Nail

Background
Nail is a Namekian described as the 'lone' Warrior-type Namekian left when he first appeared in the manga. He is the personal bodyguard to Grand Elder Guru, and is incredibly strong for a Namekian. In fact, he was the most powerful Namekian alive at the time of Frieza's attack on Namek. He would later fuse with Piccolo, meaning he would continue to hold the title of the most powerful Namekian, as he was part of Piccolo's immense strength.

Frieza Saga
Shortly afterward, thanks to the Namekian Dragon Balls, a newly resurrected Piccolo arrives on the planet and discovers the battered Namekian. Nail tells Piccolo that if Piccolo and Kami were one once, they would have beaten Frieza long ago. Nail asks Piccolo to fuse with him in order to increase his chances against Frieza, and at the same time save his life. Piccolo eventually agrees, after some questioning of Nail's motives, wondering if his personality will still be the same, to which Nail assures Piccolo his personality will not change, and he will still retain control. After they fuse, Piccolo's power level increases dramatically to the point of being even with that of Frieza's second form, and possibly even stronger (since Frieza made the decision to use his second transformation immediately after Piccolo removed his heavily weighted clothing). In the English dub of the anime, when Piccolo fought second form Frieza, Piccolo revealed to Frieza that the two had fused while using Nail's voice. Later, When Vegeta found out about Dende's healing ability, he asked Krillin to inflict him to gain a Zenkai boost, Dende was hesitant to heal Vegeta until Piccolo told him to while using Nail's voice. When Dende is killed by Frieza in his final form, Nail was shocked and saddened as Piccolo's thoughts. After everyone on Namek was brought back to life and transported to Earth, Dende finally realized that Nail had merged with Piccolo. Cell Saga

Codex Statistics
Grade: B (Nail is the lone true warrior of the namekians)
Grade: B
Tier: Up to 7-A. Varies-E with Strongest Charged Blast
Cardinality: Finite
Dimensionality: 3-D
Power Source: Ki (All beings in Dragon Ball[1][2][3] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[4], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[5] block attacks that would otherwise[6] kill them from[7] raising their guard[8], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[9])
Attack Potency: Up to Metropolis level (Potency) (Has a power level of 42,000, making him far above the likes of Nappa who casually destroyed a city and stood within the blast without having any damage, and Raditz who can cause explosions dwarfing the mountains). Varies: Skill with Strongest Charged Blast (Charged Blast have one focus all of their energy into one single point[10], putting the blasts power far beyond what their peak strength is[11], allowing them to destroy things they couldn't prior with their regular attacks[12], this also allows them to use charged attacks that can stop enemies far beyond their level, such as Tien Shinhan pushing back Semi-Perfect Cell with his Neo Ki-Ko-Ho[13], along with stopping an attack shot from Buu absorbed Gotenks[14]. Strongest charged blast can gather ki to shoot out blast far beyond what the character is normally capable of[15], with blasts capable of[16] seriously damaging/destroying[17] the Earth along with completely obliterating the opponent[18]. Charged Blast also rely heavily on emotional states for example Gohan not believing in himself[19] was having Cell overpower him in a beam clash[20])
Durability: Up to Metropolis level, Higher with Guard Up (Ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even block attacks that would otherwise kill them from raising their guard), Lower with Ki Control (Higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them)
Striking Strength: Up to Metropolis Class (Potency)
Lifting Strength: At least Class 1 (Superior to Saiyan Saga Goku, who before training with King Kai is able to barely move around and jump in gravity that multiplies his weight by ten times, where he's naturally 62 kg, thus making him 620 kg on King Kai's planet, and after training with King Kai, he is able to move around naturally in ten times gravity)
Travel Speed: High Hypersonic (Superior to Saiyan Saga Goku with Goku being capable of traveling over a million of kilometers in two days which results in these speeds)
Attack Speed: High Hypersonic
Reaction Speed: High Hypersonic (Superior to 22nd Budokai Son Goku, who could dodge a mouth blast from Tambourine, which he used to tag the flying nimbus which is noted to move at Mach 1.5[21])
Stamina: Superhuman (Comparable to Vegeta who stood thinking for three days without showing any signs of tiring or growing hungry)
Range: Standard Melee, Several Meters through enlarging his arms, Tens of Meters with Size Manipulation (Can reach these sizes through growing), Interstellar with Ki Attacks (Ki attacks can reach out of the planet and to other planets. All ki attacks should be comparable to Goku's kamehameha, which reached all the way to the sun)
Intelligence: Genius Intelligence (Nail is planet namek's lone warrior, being the strongest nad most skilled warrior amongst them)
- Chi Manipulation & Ki Manipulation (All beings in Dragon Ball[22][23][24] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[25], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[26] block attacks that would otherwise[27] kill them from[28] raising their guard[29], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[30])
- Aura
- Projection: A users ki aura can exert itself[31] as a weapon to attack[32].
- Explosive: Ki users through powering up can form an entire aura around themself, radiating their immense power[33], where depending on their immense strength, can cause them to explode their aura outwards to remove excess ki from themself[34].
- Mood Reflection: Goku and Piccolo Jr. with their auras and their stern concentration on each other reflected in their electric auras, even shooting electricity at each other[35].
- Emotional Empowerment (It's noted that ki users can receive energy through one cheering them on[36]. Ki users can be greatly increased by their emotions and beliefs, Son Goku explains that Son Gohan needs to remember the time he fought Cell and bring out all of the power he has, this way he can lose to no one[37] where it's shown during the Cell beam clash that he was holding back greatly out of fear of destroying the earth but from being cheered on and using all of his power within him, he was able to overpower Cell[38])
- Attack Reflection (All Ki users are able to reflect attacks just by being stronger than their opponent[39]. Examples include, Nappa deflecting a masenko from Son Gohan[40], Son Gohan being able to bounce back the spirit bomb[41], Son Goku deflecting a crusher ball from Jeice[42], Frieza deflecting a Final Burst Cannon from Vegeta[43], Son Goku reflecting multiple death beams back to back from Frieza[44], and Future Trunks being able to completely repel an energy blast with his hand from a Frieza Soldier just by being much stronger than them[45])
- Homing Attack (Ki users can create attacks that will home in and chase a target forever[46])
- Penetration Damage
- Weapon Creation (Ki users can create energy weapons out of their attacks[50])
- Power Absorption & Energy Transferal (Ki users can transfer their ki to others and absorb the ki given to them from others[51])
- Attack Nullification
- Power Nullification
- Ki Energy Based: Through having greater ki, one can nullify the powers done through ki attacks, such as Frieza being able to nullify a hakai ball[55], which fully destroys a target[56], though he is unable to resist a hakai ball from Toppo due to him being stronger[57], this ability however only works on ki, attacks unrelated, characters cannot resist through being stronger, such as how Vegeta, Krillin, & Son Gohan are unable to resist Guldo's psychic powers[58], along with even the likes of Son Goku[59].
- Forcefield Creation (Ki users such as Cell can generate forcefields around themselves[60]. These forcefields can be expanded[61], and used to protect others and defend against attacks far higher then the user[62]. Forcefields effectivel allow the ki user to be able to block substances from other ki techniques, such as poisons[63]. Ki users can also project forcefields around themselves to protect themselves from ki absorptions that require grabbing them and bringing them into one's body[64])
- Super Armor (Through releasing one's ki, they enter a state known as "Hyper Mode"[65], in this state they do not flinch from weak melee attacks[66])
- Self-Destruction (Ki users in Dragon Ball are able to[67] release all of the energy within them[68] to cause a massive[69] self-destruction of energy that normally kills the user and turns them into dust[70] though one can control it to surviving but having no stamina or energy left[71])
- Dormant Power Reservoir (Ki users have a dormant power reservoir within them, as shown in arcs like the Buu Saga where Babidi saps this energy in order to use the energy to revive Buu and break his seal[72])
- Internal Destruction (Powerful ki users can overload enemies with their ki, causing them to swell up and explode from the sheer density of ki within them[73])
- Binding
- Dreaming Existence (Characters in Shin Budokai have shown to create physical bodies in alternate timelines through dreaming[76])
- Non-Standard Interaction
- Intangible Interaction: Those with ki can block intangible attacks when they focus and notices them[77].
- Space-Time Interaction (3+1-D): Characters can blast space-time distortions to close them[78].
- Healing
- Healing Singular Targets
- Advanced Healing: Ki can be used to heal beings, allowing them to survive even with half their torso[79], it can also heal from near death[80].
- Healing Singular Targets
- Resurrection
- Resurrection of the Deceased (Limited): Ki users can resuscitate ones heart from death through instilling lifeforce into their ki and hitting their heart, restarting it[81].
- Resurrection from Exhaustion: Can heal downed allies to give them ki back, reviving them[82])
- Intimidation & Spirit Manipulation (Ki is the manifestation of one’s lifeforce[83], along with the aura giving one the feeling of being crushed[84], exerting fear[85] into the target, sometimes making them incapable of moving as their[86] body is instinctively stuck due to the sheer difference in power[87])
- Link Manipulation & Mind Manipulation (Characters can link their ki together and train within each other’s mind enacting in image training[88])
- Vibration Manipulation
- Electricity Manipulation
- Weather Manipulation (Powerful Ki users can generate entire storms through merely powering up alone, Nappa used this in order to conjure the electricity from the storm[93]. Goku showcases this when he first turns super saiyan, causing a massive lightning storm in the background[94])
- Energy Manipulation (Ki is the latent power in one's body, this latent power allows them to form and create energy from controlling their ki[95])
- Explosion Manipulation (Ki attacks can create massive explosions[98], or control the ki to set off a huge explosion under the enemy[99], or in front of them[100])
- Portal Manipulation
- Non-combat applicable: Characters in GT can link their minds together to open a portal between the living realm and the other world[101].
- Heat Manipulation
- Fire Manipulation (Ki users can manifest fireballs to throw at enemies[105])
- Light Manipulation (Ki can be used as a flash of light[106][107][108][109][110][111][112][113][114], Degisu seeing ki attacks be fired notes that the characters are "firing light from their hands"[115]).
- Aura
- Limited Resistance to
- Durability Negation (Ki users can focus their energy to localize an object to a specific spot to stop them from attempting to destroy their organs/insides[116])
- Soul Manipulation (Characters with a strong enough will can keep moving after getting their soul reaped, though this requires something akin to a familial or friendship empowerment)
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Fighter's Intuition
- Flight
- Enhanced Senses (Namekians have extremely good hearing to the point that their ears are sensitive)
- Longevity (Kami has lived for over century and and other namekians by extension should be able to live for this long)
- Body Control and Elasticity (Namekians can extend and stretch their limbs)
- Size Manipulation (Namekains can increase their size)
- Regeneration
- Types
- Passive: Namekians can passively regenerate minor injuries if their health is low[117].
- Active: For more serious injuries Namekians need to outright focus and concentrate to regrow things like lost limbs[118].
- Source: Biological Regeneration
- Capabilities: Namekians can regenerate damage as long as their head remains intact. However, them using their regeneration lowers their power level and has it stay there[119].
- Types
- Reincarnation
- Self-Reincarnation
- Magic
- Telepathy (As a Namekian, Nail can telepathically speak to others)
- Telekinesis (Can telekinetically move objects)
- Fusionism (Nail can perform the Fusion Dance like other characters)
- Biological Manipulation and Creation (Should be comparable to Piccolo, who can create his children through spitting out eggs)
- Cloth Manipulation (Should be comparable to Piccolo, who is able to create clothes for his target along with a sword)
Nothing notable.
Notable Techniques
- Flight: The ability to fly with the use of ki.
- Ki Sense: The ability to sense ki energy. Nail is able to also sense if the energy is good or evil.
- Ki Blast: The most basic form of energy wave.
- Please Leave: While shouting "I won't show mercy!", Nail charges at the opponent with his right arm raised. He then swings his arm forward to hand chop the opponent in their neck, inflicting a great deal of damage.
- Mystic Flasher: Nail turns around and blasts the opponent with a massive yellow energy wave, inflicting a great amount of damage.
- Regeneration: The ability to regrow certain body parts or cells that have been dismembered or destroyed and replace them with brand new cells, or simply regrouping all of their separated parts back together.
- Namekian Fusion: It is more of an assimilation than fusion, as one Namekian absorbs the energy, strength, memories, and intelligence or thought pattern of another. Both participants must willingly consent to fuse in this manner and usually the pair agrees to the stronger of the two to serve their body as the host; the reason for this consent is that the body of the absorbed Namekian disappears during this fusion and the consciousness ceases to exist as a body. The agreed host places his hand over the chest of the other one and through unknown thoughts, a flash merges them. After the fusion, the non-host's consciousness lives inside the body of the host from this point onwards and their life span as a body ends. The host's consciousness dominates the body, while the non-host serves to aid him by supplying information, thereby meaning that the absorbed consciousness remains separate from the host's.
Other
Standard Tactics: Nail will employ hand to hand techniques along with ki attacks.
Weaknesses
- Standard Ki Weaknesses: Ki users that do not have sufficient training over their emotions put their power within a mental lock, with changes to their emotions can seriously limiting their powers or making them uncontrollable[120]. Their emotions can also have them instinctively block using the full power of their attacks out of fear of the destruction along with lack of confidence in themselves[121].Ki users can only sense targets moving at super speed through feeling their chi[122], with them becoming so accustomed to tracking energy that they've lost their eyes for movement[123]. Ki users can get hit by off guard attacks from characters far slower then them[124]. If ki users are paralyzed or their nerves are numb, they can be killed by much weaker attacks[125]. If a Ki user is inflicted with any kind of status, disease, or poison, powering up or transforming will put further strain on the body[126] and can speed up the process of poison[127]. Users of Ki Sensing cannot sense beings that invisible, even if the character is in front of them attacking them, they have a hard time countering them due to being invisible[128]. Users of Ki Sensing also have a harder time sensing the true being using illusions, requiring them to focus in on energy fields to see who is moving and who is casting the illusion[129]. Due to the nature of ki draining stamina and energy, Dragon Ball characters ki usage requires them to usually use their higher levels of energy in short bursts, using a large amount of ki overtime can greatly weaken them to the point that characters far lower then them can actually harm them with attacks[130]. Taking large amounts of damage can greatly deplete a ki users attacks, making it where attacks that would otherwise kill massively weakened characters, only pushes them back[131]. Ki users cannot put all of their ki and strength into an attack if parts of their body are broken/injured[132][133], they also lose half of their chi if something like one of their arms are badly injured or broken[134].Ki users that are able to ki sense cannot do it when their guard is dropped, such as when Vegeta was able to sneak attack Son Goku during the end of their fight in the Buu Saga[135]. Despite some ki users being able to reach blasts that can destroy planets through charged attacks or techniques[136][137][138][139], they have not shown to be able to tank such blasts themselves[140][141][142], with attacks that have[143] destroyed several[144] planets in the series[145] always killing the character. Even characters such as Majin Buu's body cannot withstand the energy of a planet exploding[146]. Using ki volley attacks come with the caveat of their aim being rather poor, making it harder to hit moving targets. If ki users are at all possessed, even by accident, their true self will be sleeping within, with the possessor needing to awaken them[147]. Even if awoken, they are immobilized and unable to move without the possessor giving them the ability to[148], even with them wanting to wake up, they cannot do it[149]. Specific waves can can suppress a ki users power, and put their consciousness to sleep[150]. If Ki users stamina is broken, they will unable to be able to continue fighting for a short while, this will also cancel out any ki attack they were attempting to use, including ultimate's[151], this also adds on that ki users guards are down while charging ultimate attacks. Their stamina can also be broken if a character moves far too fast and surprise attacks them while they're charging their ki[152]. Ki Users can also be grabbed out of charging their attacks[153]. When ki users radiate their Ki at its highest, their body is also freed the most, making them open to attacks and making them easy to possess[154]. Ki attacks can be blocked by magma based attacks, such as even when Vegeta's strongest charged blast, the final flash, was being blocked by Magetta's magma[155]. Ki users have far lower reactions and speeds when they do not have their ki up or are not on guard, such as when Mai's sniper would've hit Goku Black if she didn't miss[156].
- Namekian Weaknesses: Namekians are highly sensitive to extremely high pitched sounds. Namekians regeneration are based on their stamina, along with this, if their head is not intact, they cannot regenerate.
Note
- Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up[157].
- The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.
Trivia
- Nail's name is a pun on the word "snail".
- His name is also a pun of the word of one of the human anatomy and a fastener metal object.
- There are parts of Nail's clothing that are torn when fighting Frieza which are not present when Piccolo arrives on the site of the battle in both the manga and anime, although Nail is clearly grievously injured as before and had no time to recuperate.
- Even though, prior to their fusion, Piccolo says to Nail that once they will finish with Frieza they will split up, he is actually never shown doing so on-screen. Piccolo later reveals to Goku that once two Namekians fuse, they can never separate again.
- It is likely that before his fusion with Nail, Piccolo was unaware that Namekian fusion was permanent and/or assumed that he could use fission to remove Nail like the Nameless Namekian did to remove the evil from himself that spawned King Piccolo. Presumably, Piccolo only discovered that defusing was impossible only after he had fused with Nail.
- In World Mission, a game world anomaly is shown to be strong enough to undo Namekian fusion which Great Saiyaman 3 notes should be impossible under normal circumstances and that it must be some anomaly to be able to reverse Piccolo's fusion with Kami and Nail.
- During the battle with Moro, Vegeta reveals he learned a technique that could separate Piccolo from his fusees, something that shock Piccolo.
- In the original Funimation dub, Nail has a soft, raspy voice. In Dragon Ball Z Kai, he has a deeper voice.
- In all the games that he appears playable (except Gekishin Freeza), Nail is missing his vest (although he has it on outside of battle at Guru's House in Xenoverse 2), the reason of it remains unknown, though presumably this is a reference to the fact he removed it during his fight with Frieza. Interestingly, the vest has never been featured as a playable alternate costume for Nail.
- In Dragon Ball Fusions, if the top portion of Nail's Outfit is worn by a Female Tekka of any race, it will feature the addition of a sports bra-like halter top to cover their chest.
Explanations
Codex Statistics Questions
Q: What about the planetary feats in Dragon Ball?
A: Planetary feats are normally done through their strongest charged blast, where they can gather ki to shoot out blast far beyond what the character is normally capable of[158], with blasts capable of[159] seriously damaging/destroying[160] the Earth along with completely obliterating the opponent[161], though they themselves are never capable of leaving this unscathed.
Frieza throws a destroy the planet death ball attack but it doesn't destroy the planet. Goku then interestingly notes the reason the planet didn't blow up is because Frieza was too scared of getting caught in the blast[162] . Vegeta's final flash is noted it's going to destroy the planet and Perfect Cell, who is beyond Vegeta, couldn't tank the blast and had to dodge it last second or it would've killed him[163]. Goku's kamehameha was going to destroy the earth and Cell cannot tank this blast, needing to regenerate[164]. Semi-Perfect Cell explosion was consistently noted it was going to destroy the planet and Gohan and it killed Goku[165]. Ultimate Gohan dies to an attack that destroys the earth, his guard was up too since this was when he was fighting Super Buu[166]. Kid Buu shoots a blast trying to destroy the planet, with Vegeta noting he's going to take himself out with it if he lets it off[167]. In Dragon Ball GT, Great Ape Baby Vegeta shoots a super galick gun that he claims will destroy Earth, when Goku is hit by it, he is knocked out to the point that he can't move for a good while, Elder Kai and Shin later state that Baby is going to shoot another blast that will destroy the planet on, greatly injuring Baby if he's caught in the Blast and will kill everyone on the planet if done[168]. Frieza destroyed the entire earth, killing Vegeta in the process[169]. In the Dragon Ball Super Manga, Gohan tells Goku that he doesn't need to hold anything back and can go all out because anything that happens to the Earth can be restored with Dende and the Dragon Balls. Yet, none of Goku's all out attacks destroy the planet but just heavily causes shockwaves around it[170]. Semi-Perfect Cell unleashes a several blast that destroys several islands Android 16 notes that the attacks are just strong enough to not kill Android 18[171].
In the fight of Trunks vs. Mecha Frieza, who is far stronger than his final form, Mecha Frieza immediately goes for his strongest attack, the Supernova. In the original Z anime King Kai even states this is ten times stronger than the power he used on Namek:
- DBZ Kai Version[172].
- Original DBZ Anime Version[173]. The attack is directly noted that it could destroy the planet, but doesn't because Trunks catches it, when Mecha Frieza proceeds to detonate it, the explosion is massive but the planet is still intact, implying Frieza must target the core in order to destroy the planet.

First Appearance: chapter 4
Category: vehicle
Explanation: A mystical cloud which Goku received from Kame-sennin. It was originally a part of the giant Kinto-un owned by Karin-sama, and long ago Kame-sennin broke a piece off and took it with him. In the past it was wiped out by Tambourine, and the current Kinto-un is the second generation. Goku went through many adventures with it, and it was passed on to his son Gohan.
Special Characteristics: An extremely mysterious riding cloud. It freely flies through the air in accordance with its rider's will, going from stationary to its maximum speed of mach 1.5. Though it's very convenient, only those with pure hearts can ride it. If those with wicked thoughts get on the cloud, they will simply plunge through it. Also, it will soon reconstruct itself even when hit by attacks from bombs or missiles, and will only be wiped out when attacked by a Demon Clansman's ki. (Daizenshuu 4, p.144)
