability to turn people into pigs), Cosmic Radiations (Can stay in space just fine), Sleep Manipulation (All partners can stare at a Sleepy Sheep, which makes you fall asleep from just looking at it), Absorption & Soul Manipulation ( All partners resists the Shadow Queen's hands, which she can use to absorb the victims and their souls), Conceptual Manipulation/Paint Manipulation. "If you're familiar with things like Popeye and some of the old comic characters, you would oftentimes see this cast of characters that takes on different roles depending on the comic or cartoon," Miyamoto said. "They might be businessman in one [cartoon] or a pirate in another. Depending on the story that was being told, they would change roles. So, to a certain degree, I look at our characters in a similar way and feel that they can take on different roles in different games."
