Articles About the S.S Dolphin
Pikmin Series S.S Dolphin - S.S Dolphin II

Captain...
Captain Olimar...
Are you OK, Captain Olimar?
He's alive! Oh, what a relief!
Don't worry about me, Captain Olimar. I'm perfectly fine.
OK-ness confirmed. Let's get back on our feet and resume our voyage!
Assuming the ship still flies, that is.
Captain Olimar... You might want to sit down for this.
I have some very bad news.
It's our fuel, you see. The Sparklium.
We went from having lots of it... to none.
Without Sparklium, the only part of the ship that works is the pilot's seat.
I hate to say this, Captain Olimar, but we may have no choice but to sit here and hope that help arrives.
...Unless
Yes... Yes, I think this might be just what we needed!
Captain Olimar! It's faint, but I'm picking up a signal from over there!
Follow me!

~ The S.S Dolphin II when confronting Captian Olimar

Background

The S.S. Dolphin II is Captain Olimar's vessel in Hey! Pikmin. At the start of the game, Olimar is piloting the ship to head back to Hocotate, until he hits an asteroid and plummets to an unknown planet. The ship crashes against the ground, and stays in that state. The cone of the ship has a detachable pod with its own artificial intelligence. This pod guides Olimar throughout his adventure.

After the crash-landing, the ship requires certain amounts of Sparklium to recover its disabled features, and provide Captain Olimar with updates. A list can be found here.

The exploration pod is Olimar's assistant throughout the events of Hey! Pikmin, guiding him all along his adventure. It is the pod at the nose of the S.S. Dolphin II, and it houses the ship's cockpit room and artificial intelligence system. It is able to fly around freely and communicate with Olimar via a loudspeaker, as well as beam him and any Pikmin he's got with him inside, to return to the Pikmin Park. In general, it looks physically similar to the Research Pod in Pikmin 2.

The pod can be seen at the end of each area, serving as the exit. If the area has a secret exit, then the pod can be found in the location of both the normal exit and the secret one. The exploration pod is also present in the Pikmin Park, in some cutscenes at the beginning and the end of the game. At the start of the story, it helps the player learn the mechanics of the game.

General Information

Name: S.S Dolphin II

Origin: Hey! Pikmin

Age: Unknown (The model appears to be rather new, and Olimar even calls the Hocotate Ship old in comparison. The S.S Dolphin II appears to be a direct upgrade to the original S.S Dolphin)

Classification: Delivery Spaceship

Status: Likely Active (Although the S.S Dolphin was sold off at the beginning of Pikmin 2, Olimar notes he will buy back his ship after leaving PNF-404[1])

Users: Captain Olimar

Terrain: Unknown planet and Hocotate's solar system/galaxy

Codex Statistics

Tier: Unknown physically, 4-C with the Nova Blaster

Cardinality: Finite

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: Unknown physically (The S.S Dolphin II is designed to haul loads of items throughout space at high speeds), At least Star level with the Nova Blaster (The Nova Blaster can create shockwaves that can reduce stars to bits)

Durability: Unknown (Was able to briefly stay intact when hit by a comet before catching on fire upon atmospheric reentry. Scales to other ships such as the S.S Drake which survived a small explosion within orbit and crashing onto the surface of PNF-404 with no notable damage)

Speed: Faster Than Light (The S.S Dolphin II can travel 279,000 light years in seconds and beyond "super light speed". The S.S Dolphin is designed for intergalactic travel), Higher with the Chronos Reactor (The Chronos Reactor changes permutations in the space-time continuum into pure energy, allowing the S.S Dolphin to launch itself across the universe)

Combat Speed: Faster Than Light with the Nova Blaster (The Nova Blaster creates shockwaves that travel in the currents of space-time, destroying anything in its path)

Stamina: Limitless with the Eternal Fuel Dynamo (The Eternal Fuel Dynamo generates an unlimited amount of energy for the S.S Dolphin II)

Range: Below Average Melee physically, Universal with the Chronos Reactor and Nova Blaster (The Chronos Reactor can warp the space-time continuum and the Nova Blaster travels through the currents of space-time), Multi-Universal with ship sensors (Should be superior to the Hocotate Ship's sensors, which can locate and interact with the Waterwraith's true form)

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Speed, Spaceflight, Small Size (Bug-Sized; Although significantly taller than Olimar, it's still incredibly small), possibly Genius Intelligence (The S.S Dolphin II has an intelligent AI that is capable of communicating with Olimar and helping him), Information Analysis and Cosmic Awareness (Can scan anomalies such as the Waterwraith and was able to deduce and sense that its physical form was present in a separate dimension. The Guard Satellite can scan and detect threats incoming. The Whimsical Radar scans nearby lost ship parts), Dimensional Storage (Can store dozens of treasures and packages in its hull like the Hocotate Freight Ship. Can store over thirty-thousand Sparklium), Teleportation (Upon being incapacitated in battle, the S.S Dolphin II will teleport Olimar back to his cockpit regardless of where he is. Can enter a state of space warping whilst flying in space), Healing and Restoration (The S.S Dolphin II can restore both Olimar and his suit to full health), Radiation Manipulation (The Radiation Canopy can transform and nullify space radiation), Light Manipulation (Nova blaster is stated to emit a dazzling burst of light), Electricity Generation and Sunlight Absorption (Can generate an infinite amount of electricty with the Eternal Fuel Dynamo. The Positron Generator absorbs solar cells to generate electricty to power the ship's interior components), Limited Purification (Can filter out toxins to prevent pollution with the Anti-Dioxin Filter), Gravity Manipulation (The Gravity Jumper manipulates gravity, allowing for easier takeoff and reentry on various planets), Gluon Manipulation (The Gluon Drive is stated to metaphysically bind gluons to travel through space), Regeneration and Restoration (High-Mid. The Repair-Type Bolt can repair anything in the ship, including the engine. The S.S Dolphin II can rebuild itself from damaged remains of over a dozen parts. The S.S Dolphin II can restore its components to their rightful positions in functioning order and should be superior to the Hocotate Ship which can rebuild itself from mere scraps), Space-Time Manipulation, Light Manipulation, and Shockwave Generation (The Nova Blaster fires a beam of dazzling light that can send shockwaves through space-time), Reality Warping, Transmutation, and Velocity Manipulation (The Chronos Reactor warps the space-time continuum, changing permutations in the space-time continuum to allow the S.S Dolphin II to launch itself across the universes)

Energy Manipulation and Light Manipulation (Sparklium is a bright source of energy that acts as fuel for the S.S Dolphin II, thus powering its mechanical functions and ability to fly), Plant Manipulation (Sparklium can grow into sparklium seed plants that produce more Sparklium), Corruption and Empathic Manipulation (Sparklium is a highly dangerous source of energy capable of corrupting organisms that are exposed to too much Sparklium at once and altering their behaviors), Empowerment (Sparklium can amplify technology and the strength of organisms), Accelerated Development and Power Modification (Physical Statistics and Abilities; The more Sparklium Olimar and the S.S Dolphin II collect, the greater his tools and equipment become), Statistics Amplification and Life Manipulation (Sparklium can increase Olimar's maximum health, thus allowing him to take more damage), Flight (Sparklium powers Olimar's jetpack, allowing him to fly short distances to avoid damage and reach certain areas), Portal Manipulation, Vacuum Manipulation, and BFR (Type 2; Olimar can summon a small Sparklium Ring that opens portals to suck up objects, including some several times larger than himself), possible Transmutation and Dimensional Storage (Anything the Sparklium Ring collects gets stored into the S.S Dolphin II's Sparklium tanks)

Other

Weaknesses: Despite its incredibly powerful weaponry, the S.S Dolphin II seems to lack any defensive shields or barriers to protect itself from danger. Furthermore, a deadly enough hit can damage the Sparklium converter and tank, causing the ship to lose power.

Note: This is the S.S Dolphin II from Hey! Pikmin. Although there's no official statement on the canonicity of Hey! Pikmin, several implications suggest that it's an alternate timeline in which the events of Pikmin 3/Pikmin 3 Deluxe never occurred. Furthermore, due to Hey! Pikmin being a spin-off, the canonicity is put into even more question.

  1. Curse that Hocotate ship. It may once have been a top-of-the-line vessel, but it's now an insult to my piloting. I can't wait to pay off that debt and get back in my beloved S.S. Dolphin. But that means I need to find something really valuable before I return home...
