Background

Cassandra Alexandra

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Cassandra’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

As the daughter of a baker in Athens, Cassandra worked hard in order to support her mother, who had fallen ill from anxiety. Three years had passed since her older sister Sophitia returned from her holy quest to destroy the cursed sword. But one day, with her wedding drawing near, Sophitia once again vanished, leaving only a note behind. Cassandra was content to look after her troubled mother, who was quite close with her errant oldest daughter, until she realized why Sopihita disappeared so suddenly...

Almost immediately, Cassandra thought of places where her sister might've gone, and her mind turned to one specific place. Half-convinced her theory is correct, Cassandra sets off at a run. Her destination: the ancient ruins of the Shrine of Eurydice. It was there that Sophitia, after her battle with the cursed sword, had returned the holy sword and shield entrusted to her by the gods.

Once Cassandra arrived, however, she found that Sophitia was nowhere to be seen. Instead, the area was consumed in a purple hazy glow, and Cassandra saw a large portal open in front of her. A figure stepped out of the portal, seemingly in a trance, with silver hair and a face covered by a small mask. The oddly familiar figure attacked Cassandra without second thought.

In self-defense, Cassandra retrieved a sword and a shield from the Shrine, and prayed to the gods. The gods answered her prayers, granting her the power to wield her sword despite never having done so in the past. After a difficult battle, Cassandra found the will to defeat her enemy and remove the mask from her face. With all doubt removed along with the mask, Cassandra now knew who stood before her.

The swordswoman who looked exactly like Cassandra began to speak hesitantly of Sophitia, and about a prophecy of a future dark and cruel. "Sophitia's child will be born with a great darkness inside, and will be abducted by the cursed sword's Malfested kin to become Soul Edge's vessel. The child will become unable to live without the sword's evil, causing Sophitia to remove the fragment of the cursed sword inside her and use it to save her child..."

Cassandra, more than anyone, understood what this prophecy meant. Sophitia had a fragment of the cursed sword inside her, a secret Cassandra never revealed to her family, Rothion, or even Sophitia herself... But before any more words could be spoken, the other Cassandra vanished, leaving behind only her mask. Cassandra took the mask for herself, and vowed to save Sophitia no matter what.

Cassandra visited the neighboring town's smithy, a place run by the young smith Rothion. Her interest in blacksmithing-and in learning about her sister Sophitia's lover Rothion-meant she'd stopped by here a number of times before. Of course, this was the first time she'd visited since her sister had left on her second journey. Her objective, of course, was to see how far Rothion had come on a certain project.

After her confrontation with Rothion, Cassandra is filled with frustration and rage. She returns to her daily tasks helping—her family at the bakery, but she can't put her heart into it. "If I fight in Sophitia's place, then she can find happiness." This thought comes to her time and time again, but unable to act on it, her wordless irritation grows until it is on the verge of bursting...

With her brother Lucius's help, Cassandra gets permission from her parents to leave home for a while. But in truth, Cassandra is resolved to fight Soul Edge and its malfested kin in her sister's stead. Her excuse to leave was to search for her sister and gather ingredients for new recipes, so she would have to stop back home now and then, but that was good enough for her purposes. Of course, she kept the fact that she was borrowing the shrine's divine arms again secret from Rothion.

Cassandra's gained some confidence from the battle with the cursed sword's kin. Praying that she'll bump into her sister somewhere by chance, she continues to roam further and further in her search. Although her pace isn't fast, she has the feeling that she's getting closer to Sophitia. This feeling is just budding in her heart when Cassandra gets a request.

Cassandra discovered an evil and unscrupulous cult after Sophitia, and unexpectedly potent power from her divine weapons. After barely escaping a deadly trap, doubt clouded Cassandra's heart. Why did Sophitia sacrifice her own happiness to take this dangerous journey? Unable to find an answer, Cassandra returns home and reveals her worries to her younger brother, Lucius.

Hearing from Lucius that a swordswoman resembling Sophitia had been seen heading towards the Shrine of Eurydice, Cassandra left again to search for her sister. There was much the two had to discuss, both great events and numerous thoughts and feelings. Cassandra was troubled-how should she approach her sister? Where should she begin? Cassandra's journey to help her sister find happiness was finally headed for a destination.

With Sophitia safely back in her hometown of Athens, peace returns to the Alexandra family. Preparations for the wedding, so long delayed, have resumed, and the day itself had finally come. At the apex of the ceremony, Sophitia and Rothion met with Cassandra and announced that they wished for their first child to be named by her, to which she felt greatly honored.

Standard Equipment

*Ω Sword & Nemea Shield: A sword and shield once used by Cassandra's older sister, Sophitia. The set was made from holy ore received from the ancient Greek god of the forge, Hephaestus. After Sophitia returned from her journey, they were reverently placed in an ancient shrine. They were made with great care and provide a well-balanced combination of offense and defense.

*Digamma Sword & Nemea Shield: Although the shield is the same that Cassandra had always wielded, this new Digamma Sword is a repaired version of her formerly-broken Ω Sword. The set was made from holy ore received from the ancient Greek god of the forge, Hephaestus.

They were made with great care and provide a well-balanced combination of offense and defense.

*Modified Digamma Sword & Nemea Shield: Although the shield is the same that Cassandra had always wielded, this new Digamma Sword is a repaired version of her formerly-broken Ω Sword. The set was made from holy ore received from the ancient Greek god of the forge, Hephaestus. They were made with great care and provide a well-balanced combination of offense and defense. Cassandra wielded these weapons during her trek through Astral Chaos.

*Ω Sword & Owl Shield: The holy weapons originally given to Sophitia by Hephaestus, the Greek god of forge. This implement of battle was made by Hephaestus himself using a sacred ore, and had divine properties. One theory holds that they are a physical incarnation of the gods themselves and that it can only be handled by those who can hear the words of the gods. Cassandra took these weapons for herself in hopes of saving the day in place of Sophitia, who she wanted to live a peaceful life.

Optional Equipment

*Dark Blade: A long sword with an elegant black blade. At one point, a group of people that assassinated a tyrant left these swords at the crime scene as a mark of justice. Even now, it is sometimes used by assassins under the cover of darkness. By soaking the blade in poison for extended periods of time, the attack capabilities of the sword have been increased. It was not designed, however, for defensive use.

  • Ivan the Terrible: A sword and shield used by the soldiers of Ivan the Terrible to conquer the Grand Duchy of Moscow. These items, the source of terror for the people of the land, were referred to by the same name as their emperor. Their fearsome design would likely wound their wielder if one was not accustomed to using them.
  • Katzbalger: A sword with an S-shaped hand guard designed to be hung from clothes or belts. The name "Katzbalger" came from a colloquial word that means "used for fighting." As appropriate for a weapon used by those that are quick to fight, it is designed to allow quick and agile movements.
  • Metesashi: A type of Japanese short sword. Carried on the opposite hip from a katana, it was used in close quarters on the battlefield in situations where drawing a katana would be difficult. It allows quick movements, but is designed only to finish off an enemy and is lacking in damage-dealing power.
  • Red Crystal Rod & Red Line Shield: A staff and shield said to have been used by a hero and a priestess in ancient Babylonia. Lending credence to that story are the many accounts from those who have used them, which tell of the healing powers the items possess. But compared to modern weapons, they are somewhat difficult to hold, and thus may be somewhat weak at blocking attacks.
  • Spiked Shield: A weapon that consists of a spike added onto the center of a shield. This spike is quite effective for offense, but it lowers its defensive capabilities.
  • Spine Blade: A sword designed to cause devastating wounds. The comb-lined blade opens numerous wounds with the small gap between each tooth. This kind of wound heals extremely poorly. In addition, the claw-like blade can work through an opponent's guard and effectively deliver damage.
  • Valkyrie: A divine sword and shield bearing the name of the maidens of war from Northern European mythology. They are said to have been left behind on earth by one of the maidens when she descended from heaven. It is said that one who wields it will be filled with courage and that their true potential will shine forth, but mere humans cannot make full use of their real power.
  • Soul Edge (Complete): An evil blade with a reputation for devouring souls. This weapon is also known to be a shape-shifter—which form it takes depends on its current owner. The forms it has taken are legendary, as are the souls of the renowned warriors it has consumed.
  • Keepsake: Cassandra's joke weapon. A sword forged by Sophitia's husband, the blacksmith Rothion, when he was still an apprentice. Apparently, someone used it in an outburst of anger, as it is quite heavily damaged. It's not much of a weapon, but perhaps that will cause opponents to let down their guard.

They are said to have been left behind on earth by one of the maidens when she descended from heaven. It is said that one who wields it will be filled with courage and that their true potential will shine forth, but mere humans cannot make full use of their real power.
  • Broken Sword: Cassandra's joke weapon. A sword forged by Sophitia's husband, the blacksmith Rothion, when he was still an apprentice. In an attempt to destroy Soul Edge, Cassandra struck at it with all her power, but all that remained was her own broken blade. It's not much of a weapon, but perhaps that will cause opponents to let down their guard.

*Soul Calibur: The Spirit Sword that has fought countless battles against Soul Edge behind the scenes of history, unbeknownst to man. It reacts to those of pure heart and gives its wielder the power to counter darkness. Just like the dark sword, it can change its form. It is a sword of light that fills its wielder with vitality merely by being held, but apparently, it is somewhat weak against direct impact.

  • Dark Blade: A long sword with an elegant black blade. At one point, a group of people that assassinated a tyrant left these swords at the crime scene as a mark of justice. Even now, it is sometimes used by assassins under the cover of darkness. By soaking the blade in poison for extended periods of time, the attack capabilities of the sword have been increased. It is said that one who wields it will be filled with courage and that their true potential will shine forth, but mere humans cannot make full use of their real power.
  • Baker's Daughter: A set that represents Cassandra's original profession, before she became a Warrior Princess fighting for the sake of justice. Taken after her father, she was originally a simple baker. This equipment set is Cassandra's joke weapon. The "sword" is a rolling pin for dough, while the "shield" is the cover of a basket. As expected, they are not well-suited for battle.

*Fire Blade: A magic sword that is said to unleash burning heat in response to its wielder's emotion. There are also stories of the sword occasionally bursting into flame, searing the hand of the unfortunate warrior who wielded it.
