Background

Raditz, also known as "Raditz the Runt", is a low-class Saiyan warrior, the biological brother of Son Goku and the eldest son of Bardock. He is one of the few remaining full-blooded Saiyans left alive after his homeworld was destroyed. He seeks out Goku in order to recruit him into the Frieza Force to aid in conquering planets. In Fateful Brothers, a what-if, Raditz is injured from a malfunctioning Saibamen's self-destruction, making him lose his memory.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Raditz’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

The storyline is set when Raditz first found Piccolo during "The New Threat", and instead of remaining unharmed from Piccolo's Explosive Demon Wave, Raditz is injured pretty badly from this. At his injury, Raditz summoned a Saibaman to help him defeat Piccolo, but when both were defeated, the Saibaman malfunctioned and self-destructed on Raditz. The explosion left Raditz unconscious and ended up giving him amnesia, similar to Goku before the events of Dragon Ball. Raditz wandered the Earth for a while until he reached Kame House, where he meets Goku, Krillin, Gohan and Master Roshi. Piccolo arrives moments later and frightens Raditz. Since Piccolo is still a villain, Goku battles him alongside Raditz and defeat him. After Piccolo takes off, Goku decides that Raditz may stay and recover his wounds at Kame House. Just after Goku and Raditz's first rigorous training session, Piccolo appears, looking for revenge. At first Raditz is spooked pretty bad, but Goku assures him that he can now defend himself. Raditz gains confidence from Goku's soothing words, and fights Piccolo, defeating him. In his excitement Raditz calls Goku Kakarot, when Raditz proceeds to end Piccolo's life, Goku orders Raditz to stop, explaining to him that there is no point in killing him as he would be no better as he is. Raditz sees the errors of his dark thoughts, and lets Piccolo live, similar to how Goku let Piccolo live during the Piccolo Jr. Saga in the Dragon Ball manga and anime. Months passed and Raditz learned about the Dragon Balls. He still had not recovered from his amnesia, however until one day, when he was out training with his nephew, Gohan observed that the both of them had a tail and stated that they were "the same". That simple statement seemed to snap Raditz out of his amnesia and made him remember everything. He remembered what he was sent to Earth to do; get his brother 'Kakarot' and tell him about his mission on Earth. Raditz then leaves to find Kakarot. Having located Kakarot (Goku), Raditz reveals to him the whole truth. Goku could not accept what he was being told and that he had to kill innocent people, so Raditz had no other choice but to fight him and Goku was defeated, but Raditz was unable to finish him off for some reason. Goku tries to convince Raditz that killing the innocent is wrong, Raditz however, refuses to give up his pride that easily, and with nothing more to say to his brother, he takes his leave. Raditz, alone at a desolate mountainous area, is tormented by the compassion taking root in his heart, when he asks his deceased father for help, his scouter picks up a message from Vegeta, that he and Nappa are coming to Earth to find and gather the seven magic Dragon Balls. While Raditz is still in shock from Vegeta's message, Piccolo appears again, who's looking to finally get his revenge at Raditz, they battle, with Raditz winning the fight. Raditz realized he could not find it in himself to kill Piccolo either, hiding that fact by claiming that Piccolo was too weak for him to fight, to which Piccolo replied that being with Goku had caused him to go soft. Raditz tells Piccolo that if he can't even defeat him, he won't stand a chance against 'them'. Raditz then informs Piccolo of Vegeta and Nappa's impending arrival on Earth, and his true motives for being on Earth as well, giving the word, Raditz left. After that, Raditz began to carry out his mission, raining down destruction upon the Earth. During his rampage, he was confronted by Goku, Krillin and Gohan with Piccolo joining in, claiming that he would join forces with the Dragon Team just to defeat Raditz. Raditz defeated Krillin and left Piccolo and Goku heavily injured, taking a large amount of damage himself. With no choice, Raditz took Gohan as hostage and hid on an remote island, where he explained to Gohan why he is the way he is. Raditz said that he is a Saiyan and 'being mean' as Gohan described him, was just the way Saiyans are. At this very moment Goku sensed Raditz's Ki, and appeared in front of him, to do one final battle. Fueled by his rage, Goku crushed Raditz, and Raditz then finally realized what true strength was, and that he used to think that power was everything but learned that caring for the weak and fighting to protect something was what really brought strength. Raditz lost consciousness where he recalled the warm memories he had with his family and in his dream, he apologized to his father, Bardock, feeling he was not qualified to be a Saiyan anymore. Bardock appeared, and claimed he does not care, Raditz still is his son. And while it was still a dream, they ended up having a match, as a gift from father to son. That was the last time Raditz dreamed of his father. After that, Bardock's face appeared only in nightmares. After Raditz regains consciousness, he tells Goku that the Saiyans served "a more terrible monster" than their Prince. He tells him, for the sake of their family, to defend the pride of the Saiyan race. Without another word, Raditz summons his space pod and departed from the Earth. His ship collided with the ones carrying Vegeta and Nappa, and vanished in a dazzling flash of light. Perhaps this was the last expression of the love Raditz felt for his younger brother. Only Raditz knows for sure...

• Attack Ball: This round Saiyan space pod only has room for one person, which Raditz used to travel from planet to planet; notably, he used this space pod to travel to Earth, and locked Gohan inside it during his fight with Piccolo and Goku.

• Saiyan Armor: Due to being a part of the Saiyan Army and Frieza Force, Raditz has Saiyan Armor. This armor is unbelievably durable, but also incredibly stretchy; the armor can stretch so much that it fits around Saiyans when they turn into a Great Ape.
• Scouter: Technology developed by the Tuffle race, but adopted by the Saiyans after the Tuffles were wiped out. This advanced piece of technology can detect the presence of life forms, calculate anyone’s battle power, and can also be used for telecommunication.

Notable Techniques

• Flight: With a mastery of Ki control, Raditz is able to fly at incredibly high speeds.
• Ki Blast: Using Ki, Raditz can concentrate it into a ball that he uses as a projectile attack.
• Behind You!: This is a tactic Raditz uses, where he faces away from an opponent as they attack and then surprises them with a kick to the face.
• Saturday Crush: Raditz holds up his right hand and draws ki into his palm, before swinging his arm forwards and launching a large pink ki ball at his opponents, which explodes on contact.
• Shining Friday: Similar to the previous attack, Raditz charges a purple ki blast and fires it at short range.
• Double Sunday: Raditz raises both of his arms above his head and then angles them downward at either side of himself, shooting two large ki beams. Optimal for attacking two opponents at once.
• Heavy Finish: The user attacks with a powerful punch, elbow, kick, or knee that hits the opponent in the stomach. This will leave the opponent damaged and briefly stunned, allowing the user to launch further assaults against the stunned opponent. The attack can also be launched in the back of the opponent, inflicting even more damage, and will then also stun the opponent for a longer period of time. Some versions not only land a blow to the stomach, but even go as far as to penetrate it.
• I'm A Top-class Warrior!: Raditz quickly charges past the opponent as he says, "Death is near!" and elbows them from behind onto the ground, inflicting great damage.
• Begone!: Raditz raises his hand up in the air and creates a small blue and white energy sphere. Then, he fires it at his opponent in the form of a large energy wave, inflicting a great amount of damage.
  • Double Sunday: Raditz raises both of his arms up and charges two purple energy spheres. He then brings his hands forward and fires the energy spheres in the form of two energy waves at the opponent, inflicting a great amount of damage.
• Afterimage: An ability to move so swiftly that an image of the user is left behind.

• Great Ape: While Raditz has never transformed into a Great Ape in the manga/anime, he has a tail and, by extension, the ability to turn into one, which is shown in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle, and Super Dragon Ball Heroes. While transformed, Raditz has no mental control like a common low class Saiyan soldier. Raditz keeps his long hair in this form.

Standard Tactics: Raditz will incoproate hand to hand combat along with ki attacks, when the enemy is too strong, he incorporates using his attack ball to collide into them.

Weaknesses

• Standard Ki Weaknesses: Ki users that do not have sufficient training over their emotions put their power within a mental lock, with changes to their emotions can seriously limiting their powers or making them uncontrollable. Their emotions can also have them instinctively block using the full power of their attacks out of fear of the destruction along with lack of confidence in themselves.Ki users can only sense targets moving at super speed through feeling their chi, with them becoming so accustomed to tracking energy that they've lost their eyes for movement. Ki users can get hit by off guard attacks from characters far slower then them. If ki users are paralyzed or their nerves are numb, they can be killed by much weaker attacks. If a Ki user is inflicted with any kind of status, disease, or poison, powering up or transforming will put further strain on the body and can speed up the process of poison. Users of Ki Sensing cannot sense beings that invisible, even if the character is in front of them attacking them, they have a hard time countering them due to being invisible. Users of Ki Sensing also have a harder time sensing the true being using illusions, requiring them to focus in on energy fields to see who is moving and who is casting the illusion. Due to the nature of ki draining stamina and energy, Dragon Ball characters ki usage requires them to usually use their higher levels of energy in short bursts, using a large amount of ki overtime can greatly weaken them to the point that characters far lower then them can actually harm them with attacks. Taking large amounts of damage can greatly deplete a ki users attacks, making it where attacks that would otherwise kill massively weakened characters, only pushes them back. Ki users cannot put all of their ki and strength into an attack if parts of their body are broken/injured, they also lose half of their chi if something like one of their arms are badly injured or broken.Ki users that are able to ki sense cannot do it when their guard is dropped, such as when Vegeta was able to sneak attack Son Goku during the end of their fight in the Buu Saga. Despite some ki users being able to reach blasts that can destroy planets through charged attacks or techniques, they have not shown to be able to tank such blasts themselves, with attacks that have destroyed several planets in the series always killing the character. Even characters such as Majin Buu's body cannot withstand the energy of a planet exploding. Using ki volley attacks come with the caveat of their aim being rather poor, making it harder to hit moving targets. If ki users are at all possessed, even by accident, their true self will be sleeping within, with the possessor needing to awaken them. Even if awoken, they are immobilized and unable to move without the possessor giving them the ability to, even with them wanting to wake up, they cannot do it. Specific waves can can suppress a ki users power, and put their consciousness to sleep. If Ki users stamina is broken, they will unable to be able to continue fighting for a short while, this will also cancel out any ki attack they were attempting to use, including ultimate's, this also adds on that ki users guards are down while charging ultimate attacks. Yet, none of Goku's all out attacks destroy the planet but just heavily causes shockwaves around it. Semi-Perfect Cell unleashes a several blast that destroys several islands Android 16 notes that the attacks are just strong enough to not kill Android 18.

In the fight of Trunks vs. Mecha Frieza, who is far stronger than his final form, Mecha Frieza immediately goes for his strongest attack, the Supernova. In the original Z anime King Kai even states this is ten times stronger than the power he used on Namek:
