Yamcha was born on March 20, Age 733. He became a bandit of the Diablo Desert, and lived off of the resources he would pillage from people passing by. Because of this, he developed very powerful fighting techniques and martial arts skill, as well as a hardened personality; curiously, though, he always dreamed of marriage, and would be paralyzed at just the sight of a woman. At the age of 14, Yamcha met his companion, the shape-shifting cat Puar, and the two would soon become lifelong friends. Puar became Yamcha’s partner in crime for the next two years, until they crossed paths with a young Saiyan named Goku, and his companions Bulma and Oolong. Although Yamcha was at first simply wanting to rob the crew, Goku’s resilience and Bulma’s appearance kept him at bay. The bandit eventually developed feelings for Bulma, as she did for him. Yamcha would go on to trail the crew, with the hopes of finally being able to steal from them and return home, although he found himself, more often than not, coming to their aid. Eventually, with how many times he fought alongside Goku’s crew, he teamed up with them, making Yamcha the first member of Goku’s Dragon Team. Yamcha would go on to participate in several World Martial Arts Tournaments, and found tutelage under the legendary Turtle Hermit, Master Roshi. Soon enough, Yamcha became a formidable opponent and one of the most powerful humans on the entire planet, with his power skyrocketing in order to keep pace with his peers. Unfortunately, however, his relationship was shaky; Bulma mistook his nervousness around women for disloyalty, and the two would eventually split up. However, despite this, Yamcha still remained a loyal, caring, and charismatic friend. He’s suffered several defeats, namely when he lost his life during the Saiyan invasion on Earth, but continued pushing forwards in his martial arts expertise. No matter how outclassed he felt himself getting, he would continue to do what he could, including joining the Cell Games. Yamcha also went on to follow his true passion, and become a worldwide professional baseball player. Although even with a career in baseball keeping him busy, he will always be there if the Earth is threatened. |

Powers and Techniques
- Chi Manipulation & Ki Manipulation (All beings in Dragon Ball[47][48][49] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[50], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[51] block attacks that would otherwise[52] kill them from[53] raising their guard[54], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[55])
- Aura
- Projection: A users ki aura can exert itself[56] as a weapon to attack[57].
- Explosive: Ki users through powering up can form an entire aura around themself, radiating their immense power[58], where depending on their immense strength, can cause them to explode their aura outwards to remove excess ki from themself[59].
- Mood Reflection: Goku and Piccolo Jr. with their auras and their stern concentration on each other reflected in their electric auras, even shooting electricity at each other[60].
- Emotional Empowerment (It's noted that ki users can receive energy through one cheering them on[61]. Ki users can be greatly increased by their emotions and beliefs, Son Goku explains that Son Gohan needs to remember the time he fought Cell and bring out all of the power he has, this way he can lose to no one[62] where it's shown during the Cell beam clash that he was holding back greatly out of fear of destroying the earth but from being cheered on and using all of his power within him, he was able to overpower Cell[63])
- Attack Reflection (All Ki users are able to reflect attacks just by being stronger than their opponent[64]. Examples include, Nappa deflecting a masenko from Son Gohan[65], Son Gohan being able to bounce back the spirit bomb[66], Son Goku deflecting a crusher ball from Jeice[67], Frieza deflecting a Final Burst Cannon from Vegeta[68], Son Goku reflecting multiple death beams back to back from Frieza[69], and Future Trunks being able to completely repel an energy blast with his hand from a Frieza Soldier just by being much stronger than them[70])
- Homing Attack (Ki users can create attacks that will home in and chase a target forever[71])
- Penetration Damage
- Weapon Creation (Ki users can create energy weapons out of their attacks[75])
- Power Absorption & Energy Transferal (Ki users can transfer their ki to others and absorb the ki given to them from others[76])
- Attack Nullification
- Power Nullification
- Ki Energy Based: Through having greater ki, one can nullify the powers done through ki attacks, such as Frieza being able to nullify a hakai ball[80], which fully destroys a target[81], though he is unable to resist a hakai ball from Toppo due to him being stronger[82], this ability however only works on ki, attacks unrelated, characters cannot resist through being stronger, such as how Vegeta, Krillin, & Son Gohan are unable to resist Guldo's psychic powers[83], along with even the likes of Son Goku[84].
- Forcefield Creation (Ki users such as Cell can generate forcefields around themselves[85]. These forcefields can be expanded[86], and used to protect others and defend against attacks far higher then the user[87])
- Super Armor (Through releasing one's ki, they enter a state known as "Hyper Mode"[88], in this state they do not flinch from weak melee attacks[89])
- Self-Destruction (Ki users in Dragon Ball are able to[90] release all of the energy within them[91] to cause a massive[92] self-destruction of energy that normally kills the user and turns them into dust[93] though one can control it to surviving but having no stamina or energy left[94])
- Dormant Power Reservoir (Ki users have a dormant power reservoir within them, as shown in arcs like the Buu Saga where Babidi saps this energy in order to use the energy to revive Buu and break his seal[95])
- Internal Destruction (Powerful ki users can overload enemies with their ki, causing them to swell up and explode from the sheer density of ki within them[96])
- Binding
- Dreaming Existence (Characters in Shin Budokai have shown to create physical bodies in alternate timelines through dreaming[99])
- Non-Standard Interaction
- Intangible Interaction: Those with ki can block intangible attacks when they focus and notices them[100].
- Space-Time Interaction (3+1-D): Characters can blast space-time distortions to close them[101].
- Healing
- Healing Singular Targets
- Advanced Healing: Ki can be used to heal beings, allowing them to survive even with half their torso[102], it can also heal from near death[103].
- Healing Singular Targets
- Resurrection
- Resurrection of the Deceased (Limited): Ki users can resurrect ones heart from death if their ki beams hit their heart, restarting it[104].
- Resurrection from Exhaustion: Can heal downed allies to give them ki back, reviving them[105])
- Intimidation & Spirit Manipulation (Ki is the manifestation of one’s lifeforce[106], along with the aura giving one the feeling of being crushed[107], exerting fear[108] into the target, sometimes making them incapable of moving as their[109] body is instinctively stuck due to the sheer difference in power[110])
- Link Manipulation & Mind Manipulation (Characters can link their ki together and train within each other’s mind enacting in image training[111])
- Vibration Manipulation
- Electricity Manipulation
- Weather Manipulation (Powerful Ki users can generate entire storms through merely powering up alone, Nappa used this in order to conjure the electricity from the storm[116]. Goku showcases this when he first turns super saiyan, causing a massive lightning storm in the background[117])
- Energy Manipulation (Ki is the latent power in one's body, this latent power allows them to form and create energy from controlling their ki, which can be used to shoot out energy blast[118])
- Explosion Manipulation (Ki attacks can create massive explosions[120], or control the ki to set off a huge explosion under the enemy[121], or in front of them[122])
- Portal Manipulation
- Non-combat applicable: Characters in GT can link their minds together to open a portal between the living realm and the other world[123].
- Heat Manipulation
- Light Manipulation (Ki can be used as a flash of light[127][128][129][130][131][132][133][134][135], Degisu seeing ki attacks be fired notes that the characters are "firing light from their hands"[136]).
- Limited Resistance to
- Durability Negation (Ki users can focus their energy to localize an object to a specific spot to stop them from attempting to destroy their organs/insides[137])
- Soul Manipulation (Characters with a strong enough will can keep moving after getting their soul reaped, though this requires something akin to a familial or friendship empowerment)
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Human Achievements (Yamcha is a professional baseball player, he can sculpt a perfect sword out of falling rubble)
- Martial Arts
- Striking Arts: Went to train under Master Roshi and learn the turtle hermit style, a style training one to break the wall of humanity[139] mastering the art in both body and mind[140]. This style requires one to train in knowledge[141], work on one's stamina[142] work on their muscles and speed[143] dodge attacks even while tied to a rope in a short range[144] all the while wearing 20-kilo shells[145]. The Turtle Hermit Style are incorporated within this[146], allowing for students that trained under this style to be capable[147] of fighting against other martial artists[148] without needing to be taught any real fighting[149] along with taking no damage from attacks due to the style training their durability[150].
- Weapon Mastery
- Sword Mastery: Can use a sword in combat.
- Firearm Mastery: Used a rocket launcher to destroy part of a car and was going to use his automatic rifle afterwards.
- Acrobatics
- Flight
- Enhanced Senses
- Extrasensory Perception
- Afterimage Creation (Yamcha can use afterimages)
- Adaptation (Yamcha was able to adapt to the 10x gravity on King Kai’s planet during training)
- Accelerated Development & Reactive Power Level (Yamcha’s power level will grow at a higher rate than some humans who have trained for their entire lives, in order to keep up with the other Z Fighters)
- Mimicry
- Power Mimicry & Technique Mimicry: Yamcha could replicate the Kamehameha after only seeing it be performed.
- Possible Statistics Amplification (Can theoretically use the Kaioken technique to amplify himself by at least 2x, due to his training with King Kai, as shown in the video games)
- Fusionism (Yamcha can perform the Fusion Dance)
- Vibration Manipulation & Limited Air Manipulation (Yamcha can make a shockwave with Heel Crash. His Wolf Fang Fist generated a wind blast that tore down a castle wall)
- Limited Illusion Manipulation (Yamcha’s Wolf Fang Fist gave the illusion of an actual wolf biting Tien)
- Healing
- Low-Mid: Senzu Bean fulls heals the body of all health, stamina, and Ki loss, along with vital organs being damaged.
- Magic (Senzu Beans are said to be magical in properties)
- Statistics Amplification (Power Capsule will increase attack power, Guard Capsule increases defence strength, Speed Capsule increases speed and mobility, and Power Level Capsule will increase all stats)
- Explosion Manipulation (Shots from the Panzerfaust will explode on impact. Has a rocket launcher that explodes on impact)

- Gi (Turtle School): The orange Gi that Yamcha usually wears, which was given to him during his time under Master Roshi’s tutelage. It has the insignia of the Turtle School on it.
- Gi (King Kai): This orange Gi is virtually the same as the one he got from the Turtle School, aside from the patch, which now sports King Kai’s insignia. He was given this after his training with King Kai.
- Bandit Garbs: The green outfits that Yamcha wore during his time as a bandit, complete with a red headband. He eventually abandoned this costume when he was taught by Master Roshi.

- Ki Blast: Using Ki, Yamcha can concentrate it into a ball that he uses as a projectile attack.
- Ki Sense: Yamcha is able to detect lifeforms and power levels from far off.
- Wolf Fang Fist: Yamcha’s most famous attack, which sees him do a barrage of claw swipes and punches, before finishing by sending the opponent hurtling with a palm strike and a howl.
- Blinding Wolf Fang Fist: Yamcha charges at the foe and kicks them high into the air, before charging power in his palms and rushing at them and blasting right through them.
- Neo Wolf Fang Fist: A much more powerful version of the Wolf Fang Fist, which is amplified in power by his Ki.
- Kamehameha: The iconic move coined by Master Roshi, which Yamcha has adopted for himself. This starts as a blue Ki ball, which is charged in Yamcha’s hands before releasing as an incredibly powerful beam.
- Super Kamehameha: This is an amplified version of the Kamehameha which has a larger and more devastating beam, which Yamcha uses by first bolstering his Ki.
- Spirit Ball: One of Yamcha’s original attacks, which has him hold out his hand facing upwards and form a large yellow Ki ball within it. He then launches this at the enemy, and can control its trajectory completely with the movement of his hands.
- Super Spirit Ball: Called an “Extra Large Spirit Ball” by Yamcha himself, this is simply a larger and more powerful version of the original, which he uses when his Ki is bolstered.
- Fusion Dance: This is a technique that Yamcha learned, which allows him to temporarily fuse bodies with another who performs the dance. Usually he does this with Tien.
- Kaio-ken: A technique that Yamcha learned on King Kai’s Planet, which he has shown to be able to do in video games. This technique surrounds him in a red aura, and lets him multiply his power by incredible amounts, at the cost of his stamina.
Other
Standard Tactics: Originally as a bandit Yamcha favored more sly attacks such as attacking with weapons from afar and if he had to fight up close, using his wolf fang fist and sword. Currently, Yamcha will employ hand to hand combat along with ki attacks.
Weaknesses
- Standard Ki Weaknesses: Ki users that do not have sufficient training over their emotions put their power within a mental lock, thus affects to their emotions can seriously limit their powers[151], their emotions can also have them instinctively block using the full power of their attacks out of fear of the destruction along with lack of confidence in themselves[152]. If a Ki user is inflicted with any kind of status, disease, or poison, powering up or transforming will put further strain on the body[153] and can speed up the process of poison[154]. Users of Ki Sensing cannot sense beings that invisible, even if the character is in front of them attacking them, they have a hard time countering them due to being invisible[155]. Users of Ki Sensing also have a harder time sensing the true being using illusions, requiring them to focus in on energy fields to see who is moving and who is casting the illusion[156]. Due to the nature of ki draining stamina and energy, Dragon Ball characters ki usage requires them to usually use their higher levels of energy in short bursts, using a large amount of ki overtime can greatly weaken them to the point that characters far lower then them can actually harm them with attacks[157]. Taking large amounts of damage can greatly deplete a ki users attacks, making it where attacks that would otherwise kill massively weakened characters, only pushes them back[158]. Ki users cannot put all of their ki and strength into an attack if parts of their body are broken/injured[159][160], they also lose half of their chi if something like one of their arms are badly injured or broken[161].Ki users that are able to ki sense cannot do it when their guard is dropped, such as when Vegeta was able to sneak attack Son Goku during the end of their fight in the Buu Saga[162]. Despite some ki users being able to reach blasts that can destroy planets through charged attacks or techniques[163][164][165][166], they have not shown to be able to tank such blasts themselves[167][168][169], with attacks that have[170] destroyed several[171] planets in the series[172] always killing the character. Even characters such as Majin Buu's body cannot withstand the energy of a planet exploding[173]. Using ki volley attacks come with the caveat of their aim being rather poor, making it harder to hit moving targets. If ki users are at all possessed, even by accident, their true self will be sleeping within, with the possessor needing to awaken them[174]. Even if awoken, they are immobilized and unable to move without the possessor giving them the ability to[175], even with them wanting to wake up, they cannot do it[176]. Specific waves can can suppress a ki users power, and put their consciousness to sleep[177]. If Ki users stamina is broken, they will unable to be able to continue fighting for a short while, this will also cancel out any ki attack they were attempting to use, including ultimate's[178], this also adds on that ki users guards are down while charging ultimate attacks. Their stamina can also be broken if a character moves far too fast and surprise attacks them while they're charging their ki[179]. Ki Users can also be grabbed out of charging their attacks[180]. When ki users radiate their Ki at its highest, their body is also freed the most, making them open to attacks and making them easy to possess[181].
- Turtle Hermit Style Weaknesses: As the style does not incorporate any real fighting techniques[182], it has a heavy reliance on durability[183], stamina[184], muscles and speed[185], along with agility[186], thus anyone with superior statistics then them can easily overpower this style[187], along with this any character capable of using attacks that bypass defense altogether such as pressure point strikes can easily overcome a turtle hermit style user, even if they use extra forms and techniques to heighten their defenses[188]. Thus anyone with techniques that ignore statistics or are simply higher in statistics than a Turtle Hermit Style user can easily overcome this style.
- Unique Weaknesses: Yamcha used to have a horrible fear of women that would immediately paralyze him upon seeing, although he’s since gotten over it. However, he maintains a certain overconfidence against enemies he views as weaker, which can lead to his eventual loss.
Note
- Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up[189].
- The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.

Q: What about the planetary feats in Dragon Ball?
A: Planetary feats are normally done through their strongest charged blast, where they can gather ki to shoot out blast far beyond what the character is normally capable of[190], with blasts capable of[191] seriously damaging/destroying[192] the Earth along with completely obliterating the opponent[193], though they themselves are never capable of leaving this unscathed.
Frieza throws a destroy the planet death ball attack but it doesn't destroy the planet. Goku then interestingly notes the reason the planet didn't blow up is because Frieza was too scared of getting caught in the blast[194] . Vegeta's final flash is noted it's going to destroy the planet and Perfect Cell, who is beyond Vegeta, couldn't tank the blast and had to dodge it last second or it would've killed him[195]. Goku's kamehameha was going to destroy the earth and Cell cannot tank this blast, needing to regenerate[196]. Semi-Perfect Cell explosion was consistently noted it was going to destroy the planet and Gohan and it killed Goku[197]. Ultimate Gohan dies to an attack that destroys the earth, his guard was up too since this was when he was fighting Super Buu[198]. Kid Buu shoots a blast trying to destroy the planet, with Vegeta noting he's going to take himself out with it if he lets it off[199]. In Dragon Ball GT, Great Ape Baby Vegeta shoots a super galick gun that he claims will destroy Earth, when Goku is hit by it, he is knocked out to the point that he can't move for a good while, Elder Kai and Shin later state that Baby is going to shoot another blast that will destroy the planet on, greatly injuring Baby if he's caught in the Blast and will kill everyone on the planet if done[200]. Frieza destroyed the entire earth, killing Vegeta in the process[201]. In the Dragon Ball Super Manga, Gohan tells Goku that he doesn't need to hold anything back and can go all out because anything that happens to the Earth can be restored with Dende and the Dragon Balls. Yet, none of Goku's all out attacks destroy the planet but just heavily causes shockwaves around it[202]. Semi-Perfect Cell unleashes a several blast that destroys several islands Android 16 notes that the attacks are just strong enough to not kill Android 18[203].
In the fight of Trunks vs. Mecha Frieza, who is far stronger than his final form, Mecha Frieza immediately goes for his strongest attack, the Supernova. In the original Z anime King Kai even states this is ten times stronger than the power he used on Namek:
- DBZ Kai Version[204].
- Original DBZ Anime Version[205]. The attack is directly noted that it could destroy the planet, but doesn't because Trunks catches it, when Mecha Frieza proceeds to detonate it, the explosion is massive but the planet is still intact, implying Frieza must target the core in order to destroy the planet.
