Background

Kyle Schneider was a Outer Heaven architectural engineer until his wife and child died due to Outer Heaven's conflict with the west. After the loss, he started a resistance against Outer Heaven to stop their conflict from killing more innocent people. While leading the resistance he became an ally to Solid Snake during Operation Intrude N313 were he helped Snake navigate through Outer Heaven over the transceiver. Kyle eventually found out the leader of Outer Heaven's true identity and was about to reveal it to Snake but he was captured and presumed dead though, in actuality Kyle was only captured and was later saved by Big Boss after NATO bombed outer heaven. Seeing his former allies and other innocents dead, he started to agree with Big Boss's goals and he was grateful to be saved by him. He later joined NASA's extraterrestrial environment special forces program and became a part of the Black ninja unit were he was given various drugs to enhance his reflexes. After the unit was disbanded for being to dangerous to exist, Kyle with no place to go, became the mercenary Black Ninja and joined Big Boss's Zanzibar Land. As Black Ninja he would disguise himself as Dr. Kio Marv to try to lure the returning Solid Snake towards him. Once the two meet up, they began to fight with Black Ninja losing. While dying Kyle revealed himself to Snake and explained why he joined Zanzibar Land and would gave Snake information about where the real Dr. Kio Marv was before succumbing to his injuries and dying.

Note: Snake, Gray Fox, and Liquid are not assumed to scale to the 8-B potency of the Metal Gears from tanking their explosions as they were not in the epicenter, and Gray Fox/Liquid are in a protective cockpit, meaning they more then likely didn't take the full brunt of the explosion. Along with this, the destruction of Metal Gear REX from a large distance away nearly knocked Snake out while Liquid was perfectly fine, supporting that Liquid didn't take the full brunt of the explosion.
