Dave is a supporting protagonist of Pokemon Dusk and serves as the main protagonist of the prequel Pokemon Dusk Chronicles: Dave. He is a survivor in Goldenrod City during an outbreak that tries to find people and get them to his safehouse.

Linda
Linda was Dave's girlfriend, he asked her to move together with him. They decided to move to Goldenrod City together where the zombie apocalypse happened. Linda was bitten and Dave was not strong enough to take her life so he tied her up in his room.
At the end of Pokemon Dusk Chronicles: Dave he lets her out to give him the motivation to kill her but he just can't. Until Ethan shows up to the girl and he has to save him.
Dave's first meeting with Ethan is shooting a zombie in front of him before Ethan knew about the infection.
While starting off rocky they overtime form a friendship due to Ethan constantly helping out the group and being the reason they're still alive.
When Whitney gives them a key to leave Goldenrod, Dave argues for them to not leave as they should wait for Ethan and is the only one to state he won't leave until Ethan gets back.

Explanations
The Infection
The infection is a disease that spread across Johto due to the incompetence of Team Rocket.
The infection was caused by an artifact which Team Rocket stole[3]. Team Rocket read the text saying "The power to make everyone weak-willed and dangerous" and interpreted this as they would be able to mind control people[3].
Team Rocket raided the Goldenrod City Radio Tower to link up the artifact to the radio tower and spread its waves across all of Johto[3].
These effects started reviving recently deceased humans and Pokemon[3].
It's noted by Professor Elm that every single person and Pokemon in the country is infected regardless of whether they were bitten or not, so if they die they will turn into a zombie[3].
Trivia
- Dave is an original character and has no connection to any canon characters from the Pokemon universe. He and Elias are the only two protagonist with this fact.
