Background

Chang Wufei is a main protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, and is a supporting character in their sequel story, New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Frozen Teardrop. He is one of the five main heroes of the After Colony and Mars Century timelines of the Gundam series.

Wufei was a fierce boy and heir to the Long Clan, a clan which had been feared and thus exalted to a far-off Colony long ago. While only a boy, Wufei was wed to a woman named Meiran, who also went by the name "Nataku." After an attack on their colony killed Meiran while she protected her husband, Wufei decided to become a Gundam pilot.

Determined to carry out an attack on Earth, Wufei would come to be the pilot of to mobile suits; Gundam Shenlong and Gundam Altron, both of which he nicknamed "Nataku" out of respect for his late wife. Although an extremely gifted pilot, Wufei would constantly question his worthiness towards piloting the Gundam suits.

Wufei is a member of the G Team, alongside Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner. Much like the other members, excluding Heero, Wufei eventually decided to discard his Gundam suit and retire as a pilot. He would eventually become the head of the Mars Preventer base, and would be the one to awaken Heero Yuy to his cryogenic sleep.
