Background

Kyojuro Rengoku, commonly simply called Rengoku, is a protagonist of the manga and anime series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. A stoic yet friendly swordsman, Rengoku serves as one of the ten elite Demon Slayers known as the Pillars. In particular, Rengoku is the Flame Pillar, as he specializes in the Flame Breathing technique passed down through the Rengoku family..

Rengoku was raised by his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, who was the former Flame Pillar. Over the years Shinjuro had become disillusioned with Demon Slaying and discouraged his son from becoming one, though Rengoku inevitably rose to the top regardless. In his years as a young adult and accomplished Pillar, Kyojuro was pit up against one of the Twelve Demon Moons, Akaza.

Although the fight was incredibly close, especially with the help of Tanjiro Kamado, Rengoku was delivered a fatal blow, and Akaza fled. Not fearing death, Rengoku gave inspiring and encouraging words to Tanjiro, before seeing his mother in the afterlife and passing away. His dying words served as a beacon of hope for Tanjiro, as he used them to constantly push himself.

Notable Techniques

A Breathing Style that has been directly derived from the original Breathing Style, Sun Breathing. During the beginning of the Demon Slayer Corps, one of Kyojuro Rengoku's ancestors was trained directly by Yoriichi Tsugikuni, and developed Flame Breathing from those teachings. Although Sun and Flame Breathing are both visually indicated by fire, Flame Breathing is distinct in the way that it imitates fire with singular, powerful strikes that burn their foes.

• First Form - Unknowing Fire: The user charges towards their opponent at high speeds and aims to decapitate them in one slash.
• Second Form - Rising Scorching Sun: The user releases an arching sword slash upwards.
• Third Form - Blazing Universe: The user swings their blade downwards in an arc.
• Fourth Form - Blooming Flame Undulation: The user swings their blade in a circular motion that can defend them from incoming attacks or decapitate multiple enemies at once.
• Fifth Form - Flame Tiger: The user performs a series of powerful sword slashes that seemingly takes the form of a flaming tiger.
• Ninth Form - Rengoku: A devastating dashing slash that the user initiates from a high stance, the technique had enough power to carve a deep impression that burnt the ground where it was unleashed.
