We must all live in the real world… and sometimes that world can be pretty grim. But it is the Dream… the hope… that makes the reality worth living. In the early 1940s, I made a personal pledge to uphold the Dream… And as long as the Dream remains even partially unfulfilled, I cannot abandon it!
~ Captain America in Captain America Volume 1 Issue 250

Background

First appearing in Captain America Comics Issue 1, Steven Rogers AKA Captain America is an immensely popular Superhero and a flag-ship of Marvel Comics.

Steve was raised by Irish Immigrant parents during the Great Depression and suffered from multiple illnesses throughout his childhood. When his father lost his job he began to excessively drink alcohol leading him to become physically abusive towards his wife; often hitting her in front of Steve. However after his father's death Steve and his mother were forced to work harder to put food on the table. Many years later she died as well leaving Steve the message to always be strong and persevere through life's hardships. "A strong heart will take you further than any physical strength. A strong heart means you'll never quit..."

He was bullied throughout his childhood for his sickly and frail appearance, however despite this he had a strong sense of justice. One day when wanting to escape from his every day life, he decided to go to a theatre. There he was exposed to a film reel that showed the atrocities of Nazi Germany. Inspired by this, Steve wanted to join the army to fight for justice and protect America from the Nazi threat. However because of his frailty he was rejected, however he volunteered for an experimental procedure called "Project Rebirth". After drinking the Serum and being bombarded by Vita-Rays his body and mind were enhanced to their peak condition allowing him to become the perfect Super Soldier. However the creator of this serum was immediately killed afterwards essentially stopping the mass production of these Super Soldiers.

Despite this after being put through some intense physical and tactical training program for three months, Steve finally fought on the front-lines using the identity of Captain America. For a vast majority of the war Captain America battled against the Red Skull alongside other soldiers and even other superhumans such as Namor and the original Human Torch. Alongside him was his sidekick Bucky who was his closest friend. However in 1945, after an explosion Steve and Bucky were sent into the icy waters of the English channel freezing him in suspended animation. Decades later, Steve awoke in the modern day and soon became the leader of the Avengers. Proving that even in the modern day that Captain America can inspire the masses to do good and act as a Symbol of Justice and Hope.

Status: Has been both Deceased and Alive (Steve has been killed numerous times. The first time was when he and the rest of the Avengers were temporarily killed by a villain named Michael Korvac, however they were all revived by the end of the issue.[1] Next was during the Infinity Gauntlet event where just like before every other of Earth's Mightiest Heroes are murdered by Thanos, Steve is the last hero standing and continues to fight against the Mad Titan despite the odds. This gained Thanos' respect however it didn't save his life as he had his neck snapped from one slap to the head.[2] Once again he is revived after this event. Most recently during the A.X.E: Judgement Day where he was incinerated by the Progenitor; However he is revived soon after by The Five.[3]) However currently he is currently Alive.

Alignment: Has been both Lawful Good and Neutral Good (Captain America is seen as one of the greatest superheroes on Earth. He is incredibly brave and kind, always willing to protect the innocent despite the risk to his own life and will always try to see the good in people. Even before getting the Serum he was dedicated to the idea of protecting the weak and dispensing justice on those that deserve it. Initially in World War II, Steve was extremely loyal to the ideals of America and was always willing to follow the orders of the government. However during the years after his unfreezing, Steve has clashed with the American Government numerous times and is willing to disobey orders if he believes that they are immoral. This applies to laws as well as seen when he refused to comply with the Superhuman Registration Act)

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: City District level (He has fought evenly against Wolverine numerous times [4] even being able to crush the tendons in his arm[5] who was able to survive being punched from New York to Georgia in around a minute. Physically dominated Deadpool in their fight who survived a massive explosion and being sent flying from Arizona to New Mexico in an extremely short time-frame), Far Higher with his shield (Allows him to battle against foes that are much stronger than him. Smashed Extremis Iron Man's helmet with a few strikes.[6] that was previously able to survive punches from Namor who should scale to Grey Hulk destroying a massive asteroid. Decapitated a non-adamantium Ultron[7]. After it was destroyed in Fear Itself, The shield was enhanced with Uru-infused enchantments that made it stronger and tougher)

Durability: City District level (Traded blows with Wolverine who should scale to his own durability. Survived the Quinjet exploding. Tanked a powerful blast that created a massive crater while he may have used his shield to block this attack, it's clear from his tattered clothes that he had to have at least been hit by some of the blast.) Far Higher with his shield (Allows Steve to tank attacks that would reasonably kill him. Tanked a diving blow from Hyperion (It should be noted that Hyperion was mind controlled at the time so to make him bloodlusted so it's clear he was not holding back)[8] and even endured a blast from Thor who was using shown to being using all of his power. Upgraded with Uru-infused enchantments that made it stronger and tougher)

Striking Strength: City District Class, Far Higher when bashing or throwing his shield

Lifting Strength: Class 25 (Is comparable to Black Panther who is able to casually stop the charge of an elephant and a rhino. Wrestled with D-Man[9] who was able to lift these massive weights.)

Travel Speed: Transonic (Claimed during World War II that he was able to run a mile in just over a minute. Was able to move Faster than Eyesight. Should be as fast as Black Panther who was able to outrun an explosion.)

Combat Speed: Faster Than Light (Can tag Spider-Man who even comments that he is fast; It should be noted that at the time that Spider-Man was amped by "The Other" at the time.[10] Was able to also tag Deadpool who is able to dodge Cyclops' Optic Blast.) Faster Than Light by throwing his shield (Can tag Wolverine.[11])

Reaction Speed: Faster Than Light (Blocked Cyclops' Optic Blast from a close distance[12] [13], These Optic Blasts have been stated numerous times to be lightspeed which would require him to move this fast. He has consistently dodged[14] and blocked [15] Iron Man's repulsor blasts even dodging with his back turned [16] the repulsor blasts have been similarly stated to be lightspeed. Should be comparable to Baron Zemo who was able to block Vision's eye beams that channel limited amounts of solar energy which would mean that the eye beams are lightspeed.)

Stamina: Superhuman (Has a near-superhuman willpower allowing him to keep fighting even when he is extremely injured. Thanks to the Serum he can fight for hours without being tired.)

Range: Standard Melee Range, Several Hundred Meters by throwing his shield

Intelligence: Genius (The Super Soldier Serum not only enhanced his strength but also his brain. Casually hacked into an advanced computer system.[17] According to Beast, Steve is able to master any weapon in seconds. He is an incredibly talented strategist and usually takes this role whenever he is on a team. Has mastered every single martial art known to man)

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Longevity (The Super Soldier Serum makes his ageing much slower), Enhanced Senses (Has enhanced hearing), Precognition (Type 2; His fighting skills are so well honed that they act like a sixth sense), Genius Intelligence, Martial Arts (Has mastered every martial art known to man), Pressure Points (Incapacitated Professor Hulk using Pressure Points), Acrobatics (Is extremely agile[18]), Weapon Usage (According to Beast, Steve is able to master any weapon in seconds) and Vehicular Usage (He is proficient at motorbikes and even skateboards[19]), Sheer Will (Like characters such as Spider-Man and The Thing; His Willpower is beyond a normal human and could even be considered a Superpower. Escaped a Cosmic Cube with sheer willpower.[20]) Hacking (Casually hacked into an advanced computer system.[21]), Regeneration (Mid-Low;Healed from a bullet wound in a short amount of time. Mid overtime; Recovered from being shot in the head even after he was pronounced dead.), Social Influencing (Steve is a highly respected superhero who is looked up to by not only normal people but also other superheroes, He's often known to inspire others to do good. Members of the army are so loyal to Captain America that they are willing to ignore orders from the president.).
Resistance to Poison Manipulation (The Serum was described as having the potential to wipe out disease.[22] Famously Steve is unable to get drunk because of his increased metabolism.), Mind Manipulation (Forced Red Skull out of his mind), Empathic Manipulation (Resisted Hatemonger's beam. Enchantress' Magic had no effect on him.[23]), Fire Manipulation (Was completely uneffected by flames.)

Equipment

  • Captain America's Shield: Captain America's primary and most iconic weapon. Composed of a unique Vibranium and Proto-Adamantium steel alloy that has never been duplicated, It is truly one of the most durable things in the entire Marvel Universe. It has defended Steve against not only bullets, lasers and electric attacks but also from strikes from heavy hitters such as Hulk and Thor going all out. This is because the Vibranium absorbs most of the Kinetic-Energy of an attack which is why he doesn't get sent flying backwards from a powerful attack. It is highly aerodynamic which allows Steve to throw it at his foes with immense accuracy; Even iconically being able to catch it in his own hands.
  • Captain America's Uniform: Made from woven chain armour of industrial strength, it is highly durable and is completely bulletproof. It also completely fire retardant. While it is somewhat resistant to electrical attacks it can still be negated for example when he is shocked by powerful electrokinesis such as[24] Electro[25]. Contains a voice-operated, wireless communicator in his left ear along with an imbued Universal Translator.
  • Utility Belt: Contains these items;
    • First Aid Kit including antiseptic gel coated band aids, bone and muscle pain reliever spray cans and antidotes for some toxins.
    • Military Cables.
    • Smoke Grenades.
    • Lock Picks.
    • Grenades.

Optional Equipment

Energy Shield: There has been multiple upgrades of this Energy Shield throughout the years. The most recent used Zero-Point Energy. Allowing for Steve to ricochet this shield off surfaces to hit targets and would dissipate afterwards this was so his opponents couldn't grab it afterwards. Much like his main shield it is able to redirect Kinetic-Energy.

Mjolnir: Throughout his career Captain America has been shown numerous times to be worthy of lifting Mjolnir. Forged in the heart of a dying star and composed of the mystical ore called Uru, Mjolnir can grant its wielder a long list of abilities most famously being flight and the ability to control the weather.

Other

Standard Tactics Mainly goes on the defensive during fights; Using his shields to block attacks from his foes. He often uses his physical superiority, tactical genius and skills to quickly overpower his foes. With his shield he famously throws his shield hard enough to ricochet off surfaces and into his foes. Steve does not kill if it is unnecessary.

Weaknesses: Steve does not kill if it is unnecessary. While his shield may be extremely durable it is far from being fully indestructible. It has been destroyed on multiple occasions by different characters such as Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet[26], Doctor Doom when he absorbed the powers of the Beyonder[27], Molecule Man with his powers[28] and finally Cul Borson otherwise known as The Serpent.[29] This shows that while the shield can tank hits from Heralds, that is it's limit as attacks from "Skyfather" tier characters or characters comparable to the Beyonder can easily destroy the shield. It should be noted that while the shield is usually potrayed as invincible it has been stated that it can be heavily effected by having its molecules manipulated.
