Background
Very Gnawty, also named Gnawty and Gnawty Beaver, is a giant Gnawty who appears in Donkey Kong Country as the first boss. It is fought at the end of Kongo Jungle in Very Gnawty's Lair. Its name is a pun on the phrase "very naughty," substituting the latter word with Gnawty.
In its boss battle, Very Gnawty repeatedly hops across the arena. If Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong get hit by Very Gnawty, they get injured. The Kongs can jump on Very Gnawty to attack it. After each hit, Very Gnawty moves around faster. After five hits, Very Gnawty pants and collapses onto the ground in defeat.
In the Game Boy Advance version, when Very Gnawty is hit, it jumps to the other side of the arena before continuing to hop around. Additionally, after defeating Really Gnawty, the Kongs can find Very Gnawty in DK's Tree House. When they enter DK's Tree House, Very Gnawty turns around and sees the Kongs, then pants, and bounces out the entrance. This event only occurs once per game file.
Really Gnawty is a giant Gnawty and the fourth boss of Donkey Kong Country, and it is fought at the end of Gorilla Glacier in Really Gnawty Rampage. Its name is a pun on "really naughty", similar to Very Gnawty's name being a pun on "very naughty". In a Nintendo Magazine System (UK) issue, Really Gnawty was named Gnawty Beaver like Very Gnawty, who was described as being his "fallen comrade."
Although Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong only need to jump on Really Gnawty five times to defeat it (just like Very Gnawty), this beaver boss is more difficult than the previous one. Not only does it horizontally jump even faster and farther than Very Gnawty (and it gets even faster and farther with each hit as well), it can also jump extremely high vertically. Once it gets hit, it makes a surprised expression. Then, it laughs and jumps high in the air, attempting to crush the Kongs from above, and it adds another high jump for each additional hit.
In the Game Boy Advance remake, Really Gnawty is recolored slate gray and is larger than in the original game. In the remake, when it is jumped on, instead of jumping at the Kongs, Really Gnawty jumps to the other side of the arena once, causing stalactites to fall to the ground.
