Background

The First Spinjitzu Master was the creator of the landmass of Ninjago, the inventor of Spinjitzu and the Golden Weapons, and a father. Long before time had a name, The First Spinjitzu Master was born in a seperate realm - the Realm of Oni and Dragons. Born as a hybrid of both Oni and Dragons, he was immediately sought after by both sides to end the everlasting fued between the two species. The Dragons could create. The Oni could destroy. But, as a child from both worlds, The First Spinjitzu Master understood that you could not have one without the other.

Neither Oni nor Dragon agreed to unite and end the war, and only fought harder over which side the child would choose, as his decision would sway the war in the favour of the race he chose. When he realised he could not end the war between the two races, he created a mysterious artefact known as the Realm Crystal, an item that allowed him to traverse the 16 realms, and sought a new home.

He travelled to many realms, but eventually found a world engulfed in chaos. An Endless Sea was being terrorised by a sea serpent who ruled over the water and the wind - Wojira. With the islanders and Merlopians supporting him, The First Spinjitzu Master battled Wojira, but found himself overwhelmed, the sea serpent was too powerful for even their combined efforts. The raw power of the sea serpent required a stronger force to battle them - the sea itself. Nyad, the first Elemental Master of Water, merged with the sea, sacrifing her physical body to defeat Wojira.

With the sea serpent defeated and the sea growing still, the First Spinjitzu Master formed four Elemental Weapons - The Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu, and used them to create a new continent on the world, now named Ninjago. The new land was bathed in light, but darkness needed to exist to balance the force of light. And so, the embodiment of darkness was born, a monstrous foe known simply as The Overlord. The Overlord challenged the First Spinjitzu Master to a battle for the fate of the world.

The two forces of light and dark engaged in a battle that could have been endless. Neither side gained the upper hand and the battle was in perfect balance. To counteract the balance, The Overlord created a race of indestructible warriors known as the Stone Army, who grew to nearly overwhelm the First Spinjitzu Master. In order to save the world from the evil grip of darkness, the First Spinjitzu Master cleaved the land of Ninjago into two, sealing the Stone Army in a tomb deep underground, destroying the Overlord's physical body and trapping them on an island that would from then on be known as the Island of Darkness. Balance was restored.

With the Overlord stalemated and the realm at peace, The First Spinjitzu Master gifted Elemental Powers to a select few people. These people would guard the Elemental Powers and come to be known as the first generation of Elemental Masters.

Now growing old and feeling that his time in the mortal realm was nearing its end, The First Spinjitzu Master fathered two sons. The older brother embodied the forces of Destruction and the power of the Oni, Garmadon. The younger brother embodied the forces of Creation and the Dragon, Wu. He taught them his own martial art of Spinjitzu, and tasked them with guarding the four Golden Weapons, fearing what may happen if someone misued their powers.

In the First Spinjitzu Master's final moments in Ninjago, he sealed himself in a tomb underneath the Endless Sea and lied near a waterfall, peacefully dying with the Realm Crystal in hand and departing the mortal world for good.

Millennia later, Lloyd Garmadon was crushed and killed under falling rubble after a defeat of the Oni, and was brought to a Grassland, where he met the First Spinjitzu Master for the first time, who offered him a choice: Join him and know everlasting peace and happiness, or return to Ninjago and continue his duties as the Green Ninja. Lloyd chose the latter option, and The First Spinjitzu Master sent him back to Ninjago, reviving him with a petal and allowing him to live to maintain the balance another day.
