Nappa

Dragon Ball/Nappa

He's still alive! Now that's what I want to SEEEEEEE!!!
~ Nappa using Volcano Explosion

Background

Nappa was an Elite Saiyan Warrior hailing from Planet Vegeta, who served as the right-hand of the Saiyan Prince, Vegeta. He also serves as one of the primary antagonists in the Saiyan Saga of Dragon Ball. After the destruction of his planet, Nappa served directly under Frieza, alongside Raditz and Vegeta who became a small team. Incredibly simple-minded and lusting for combat, Nappa travelled planet to planet alongside his comrades, wreaking havoc.

After receiving news of Raditz's death on Earth, and hearing of the mystical Dragon Balls that resided there, Nappa and Vegeta decided to head for the planet and claim the Dragon Balls for themselves. After a year of travel, the two arrived and began their search. Very quickly, the protectors of Earth intercepted them, and a battle began.

Nappa easily took on all of the fighters by himself, taking his time to revel in the battle instead of killing everyone immediately. Before he could finally deliver the finishing blows, however, Son Goku made his grand arrival and fought him. After being handily defeated by Goku, Nappa lay unable to walk at Vegeta's feet, begging for help.

Unfortunately for Nappa, Vegeta proclaimed that he had no use for a Saiyan that couldn't move. With one swift attack, Vegeta obliterated Nappa, leaving him nothing but ashes. Nappa was sent to Other World and then Hell by King Yemma, where he remained for the foreseen future.

All of his evil actions are done for his own enjoyment, even disobeying Vegeta's own orders at times)

Codex Statistics

Grade: B

Tier: 7-A. Varies-E with Strongest Charged Blast

Cardinality: Finite

Dimensionality: 3-D

Power Source: Ki (All beings in Dragon Ball[1][2][3] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[4], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[5] block attacks that would otherwise[6] kill them from[7] raising their guard[8], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[9])

Attack Potency: Metropolis level (Potency) (Casually destroyed a city and stood within the blast without having any damage. Has a power level of 4,000). Varies: Skill with Strongest Charged Blast (Charged Blast have one focus all of their energy into one single point[10], putting the blasts power far beyond what their peak strength is[11], allowing them to destroy things they couldn't prior with their regular attacks[12], this also allows them to use charged attacks that can stop enemies far beyond their level, such as Tien Shinhan pushing back Semi-Perfect Cell with his Neo Ki-Ko-Ho[13], along with stopping an attack shot from Buu absorbed Gotenks[14]. Strongest charged blast can gather ki to shoot out blast far beyond what the character is normally capable of[15], with blasts capable of[16] seriously damaging/destroying[17] the Earth along with completely obliterating the opponent[18]. Charged Blast also rely heavily on emotional states for example Gohan not believing in himself[19] was having Cell overpower him in a beam clash[20])

Durability: Metropolis level (Stood within a blast blast that destroyed an entire city and took no damage), Higher with Guard Up (Ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even block attacks that would otherwise kill them from raising their guard)

Striking Strength: Metropolis Class (Potency)

Lifting Strength: Class 1 (Superior to Early Saiyan Saga Goku, who before training with King Kai is able to barely move around and jump in gravity that multiplies his weight by ten times, where he's naturally 62 kg, thus making him 620 kg on King Kai's planet)

Travel Speed: At least Superhuman (Superior to Early Saiyan Saga Son Goku, where it was noted by Goku that it took him six months to travel snake way, which results in these speeds)

Attack Speed: High Hypersonic

Reaction Speed: High Hypersonic (Far Beyond 22nd Budokai Son Goku, who could dodge a mouth blast from Tambourine, which he used to tag the flying nimbus where even post King Kai training Goku used the flying nimbus to make it to the saiyans implying it is at least comparable to his flight speed by then, with Goku being capable of traveling over a million of kilometers in two days which results in these speeds)

Stamina: Superhuman (Should be comparable to, if not superior to, early-Dragon Ball Z Goku, who travelled across Snake Way mainly non-stop for over 100 days. As a Saiyan Warrior, who are essentially born for combat, his stamina is incredibly high)

Range: Standard Melee, Interstellar with Ki Attacks (Ki attacks can reach out of the planet and to other planets. All ki attacks should be comparable to Goku's kamehameha, which reached all the way to the sun)

Intelligence: Genius Intelligence (An extremely powerful and competent fighter, Nappa was able to easily take on martial artists such as Krillin, Piccolo, and Tien Shinhan, all at the same time, who each have several years of fighting experience)

Powers and Techniques

Equipment

  • Attack Ball: This round Saiyan space pod only has room for one person, which Nappa used to travel from planet to planet; notably, he used this space pod to travel to Earth. Nappa's Saiyan pod was later destroyed accidentally by Bulma, while attempting to activate it.
  • Saibamen: Nappa always holds onto seeds that he can plant into fertile soil, which grow Saibamen. These Saibamen are completely subservient to him, and each have a Power Level of 1,200.

  • Saiyan Armor: Due to being a part of the Saiyan Army and Frieza Force, Nappa has Saiyan Armor. This armor is unbelievably durable, but also incredibly stretchy; the armor can stretch so much that it fits around Saiyans when they turn into a Great Ape.
  • Scouter: Technology developed by the Tuffle race, but adopted by the Saiyans after the Tuffles were wiped out. This advanced piece of technology can detect the presence of life forms, calculate anyone’s battle power, and can also be used for telecommunication.

Notable Techniques

  • Flight: With a mastery of Ki control, Gohan is able to fly at incredibly high speeds.
  • Ki Blast: Using Ki, Gohan can concentrate it into a ball that he uses as a projectile attack.
  • Volcano Explosion: Nappa rises his right hand with his index and middle fingers up, releasing a white Exploding Wave.
  • Arm Break: Nappa charges up a ton of Ki into his hand, and delivers a powerful punch to the opponent's arm. This has been used to sever Tien Shinhan's arm.
  • Break Cannon: Nappa fires a huge beam of Ki from his mouth.
  • Eye Lasers: Nappa can fire Ki beams from his eyes.
  • Bomber DX: This move has Nappa build a ton of Ki in his palm, before throwing it like a bomb that explodes on contact.

Other

Standard Tactics: Nappa will envelop a tactic of using weaker attacks against his opponent to make them suffer, though if they are stronger than him or around his level he will use his more powerful attacks and attempt to finish them off with ki blast/ki attacks.

Weaknesses

Note

  • Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up[236].
  • The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.

Codex Statistics Questions

Q: What about the planetary feats in Dragon Ball?

A: Planetary feats are normally done through their strongest charged blast, where they can gather ki to shoot out blast far beyond what the character is normally capable of[237], with blasts capable of[238] seriously damaging/destroying[239] the Earth along with completely obliterating the opponent[240], though they themselves are never capable of leaving this unscathed.

Frieza throws a destroy the planet death ball attack but it doesn't destroy the planet. Goku then interestingly notes the reason the planet didn't blow up is because Frieza was too scared of getting caught in the blast[241] . Vegeta's final flash is noted it's going to destroy the planet and Perfect Cell, who is beyond Vegeta, couldn't tank the blast and had to dodge it last second or it would've killed him[242]. Goku's kamehameha was going to destroy the earth and Cell cannot tank this blast, needing to regenerate[243]. Semi-Perfect Cell explosion was consistently noted it was going to destroy the planet and Gohan and it killed Goku[244]. Ultimate Gohan dies to an attack that destroys the earth, his guard was up too since this was when he was fighting Super Buu[245]. Kid Buu shoots a blast trying to destroy the planet, with Vegeta noting he's going to take himself out with it if he lets it off[246]. In Dragon Ball GT, Great Ape Baby Vegeta shoots a super galick gun that he claims will destroy Earth, when Goku is hit by it, he is knocked out to the point that he can't move for a good while, Elder Kai and Shin later state that Baby is going to shoot another blast that will destroy the planet on, greatly injuring Baby if he's caught in the Blast and will kill everyone on the planet if done[247]. Frieza destroyed the entire earth, killing Vegeta in the process[248]. In the Dragon Ball Super Manga, Gohan tells Goku that he doesn't need to hold anything back and can go all out because anything that happens to the Earth can be restored with Dende and the Dragon Balls. Yet, none of Goku's all out attacks destroy the planet but just heavily causes shockwaves around it[249]. Semi-Perfect Cell unleashes a several blast that destroys several islands Android 16 notes that the attacks are just strong enough to not kill Android 18[250].

In the fight of Trunks vs. Mecha Frieza, who is far stronger than his final form, Mecha Frieza immediately goes for his strongest attack, the Supernova. In the original Z anime King Kai even states this is ten times stronger than the power he used on Namek:

  • DBZ Kai Version[251].
  • Original DBZ Anime Version[252]. The attack is directly noted that it could destroy the planet, but doesn't because Trunks catches it, when Mecha Frieza proceeds to detonate it, the explosion is massive but the planet is still intact, implying Frieza must target the core in order to destroy the planet.
