Nightmare Fredbear & Nightmare: This tag-team duo are invisible to the cameras and can only be seen when they reach your doorways (Fredbear takes left, Nightmare takes right), and even then only their eyes are visible. Close the doors on their faces to send them back into the darkness!
~ Ultimate Custom Night Description
You will not be spared. You will not be saved
The shadows fear me
I am your wickedness... made of flesh
I am here to claim... what is left of you.
I will vomit you back... to relieve your horror.

Background

Nightmare is a nightmare animatronic who first debuts in Five Nights at Freddy's 4 as the game's final antagonist. He is a recolored and slightly translucent version of Nightmare Fredbear.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Nightmare Freddy’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Physical Appearance

Nightmare's appearance is almost identical to Nightmare Fredbear's appearance; the only drastic differences are that the costume color is changed to black, and the bow-tie and top hat are changed from purple to yellow. If images featuring Nightmare were brightened, it would also reveal that Nightmare's costume is actually translucent, as if his endoskeleton is cloaked in a shadow. As such, nearly all of his endoskeleton can be seen by brightening images of him. The only exception is around his mouth, which appears to have an existing material ripped away from it.

Personality

Nightmare is a cruel, twisted animatronic who is sadistic in nature. This is apparent in Ultimate Custom Night, where he informs the player of their death in a rather sadistic manner. He also appears to enjoy mocking his victims upon getting the chance to do so. He speaks using a deep, monstrous voice, befitting his name.

Codex Statistics

Tier: 9-B

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: Wall level (Potency) (Can easily kill William Afton. Should be comparable to the other animatronics, who can crush skulls, survive collapsing buildings, and are unharmed by a car crash that broke through a billboard. Can one-shot the security guard. They should scale to their novel counterparts due to being just as canon to the games, and are noted as alternate continuities. The animatronics in the novels can tear off bathroom doors, destroy other animatronics their size, break open hinged doors, casually snap people's necks, break open a ceiling, break through a slide, and punch holes through people)

Lifting Strength: Superhuman (In The Silver Eyes, it is stated that the animatronics are capable of lifting and tossing large arcade cabinets as if they were toys. The animatronics can tear apart William Afton)

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Supernatural Protection & Resurrection (Nightmare can be killed by the Death Coin, but come back due to always being revived by The One You Shouldn't Have Killed), Body Control (Animatronics are able to be dismantled, such as Mangle), Enhanced Senses (Can see and move around in the dark), Stealth Mastery (All animatronics are capable of hiding within the cameras, requiring the night guard to use the technology of the building to find them. Can quickly leave out of sight once a room goes dark), Inorganic Physiology (Non-living Object), Self-Sustenance (Respiratory Self-Sustenance, Nutritional Self-Sustenance, & Restful Self-Sustenance), Invisibility (Can turn invisible via cloaking and his Ultimate Custom Night description describe him being invisible to the cameras), Illusion Creation (Standard Illusions; The animatronics at times can make the building change), Passive Technological Manipulation (An animatronic's mere appearance causes the technology to flicker and turn off, all animatronics upon entering a room causes the camera to go static), Teleportation & Body Control (Can teleport his head).

Other

Standard Tactics:

Nightmare essentially has the same mechanics as Nightmare Fredbear, appearing in the closet, on the bed, and by the hallway doors. However, when compared to Nightmare Fredbear, Nightmare is much more aggressive. Nightmare will approach from either the Left Hall or Right Hall. Unlike Nightmare Fredbear, however, when looking at him in the halls, he will always appear right at the door, in the player's face. At random points throughout the night, the player will hear Nightmare laugh loudly, which means that his head will appear either on the Bed (at which point the player must simply shine the Flashlight on him for a brief period of time) or in the Closet (at which point the player simply has to close the door for a brief period of time). Failing to do so in time will result in Nightmare jumpscaring the player with a kill screen. However, Nightmare can occasionally laugh without appearing on the Bed or in the Closet, so the player must listen out for Nightmare's footsteps to tell if Nightmare is actually still in the halls or if he has entered the room.

Working in tandem, Nightmare and Nightmare Fredbear are invisible to the player until they reach the doors, where only their eyes will then be visible. The player must listen for Nightmare's laughter and look out for his eyes on the right door and close it on him. If the player decides to ignore Nightmare's eyes or fails to notice Nightmare, the animatronic will proceed to jumpscare them after they raise the monitor or black out and end the game.

Weaknesses: Is only invisible to cameras.

Note

  • This version of Nightmare is primarily using Ultimate Custom Night as its basis due to being a creation made by Golden Freddy, being noted to be given flesh.
