Background

Burter is the fastest member of the mercenary platoon known as the Ginyu Force. Being nicknamed the "Blue Hurricane", he often performs combo attacks with Jeice, such as the Purple Comet Hurricane. He is very arrogant, boastful, and tends to talk down to his opponents.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Burter’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Like the other members of the Ginyu Force, Burter's special powers originated during his childhood: Burter's mother was very strict, making him do all the household chores and slapping him if he was late preparing dinner; because of this, he became the fastest in the universe. He soon became a member of Frieza's elite mercenary platoon, the Ginyu Force: Burter is the self-proclaimed "Azure Typhoon" (or "Blue Hurricane", in the Dragon Ball manga and video games), and fancies himself as the fastest being in the universe. He demonstrates this on Namek when effortlessly taking flight at incredible speed to retrieve a Dragon Ball thrown across the horizon by Vegeta, an attempt to keep the artifact from Frieza's possession. Frieza Saga After Frieza calls the Ginyu Force for support, Burter and the rest of his team find Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan trying to grant Vegeta's wish of immortality. Burter gets to show his amazing speed when Vegeta throws one of the Dragons Balls as hard as he could, but Burter manages to fly, catch it and return in a matter of seconds, shocking Vegeta greatly. Just before Ginyu takes all the Dragon Balls to Frieza's Spaceship, Burter and the rest of his crew decide who gets to kill whom. Along with Jeice, after losing a Rock-Paper-Scissors match, Burter is a spectator to the fight between Recoome, Vegeta, Krillin and Gohan, and it is not until Goku arrives and single-handedly incapacitates Recoome that he joins combat. Burter and Jeice spray Goku with countless physical attacks and energy waves, but Goku proves to be fast enough to avoid the efforts of both elites. Eventually, after realizing that attacking Goku head on is not working, Burter and Jeice communicate from far distances using their scouters to come up with a plan: Jeice will fire his ultimate attack, the Crusher Ball, and when Goku dodges the attack, Burter will attack the distracted Goku. Unfortunately for them, the plan fails as Goku easily deflects the Crusher Ball with no effort. Goku then defeats Burter with two crippling blows to the back. Shortly after, in spite of Goku's wishes to give the Ginyu Force member a chance to redeem his selfish ways, Vegeta ruthlessly finishes the unconscious Burter by dropping his knee on Burter's neck, breaking it and killing Burter instantly.

Equipment

• Attack Ball: Like his fellow Ginyu Force members, Burter uses an Attack Ball featuring the Ginyu Force symbol to travel between planets. According to Vegeta in the Trunks Saga, the Ginyu Force Attack Balls were programmed to fly back to Yardrat as the Ginyu Force was in the middle of attacking it when Frieza summoned the Ginyu Force to Namek. It was either destroyed or used by Goku to escape Dying Namek (as the owner of the Attack Ball Goku used was never identified as it was only revealed it belonged to one of the Ginyu Force members).
• Scouter: Like most members of the Frieza Force, Burter wears a scouter which he uses to read power levels and for communications. However like most of the Frieza Force he tends to rely too much on Scouter readings as he was confused by Goku's low power level being inconsistent with his abilities unaware that Goku was raising his power so instantaneously that the Ginyu Force's state-of-the-art Scouters could not detect the momentary increase. In Xenoverse 2, it is revealed he uses New Model Scouter (Green) just like the rest of his teammates (save for Guldo).
• Weighted Clothing: In the Frieza's Spaceship time rift in Xenoverse 2, Burter reveals to the Future Warrior that he added heavy weights to his Battle Suit (Ginyu Force Black) for weighted training which is how he trains to maintain his speed.

Weaknesses

• Standard Ki Weaknesses: Ki users that do not have sufficient training over their emotions put their power within a mental lock, with changes to their emotions can seriously limiting their powers or making them uncontrollable. Their emotions can also have them instinctively block using the full power of their attacks out of fear of the destruction along with lack of confidence in themselves.Ki users can only sense targets moving at super speed through feeling their chi, with them becoming so accustomed to tracking energy that they've lost their eyes for movement. Ki users can get hit by off guard attacks from characters far slower then them. If ki users are paralyzed or their nerves are numb, they can be killed by much weaker attacks. If a Ki user is inflicted with any kind of status, disease, or poison, powering up or transforming will put further strain on the body and can speed up the process of poison. Users of Ki Sensing cannot sense beings that invisible, even if the character is in front of them attacking them, they have a hard time countering them due to being invisible. Users of Ki Sensing also have a harder time sensing the true being using illusions, requiring them to focus in on energy fields to see who is moving and who is casting the illusion. Due to the nature of ki draining stamina and energy, Dragon Ball characters ki usage requires them to usually use their higher levels of energy in short bursts, using a large amount of ki overtime can greatly weaken them to the point that characters far lower then them can actually harm them with attacks. Taking large amounts of damage can greatly deplete a ki users attacks, making it where attacks that would otherwise kill massively weakened characters, only pushes them back. Ki users cannot put all of their ki and strength into an attack if parts of their body are broken/injured, they also lose half of their chi if something like one of their arms are badly injured or broken.Ki users that are able to ki sense cannot do it when their guard is dropped, such as when Vegeta was able to sneak attack Son Goku during the end of their fight in the Buu Saga. Despite some ki users being able to reach blasts that can destroy planets through charged attacks or techniques, they have not shown to be able to tank such blasts themselves, with attacks that have destroyed several planets in the series always killing the character. Even characters such as Majin Buu's body cannot withstand the energy of a planet exploding. Using ki volley attacks come with the caveat of their aim being rather poor, making it harder to hit moving targets. If ki users are at all possessed, even by accident, their true self will be sleeping within, with the possessor needing to awaken them. Even if awoken, they are immobilized and unable to move without the possessor giving them the ability to, even with them wanting to wake up, they cannot do it. Specific waves can can suppress a ki users power, and put their consciousness to sleep. If Ki users stamina is broken, they will unable to be able to continue fighting for a short while, this will also cancel out any ki attack they were attempting to use, including ultimate's, this also adds on that ki users guards are down while charging ultimate attacks. Their stamina can also be broken if a character moves far too fast and surprise attacks them while they're charging their ki. Ki Users can also be grabbed out of charging their attacks. When ki users radiate their Ki at its highest, their body is also freed the most, making them open to attacks and making them easy to possess. Ki attacks can be blocked by magma based attacks, such as even when Vegeta's strongest charged blast, the final flash, was being blocked by Magetta's magma. Ki users have far lower reactions and speeds when they do not have their ki up or are not on guard, such as when Mai's sniper would've hit Goku Black if she didn't miss.

Note

• Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up.
• The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.

• Burter's Japanese name, Bāta, is off from the word Butter rearranged; he is called Butta (in Viz's manga), or Burta to reflect the name pun.

A Burter-esque fighter

• There is a fighter who resembles Burter who appears on Grand Kai's Planet in the episode "Warriors of the Dead". This fighter's clothes and facial features imply that he was based on the same Settei / Chara Sheet as Moah.
  • Another fighter that resembles Burter appears in "Vegeta's Respect" when watching the fight between Goku and Kid Buu. However, this fighter has an albino appearance and horns.

Burter stands taller than the rest of the Ginyu Force

• Though Burter is clearly the largest member of the Ginyu Force in the manga/anime, it is often shown in merchandise that he is the same size or smaller than Recoome.
• Burter is capable of dealing out the longest combo in Budokai Tenkaichi 2 if he is given max power plus and has his speed maxed out.
• When Omega Shenron uses the Dragon Thunder technique against Burter in Budokai Tenkaichi 3, he will lie on top of the spikes, instead of being impaled on them.
• Burter is the first person in the series to refer to himself as the Fastest in the Universe, the second being Beerus' attendant Whis in Dragon Ball Super. However, in Burter's case, it is proven false as he is completely outclassed by Goku and it is likely that Frieza's speed is superior as well given his power and his race's superior speed that increases when near death. Also since Whis (who is even stronger than Beerus himself) has likely existed before Burter was even born, Burter's claims amount to at best, a falsely held belief (or at the worse, arrogant boasting) that he is the Fastest in the Universe.
  • In Xenoverse 2, Whis demonstrates that his claim is valid as he is able to use his superior speed to playfully draw his mark on Beerus' forehead without the God of Destruction noticing until it was pointed out to him. This indicates that Whis truly is as fast as he claims.
• In World Mission, Burter is shown to have a rivalry with Neiz over who is the fastest. Due to an anomaly, he encounters Neiz and Dyspo of the Pride Troopers leading to an argument between the three of them as to who the fastest among them.
• Burter is the only member of the Ginyu Force that doesn't appear in Dragon Ball GT at any point.

In Dragon Ball GT, Great Ape Baby Vegeta shoots a super galick gun that he claims will destroy Earth, when Goku is hit by it, he is knocked out to the point that he can't move for a good while, Elder Kai and Shin later state that Baby is going to shoot another blast that will destroy the planet on, greatly injuring Baby if he's caught in the Blast and will kill everyone on the planet if done. Frieza destroyed the entire earth, killing Vegeta in the process. In the Dragon Ball Super Manga, Gohan tells Goku that he doesn't need to hold anything back and can go all out because anything that happens to the Earth can be restored with Dende and the Dragon Balls. Yet, none of Goku's all out attacks destroy the planet but just heavily causes shockwaves around it. Semi-Perfect Cell unleashes a several blast that destroys several islands Android 16 notes that the attacks are just strong enough to not kill Android 18.

In the fight of Trunks vs. Mecha Frieza, who is far stronger than his final form, Mecha Frieza immediately goes for his strongest attack, the Supernova. In the original Z anime King Kai even states this is ten times stronger than the power he used on Namek:

• DBZ Kai Version.
• Original DBZ Anime Version. The attack is directly noted that it could destroy the planet, but doesn't because Trunks catches it, when Mecha Frieza proceeds to detonate it, the explosion is massive but the planet is still intact, implying Frieza must target the core in order to destroy the planet.
