Sauron, created as Mairon, is the main antagonist of The Lord of the Rings, and a minor antagonist present in The Hobbit and The Silmarillion.

He uses incredibly dark power and commits horrible deeds, and so although he does not seek aimless chaos, he is still enacting evil deeds for selfish reasons), Chaotic Neutral following Morgoth's defeat (In fear of the wrath of the Valar, Sauron repented his evil deeds. He took on a fair form alongside this, and although he was unwilling to face judgement for his actions in Valinor, seeing it as humiliation, he still repented for what he did and abandoned his evil conquest of the world.
