From The Codex

Background

The deistic[1] god[2] is a supreme being and creator of the universe, an intelligent and rational being who established the natural laws for the universe to function harmoniously. Although this being is personal, he is different from other divine entities in that he does not intervene in human affairs, having given rise to the world. Deists see this god as a perfect, infinite, eternal, immutable and necessary being, a being who has no beginning and no end, who does not change and who necessarily exists. In addition, moral perfection and justice are also attributed to him, and it is believed that he established a system of moral justice in the universe through natural laws.

  1. Deism is a philosophical and theological current that holds the existence of a god who creates the universe but does not intervene in human affairs. This belief is based on reason and natural observation, and rejects divine revelation and traditional religious practices. Deism was popular in Europe and America during the 18th and 19th centuries, and has influenced the thinking of many enlightened thinkers and the formation of some modern religions.
  2. The deistic God is a philosophical concept and not a deity with a specific name.
