Background

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (ジ ョ ジ ョ の 奇妙 な 冒 険, Jojo no Kimyō na Bōken) is a shōnen and seinen manga written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. It currently has eight Parts and two different timelines. Within them, various members of the Joestar family (always being capable of being nicknamed JoJo) embark on bizarre journeys in different time periods.

JoJo was serialized by Weekly Shonen Jump from 1987 to 2004, where he was transferred to Ultra Jump, a monthly magazine with thematic of the genre seinen from the same publisher (Shueisha).

The series has sold over 80 million volumes in Japan alone. And it is one of Weekly Shonen Jump's best-selling series (Phantom Blood to Stone Ocean). With a total of 100 volumes, it is the company's second largest manga.

The manga has themes like Action, Adventure, Supernatural, Suspense, Horror and Comedy. Being best known for the Stand phenomenon, introduced in Part 3 - Stardust Crusaders, along with its two main characters, the protagonist: Jotaro Kujo, and the villain: Dio Brando.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is also known for its numerous references to music. Many characters and stands have their names based on rock stars or singers. Example: DIO, AC / DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, among others.

Part 1: The story follows Jonathan Joestar as he matures with, and eventually combats, his adoptive brother: the cunning and merciless Dio Brando.

Part 2: Taking place in 1938-39, the story follows the misadventures of Joseph Joestar, grandson of Jonathan, as he masters his innate Ripple abilities in order to combat hostile, ancient super-beings named the Pillar Men, creators of the Stone Mask that plot to become the ultimate lifeforms.

Part 3: From 1988 to 1989, the story follows Jotaro Kujo and his friends as they journey from Tokyo to Cairo to save his mother's life by defeating his family's resurrected archenemy, DIO.

Part 4: In 1999, the Arrow, manifesting latent Stand abilities, travels throughout Morioh, Japan; as high schooler Josuke Higashikata (illegitimate son of Joseph) and his friends seek out the culprits of a series of homicides.

Part 5: Set in 2001 Italy, the story follows Giorno Giovanna and his dream to rise within the Neapolitan mafia and defeat the boss of Passione, the most powerful and influential gang, in order to become a "Gang-Star". With the aid of a capo and his men, and fueled by his own resolve, Giorno sets out to fulfill his goal of absolving the mafia of its corruption.

Part 6: In 2011, Florida; Jolyne Cujoh, daughter of Jotaro, is wrongfully accused of a crime she didn't commit and sent to a maximum security prison. While imprisoned, she struggles within a longstanding plot agreed between dead villain DIO and ideologue Enrico Pucci.

Part 7: Set in the U.S. in 1890, the story follows Johnny Joestar, a paraplegic ex-jockey, and Gyro Zeppeli, master in a mystic art named the Spin, as they compete with a vast number of others in the Steel Ball Run race: a mad-dash across America for a grand prize of 50 million dollars.

Part 8: The story begins in 2011 and follows Josuke Higashikata, a young man afflicted by retrograde amnesia, in his search to uncover his identity in Morioh Town, a coastal Japanese town affected by the Tohoku earthquake. However, his digging pulls him and his adoptive family into the unfinished business between his previous life and an impending inhuman threat.

Power of the Verse

The majority of JoJo characters from both timelines have strength around Wall level with some Stands and artifacts even being far higher in power with their abilities. Most characters from both timelines have with Supersonic speeds. Some characters also relies purely on Hax to use their abilities, and thus doesn't possess a specified value for their strength physically.

Some abilities of the verse includes: Extrasensory Perception, Aura, Reactive Adaptation, Biological Manipulation, Non-Physical Interaction, Non-Corporeal, Soul Manipulation, Spatial Manipulation, Time Manipulation, Precognition, Transmutation, Power Nullification, Durability Negation, Absolute Zero, Information Manipulation, etc.

The top tiers are Universe level with Instantaneous Speed and hax like Plot Manipulation, Acausality, Fate Manipulation, Causality Manipulation, Willpower Manipulation, etc.

Scaling

The most of the Hamon Users and Stands from the original timeline scales to fodder vampires, William A. Zeppeli, Jack the Ripper, Dio Brando, Star Platinum, Crazy Diamond, Golden Experience, and Stone Free who all have various 9-B feats. Top tier Stands from JoJolion scale to Soft & Wet who also has various 9-B feats. Along with this various Hamon users and Stands are able to fight on par with each other in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven which features alternate continuity with a similar history to the original characters of old and the new timeline characters allowing them scale to each other.
