*''Contra ReBirth'' is canon to the series. This is contrary to multiple, multiple online sources online that will proudly state otherwise, [https://thecodex.wiki/File:ContraTimeline_English.png all sourced from the officially-printed ''The History of Contra'' e-book, which claims that ''Contra ReBirth'' takes place in an alternate timeline with a non-canonical version of Bill Rizer]. Unfortunately, this is an extremely unfaithful and dishonest translation that takes a lot of its own liberties. [https://thecodex.wiki/File:ContraTimeline_Japanese.png In the original Japanese version, Contra ReBirth is simply called a "Gaiden", or side-story], and doesn't at all attempt to remove it from canon.
Being an elite commando of the Special Forces takes a special breed of hero. You need the cunning of a lion, the spirit of a Viking warrior, and the intelligence of a modern day field general. Only after these qualities are soaked into your soul can you stand a ghost of a chance saving humanity from the inhumane Red Falcon.
Bill Rizer is the main protagonist of the Contra series.

The field leader of the Contra unit. Major Bill Rizer hails from a family with a long military history, and possesses exceptional physical strength, agility, and mental fortitude. Graduate of the Earth Marine Academy, he is proficient in all manner of armaments and well-versed in military science.[1]
On September 12th, 2631, a meteor crashed into the Galuga archipelago off the coast of New Zealand. Many months[2] to two years later[3], the archipelago was occupied by hostile aliens known as the Red Falcon, whose sole mission is to exterminate humankind. To combat this, the Earth Marine Headquarters dispatched Bill Rizer and Lance Bean with one mission: destroy the Red Falcon base.
