Summary

The Blobfish refers to any species of fish within the Psychrolutidae family. They typically live in the deep waters off the coast of southeastern Australia and Tasmania. It lives in New Zealand as well. The common depiction of the blobfish is due to their tendency to decompress at the surface when caught as bycatch, causing severe tissue damage in the process. Underwater, blobfish look like the picture.
