| ~ Goten to Trunks in "The World Tournament" |
Background
Son Goten is the youngest son of the legendary martial artist, Son Goku and the Ox Princess, Chi-Chi and the younger brother to Son Gohan. Born directly following the defeat of Cell, Goten was raised solely by his mother during peacetime, and thus didn’t experience much fighting.
Nonetheless, Goten was still born a prodigy, becoming the youngest Super Saiyan of all time, at only 7 years old during his first transformation. He and his best friend, Trunks, were born with such natural power levels, that they shocked most of their family members.
Eventually, Goten would become crucial in the fight against Majin Buu, as he learned the Fusion Dance and, alongside Trunks, could become the extremely powerful Gotenks.

Great Saiyaman Saga
World Tournament Saga
With the two boys wanting more of a challenge, they disguise themselves and enter the Adult Division, as Mighty Mask. After Gohan is attacked, and the Dragon Team pursues the attackers, Goten and Trunks fight Android 18 and Mr. Satan in a battle royale. During the fight Goten and Trunks transform into Super Saiyan and Android 18 quickly realizes what is going on. They are disqualified when Android 18 exposes them by destroying their costume. Majin Buu Saga
Goten and Trunks fly toward Babidi's Spaceship, and, upon arrival, see that Piccolo and Krillin have been turned to stone by Dabura. Trunks accidentally breaks Piccolo's statue, and is afraid he might have killed him, but Piccolo regenerates himself when Dabura is killed by Majin Buu and he reverts from his stone form, along with Krillin. With Gohan and Goku knocked out, Vegeta arrives to fight Majin Buu, only to be severely beaten by the monster. After saving Vegeta, Goten and Trunks attempt to fight alongside Vegeta, but he knocks the boys' unconscious, knowing that Majin Buu is too strong for them to help him. He then blows himself up, hoping that will finish him, but fails, as Majin Buu regenerates himself. Goten is taken to The Lookout to take refuge from Majin Buu's assault on the world. Babidi makes an announcement to the world to tell that Piccolo, Trunks, and Goten must be found for their interference in the fight with Majin Vegeta earlier, as well as for Piccolo slaughtering Babidi. The boys wake up and attack Mr. Popo. Goku stops them and tells them that Vegeta and Gohan are dead, making the boys cry. Goten angrily blames Goku for Gohan's death (unaware that Gohan is actually alive) but is convinced to cooperate to defeat Majin Buu and avenge his brother. Goku teaches them the fusion technique with the remainder of time he has left on earth. Babidi tells the world that he is going to West City to blow it up. Trunks rushes to the Capsule Corporation to get the Dragon Radar. Goku intercepts Babidi and Buu to give Trunks time to get to Capsule Corporation, Goku shows them Super Saiyan 3 and starts to fight Majin Buu. Trunks got the radar and Goku returned to the Lookout. Goku teaches the boys the fusion technique and shows them Super Saiyan 3. Fortuneteller Baba tells Goku his time is up (his time was shortened due to his Super Saiyan 3 transformation) and leaves the rest to Piccolo. Goten hugs his father one more time as he promises to take care of Chi-Chi before going back to Other World. A day later, with Goku in Other World, Piccolo teaches the boys the rest of the Fusion Dance. After two days, Goten and Trunks are ready to fight Majin Buu. Goten then watches as Super Buu turns his mother into an egg and crushes her, angering Goten and thus prompting him to train as hard as he can after Piccolo informs Goten that they will bring his mother back to life with the Dragon Balls. They fuse and create the warrior Gotenks, who fights Majin Buu twice, almost defeating him. Before he can make a move, Gotenks is absorbed by Super Buu along with Piccolo after Gohan arrives from the Sacred World of the Kai to assist the boys. Goten is saved along with Piccolo, Trunks, and Gohan by Goku and the deceased Vegeta, by forming Vegito and making Buu absorb him. Goten dies along with Trunks, Gohan, Piccolo, and the other survivors when Kid Buu blows up the Earth, but he is brought back to life along with the others killed by Buu with the Namekian Dragon Balls. Goten, Trunks, Gohan, and Piccolo are then seen contributing to Goku's Super Spirit Bomb. He reunites with Goku once again, with everyone else on Kami's Lookout, after Goku had killed Kid Buu with the Super Spirit Bomb and embraces his father. He and the others briefly prepare for a fight when the good fat Buu is revealed to have come along only to stop. He watches as his parents reunite and hug each other after Goku tells Chi-Chi he wants to live with her and their kids as a family of four now Goku has been brought back to life again by Old Kai. God of Destruction Beerus Saga
They find the hot spring and encounter a giant snake. At one point, Goten was furious to the point he begins to use the Kamehameha, but Trunks told him not to because nearby old people were in the hot spring. The snake hits the jar with the water, but Trunks eventually sends it slithering away. Goten and Trunks arrive at Gohan and Videl's new house to bring Videl her wedding present which she rubs on her face and thanks them for it even though she realizes that it is just regular spring water. At the end of the day as the sun is setting, Goten comes back to the farm where Goku is working. Goten tells Goku about his day with Trunks and Goku is proud of them. Mr. Satan arrives and offers Goku 100 million Zeni for defeating Kid Buu. Goku starts to deny the money because of the vast amount of it until Goten reminds Goku that if he gave the money to Chi-Chi, he could go and freely train on King Kai's planet. After taking Goten's advice, Goku takes the money. Goten is at Bulma's birthday party on the Princess Bulma cruise ship, with the others. When Beerus is enraged because Good Buu ate all of the pudding, he fights him, and blasts him into the ocean. Goten and Trunks fuse into Gotenks, to fight Beerus, but Gotenks is easily defeated by a tap on the forearm. In the manga, Gotenks goes Super Saiyan 3 and is blasted into the ocean. Later, Goten and Trunks both go Super Saiyan for the ritual to make Goku a Super Saiyan God, along with Vegeta, Gohan, and Videl (who was pregnant with Pan). Goten and the others observe the fight between Goku and Beerus for a while from Bulma's ship, then in Bulma's ship. They couldn't fly on their own, because they were all out of ki from doing to Super Saiyan God ritual. After their battle, Beerus falls asleep in attempt to destroy Earth, so Whis takes him home. Goten is curious on how being a god felt for Goku while he was having his big feast. Golden Frieza Saga
Later, when Jaco arrives on Earth to warn Bulma of Frieza arriving on Earth for vengeance, he and Trunks come into contact into him when he is looking for Bulma. They then touch his skin and face to make sure they are not tights and a mask with Goten accidentally taking off one of the wireless radios on his ears. They then play around with his ship, where Jaco encourages them to play, which leads to them accidentally closing the hatch and crashing it into the pond resulting in them being sent to their rooms as punishment. Later on, while the Z Fighters were fighting Frieza's forces, Goten and Trunks were playing ball outside when they sense Tagoma's ki and decided to join in the fight. After defusing as Gotenks, Goten and Trunks are frightened because Frieza is noticing them. They both run and hide along with Bulma and Jaco. Goten helps Bulma and Trunks summon Whis to bring Goku and Vegeta back to Earth. However, when Goku and Vegeta arrive, Goku sends Goten and Trunks to the Lookout to tell Dende what happened and additionally, the location is too dangerous for them. He is killed when the planet explodes, but Whis uses his Temporal Do-Over to undo the damage, undoing Goten's death in the process. After killing Frieza, Goku tells Goten all about what happened while they were away at the Capsule Corporation, and he later attends the party thrown by Bulma with his friends and family. Universe 6 Saga
Copy-Vegeta Saga
One day, Goten is eating dinner with his parents at home, when Goku shows signs of sadness and fatigue. Goten and Chi-Chi wonder if Goku is sick, or even dying. Eventually, Goku teleports to King Kai's planet, after a few attempts, and King Kai informs him of his Delayed Onset Ki Disorder. As Goku flies home, he unintentionally crashes into his house, destroying it and angering Chi-Chi, along with waking Goten, who was asleep. Goten accompanies his parents to Gohan and Videl's house, and he playfully spends time with his niece, Pan. When Pan disappears, Goten assists his parents and Piccolo with looking for her, flying around the house trying to find her. When Gohan and Videl return, Pan was already found, and Goten laughs with his family as Pan refers to Goku as "Gramps". While Goten and Trunks are flying towards Capsule Corp, they notice Monaka's delivery truck, but finding out that Monaka is not present. Goten and Trunks then make their way inside the back of Monaka's truck, having fun with the items present in there. When they blow up a blow-up doll, the force calls the truck to bounce off the ground, closing the door and trapping them inside. Trunks prepares to blow the door open but does not want Monaka to get in trouble for having the truck damaged. They then wait for Monaka, who immediately climbs in his truck and flies off into space with the two boys still inside. On the way to Planet Potaufeu, Goten and Trunks are freezing in the truck due to being in outer space. Monaka then arrives to Potaufeu, and opens the back door, discovering Goten and Trunks frozen solid and manages to thaw them. Potage, the planet's only inhabitant, appears and greets Monaka, and the intergalactic criminal Gryll confronts the group with his henchmen. Goten and Trunks realize Potage is in trouble, and easily defeat the henchmen, forcing them to retreat. They later reappear, holding the key to the seal of the "Superhuman Water". Goten and Trunks prepare to take the key back, but they remain still, realizing that Monaka has been taken hostage. Goten is tied up along with Trunks and Potage, as Gryll opens the seal to the Superhuman Water. Later, Goten and Trunks are being chased, while carrying Potage and Monaka, by Gryll and his henchmen, who are now purple. Goten can only watch as Trunks is knocked down, and is attacked again, however Vegeta and Jaco arrive, and Vegeta deflects the attack. Goten witnesses Vegeta easily defeating Gryll's henchmen and being absorbed by the "Superhuman Water" and an exact copy of him is created. Goten later retreats carrying Monaka, along with Trunks, Potage, Jaco, and a drained Vegeta. In a secure spot, Potage explains the truth about the "Superhuman Water", which is actually a weapon named Commeson, and they learn that Duplicate Vegeta must be defeated in order to save Vegeta's life. Duplicate Vegeta later confronts the two, who then fuse into Gotenks and engages in battle with him. Even as a Super Saiyan 3, Gotenks cannot deal any damage to Duplicate Vegeta, and is defeated by a few blows. Fallen, Goten and Trunks are about to be finished off by Duplicate Vegeta, but they are saved by Goku's timely arrival. Goten tries to inform his father to defeat Duplicate Vegeta quickly, as he is an impostor. Goten watches as Goku and Duplicate Vegeta are fighting an evenly matched battle, also showing surprise that Duplicate Vegeta can also transform into a Super Saiyan Blue. Goten accompanies Trunks, Potage and Jaco, as they try to save Vegeta by finding the Commeson's core. The core sneaks up behind Goten and tries to absorb him, but he is saved by Trunks and Jaco. The core then chases the group, as Goten flies behind Trunks, who panics and rushes to Vegeta's side, realizing his Ki is disappearing. Goten watches as the core is casually destroyed by Monaka, and Duplicate Vegeta is defeated by Goku. The group say goodbye to Potage and return to Earth, where Chi-Chi worriedly embraces Goten and asks if he is hurt. "Future" Trunks Saga

When Goku returns to Capsule Corp after learning the rules of the Tournament of Power, Goten is still fighting with Trunks. He says hi to his father, but is sucker punched by Trunks due to being distracted. Later on, Goten speaks with Vegeta about being excited for his new daughter. Embarrassed that Goten overheard him speaking on the matter Vegeta quickly leaves and says he is going to go train. Goten wants to train with Vegeta, but he says no and is asked to help Trunks set up the baby room. Later While Goku, Gohan, Supreme Kai and Hercule are discussing the tournament, Supreme Kai mentions Goten and Trunks as possible fighters mentioning their power at such a young age. Goku says no and mentions they would become a liability as they are too young and like to rush in headfirst into every fight. When the baby is born, Goten tells Trunks he can train with a brother and a sister would be cute, but Trunks favors a brother. While Trunks is disappointed the baby is a girl, Goten remarks how cute she is and stays at Capsule Corp for a couple of days to help Trunks take care of Bulla. Android 17 decides to participate in the Tournament of Power, so he tasks Goten and Trunks to protect the island he works on from poachers when the tournament begins. One day at Capsule Corp., Goten attempts to help Trunks change Bulla's diaper and is shown to have more knowledge about changing diapers than Trunks, who ends up calling Vegeta for help. Vegeta effortlessly changes the diaper and Goten, and Trunks are amazed. Less than an hour before the tournament begins, Goten arrives at 17's island with Trunks, Krillin, 18, and Marron. The boys quickly explore the island and let Marron stay with them, as 18 tells Krillin that Marron is tougher than he thinks. Goten reappears during the final moments of the saga, revealing Trunks and himself lived up to their end of the deal and protected 17's island, only suffering minor injuries from their ordeal. Later he attends the celebration for Bulla's birth held at Capsule Corp. Goten and Trunks are presumably trusted to watch 17's island again as 17 takes his family on a cruise. Varies: Skill with Strongest Charged Blast (Charged Blast have one focus all of their energy into one single point[12], putting the blasts power far beyond what their peak strength is[13], allowing them to destroy things they couldn't prior with their regular attacks[14], this also allows them to use charged attacks that can stop enemies far beyond their level, such as Tien Shinhan pushing back Semi-Perfect Cell with his Neo Ki-Ko-Ho[15], along with stopping an attack shot from Buu absorbed Gotenks[16]. Strongest charged blast can gather ki to shoot out blast far beyond what the character is normally capable of[17], with blasts capable of[18] seriously damaging/destroying[19] the Earth along with completely obliterating the opponent[20]. Powers and Techniques
- Chi Manipulation & Ki Manipulation (All beings in Dragon Ball[23][24][25] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[26], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[27] block attacks that would otherwise[28] kill them from[29] raising their guard[30], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[31])
- Aura
- Projection: A users ki aura can exert itself[32] as a weapon to attack[33].
- Explosive: Ki users through powering up can form an entire aura around themself, radiating their immense power[34], where depending on their immense strength, can cause them to explode their aura outwards to remove excess ki from themself[35].
- Mood Reflection: Goku and Piccolo Jr. with their auras and their stern concentration on each other reflected in their electric auras, even shooting electricity at each other[36].
- Emotional Empowerment (It's noted that ki users can receive energy through one cheering them on[37]. Ki users can be greatly increased by their emotions and beliefs, Son Goku explains that Son Gohan needs to remember the time he fought Cell and bring out all of the power he has, this way he can lose to no one[38] where it's shown during the Cell beam clash that he was holding back greatly out of fear of destroying the earth but from being cheered on and using all of his power within him, he was able to overpower Cell[39])
- Attack Reflection (All Ki users are able to reflect attacks just by being stronger than their opponent[40]. Examples include, Nappa deflecting a masenko from Son Gohan[41], Son Gohan being able to bounce back the spirit bomb[42], Son Goku deflecting a crusher ball from Jeice[43], Frieza deflecting a Final Burst Cannon from Vegeta[44], Son Goku reflecting multiple death beams back to back from Frieza[45], and Future Trunks being able to completely repel an energy blast with his hand from a Frieza Soldier just by being much stronger than them[46])
- Homing Attack (Ki users can create attacks that will home in and chase a target forever[47])
- Penetration Damage
- Weapon Creation (Ki users can create energy weapons out of their attacks[51])
- Power Absorption & Energy Transferal (Ki users can transfer their ki to others and absorb the ki given to them from others[52])
- Attack Nullification
- Power Nullification
- Ki Energy Based: Through having greater ki, one can nullify the powers done through ki attacks, such as Frieza being able to nullify a hakai ball[56], which fully destroys a target[57], though he is unable to resist a hakai ball from Toppo due to him being stronger[58], this ability however only works on ki, attacks unrelated, characters cannot resist through being stronger, such as how Vegeta, Krillin, & Son Gohan are unable to resist Guldo's psychic powers[59], along with even the likes of Son Goku[60].
- Forcefield Creation (Ki users such as Cell can generate forcefields around themselves[61]. These forcefields can be expanded[62], and used to protect others and defend against attacks far higher then the user[63])
- Super Armor (Through releasing one's ki, they enter a state known as "Hyper Mode"[64], in this state they do not flinch from weak melee attacks[65])
- Self-Destruction (Ki users in Dragon Ball are able to[66] release all of the energy within them[67] to cause a massive[68] self-destruction of energy that normally kills the user and turns them into dust[69] though one can control it to surviving but having no stamina or energy left[70])
- Dormant Power Reservoir (Ki users have a dormant power reservoir within them, as shown in arcs like the Buu Saga where Babidi saps this energy in order to use the energy to revive Buu and break his seal[71])
- Internal Destruction (Powerful ki users can overload enemies with their ki, causing them to swell up and explode from the sheer density of ki within them[72])
- Binding
- Dreaming Existence (Characters in Shin Budokai have shown to create physical bodies in alternate timelines through dreaming[75])
- Non-Standard Interaction
- Intangible Interaction: Those with ki can block intangible attacks when they focus and notices them[76].
- Space-Time Interaction (3+1-D): Characters can blast space-time distortions to close them[77].
- Healing
- Healing Singular Targets
- Advanced Healing: Ki can be used to heal beings, allowing them to survive even with half their torso[78], it can also heal from near death[79].
- Healing Singular Targets
- Resurrection
- Resurrection of the Deceased (Limited): Ki users can resurrect ones heart from death if their ki beams hit their heart, restarting it[80].
- Resurrection from Exhaustion: Can heal downed allies to give them ki back, reviving them[81])
- Intimidation & Spirit Manipulation (Ki is the manifestation of one’s lifeforce[82], along with the aura giving one the feeling of being crushed[83], exerting fear[84] into the target, sometimes making them incapable of moving as their[85] body is instinctively stuck due to the sheer difference in power[86])
- Link Manipulation & Mind Manipulation (Characters can link their ki together and train within each other’s mind enacting in image training[87])
- Vibration Manipulation
- Electricity Manipulation
- Weather Manipulation (Powerful Ki users can generate entire storms through merely powering up alone, Nappa used this in order to conjure the electricity from the storm[92]. Goku showcases this when he first turns super saiyan, causing a massive lightning storm in the background[93])
- Energy Manipulation (Ki is the latent power in one's body, this latent power allows them to form and create energy from controlling their ki, which can be used to shoot out energy blast[94])
- Explosion Manipulation (Ki attacks can create massive explosions[96], or control the ki to set off a huge explosion under the enemy[97], or in front of them[98])
- Portal Manipulation
- Non-combat applicable: Characters in GT can link their minds together to open a portal between the living realm and the other world[99].
- Heat Manipulation
- Light Manipulation (Ki can be used as a flash of light[103][104][105][106][107][108][109][110][111], Degisu seeing ki attacks be fired notes that the characters are "firing light from their hands"[112]).
- Limited Resistance to
- Durability Negation (Ki users can focus their energy to localize an object to a specific spot to stop them from attempting to destroy their organs/insides[113])
- Soul Manipulation (Characters with a strong enough will can keep moving after getting their soul reaped, though this requires something akin to a familial or friendship empowerment)
- Longevity (Saiyans can keep their youth until around 80 years old)
- Reactive Power Level (A Saiyan’s power increases if they survive from injuries in battle, with their powers allowing them to greatly exceed their previous levels beforehand)
- Rage Power (Mere rage can amplify a Saiyan to a level that's believed to be a myth even by the highest levels of Saiyans in the verse)
- Damage Boost (Saiyans attack power rises when health is low)
- Statistics Amplification (Saiyans have all of their stats rise when they're revived)
- Transformation (Transformative Arsenal; If Saiyans have their tail, they can transform into a giant great ape when the full moon shines).
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics
- Fighter's Intuition (Son Goten was trained by fighters such as Chi-Chi, and can compete in the World Martial Arts Tournament)

- Weather Manipulation (The legendary Super Saiyan transformation can cause lightning storms upon one powering up to it)
Equipment
- Flying Nimbus: Before learning how to fly, Goten was forced to use his father's Flying Nimbus which Gohan had inherited after their father's death and later passed it down to Goten. However, Goten eventually stopped using it after learning Flight from Gohan.
Notable Techniques
- Flight: With a mastery of Ki control, Goten is able to fly at incredibly high speeds.
- Ki Blast: Using Ki, Goten can concentrate it into a ball that he uses as a projectile attack.
- Ki Sense: Goten is able to detect lifeforms and power levels from far off.
- Kamehameha: The iconic move coined by Master Roshi, which Goten has adopted for himself. This starts as a blue Ki ball, which is charged in Goten’s hands before releasing as an incredibly powerful beam.
- Kamekameha: A much weaker version of the standard Kamehameha Wave, used by Goten as a child when he first learned of the attack. Not only is it weaker, but it is also more out-of-control.
- Super Kamehameha: This is an amplified version of the Kamehameha which has a larger and more devastating beam, which Goten uses by first bolstering his Ki.
- Stone Bullet: The user throws a rock that can only be used in point-blank range.
- Assault!: First, Goten charges at the opponent and punches them away. Then, he flies up into the air and charges down at the opponent head-first at top speed. When the opponent dodges, Goten blasts the ground with an energy sphere to propel himself towards the opponent's direction to knock them away with a headbutt, using his falling speed to inflict severe damage.
- Full Power Energy Blast Volley: The user fires flurries of large, bright Ki Blasts that is more powerful than the average energy volley. It is useful for quick, effective, as well as causing massive accumulations of damage to the foes. The difference with the Full Power Energy Barrage Wave is that the user does not move his hands while firing it. The waves themselves just chase the opponent.
- Fusion Dance: A short series of poses that are performed by two characters of equal power levels and roughly equal size. To correctly perform the Fusion, the fusees must strike the poses in a perfectly symmetrical image of one another. The result of a correctly performed Fusion Dance is a superior being whose power is multiplied several-fold over that of the individual fusees. If the dance is performed incorrectly, it will result in an obese or skinny character who is much weaker than either fusee individually.
- Super Saiyan: Goten gains the ability to transform into a Super Saiyan at a very young age, and is the youngest known Super Saiyan. He could even transform before learning how to fly. He is first shown in the form while training with his mother. Unlike his brother and father, Goten was instinctively able to manifest this form without any extreme emotional distress nor dire need, so much so that he didn't even realize the change until Chi-Chi pointed it out. To which, he quickly mastered the form. This reduces his emotional build-up and energy consumption while in said form to near-nothing and can therefor maintain it for as long as desired without any strain on his body.
- Gotenks: Gotenks is the fusion created when Goten and Trunks perform the fusion dance. Gotenks' power far surpasses either of the fighters' individual strengths other than Gohan and Goku. He attains the Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 3 forms. Goten and Trunks are capable of fusing into Gotenks within 0.05 seconds. They use the technique several times as kids. As young adults, in Dragon Ball GT, Goten and Trunks are tempted to fuse into Gotenks to try and help their fathers but are told not to by Gohan. The Fused Warrior Gotenks shares both Goten and Trunks' playfulness as well as their special attacks and new moves that Goten and Trunks do not have, such as Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack as well as Galactic Donut or Charging Ultra Buu Buu Volleyball.

Standard Tactics: Goten will start off with hand to hand combat along with using ki blast.
Weaknesses
- Standard Ki Weaknesses: Ki users that do not have sufficient training over their emotions put their power within a mental lock, thus affects to their emotions can seriously limit their powers[115], their emotions can also have them instinctively block using the full power of their attacks out of fear of the destruction along with lack of confidence in themselves[116]. If a Ki user is inflicted with any kind of status, disease, or poison, powering up or transforming will put further strain on the body[117] and can speed up the process of poison[118]. Users of Ki Sensing cannot sense beings that invisible, even if the character is in front of them attacking them, they have a hard time countering them due to being invisible[119]. Users of Ki Sensing also have a harder time sensing the true being using illusions, requiring them to focus in on energy fields to see who is moving and who is casting the illusion[120]. Due to the nature of ki draining stamina and energy, Dragon Ball characters ki usage requires them to usually use their higher levels of energy in short bursts, using a large amount of ki overtime can greatly weaken them to the point that characters far lower then them can actually harm them with attacks[121]. Taking large amounts of damage can greatly deplete a ki users attacks, making it where attacks that would otherwise kill massively weakened characters, only pushes them back[122]. Ki users cannot put all of their ki and strength into an attack if parts of their body are broken/injured[123][124], they also lose half of their chi if something like one of their arms are badly injured or broken[125].Ki users that are able to ki sense cannot do it when their guard is dropped, such as when Vegeta was able to sneak attack Son Goku during the end of their fight in the Buu Saga[126]. Despite some ki users being able to reach blasts that can destroy planets through charged attacks or techniques[127][128][129][130], they have not shown to be able to tank such blasts themselves[131][132][133], with attacks that have[134] destroyed several[135] planets in the series[136] always killing the character. Even characters such as Majin Buu's body cannot withstand the energy of a planet exploding[137]. Using ki volley attacks come with the caveat of their aim being rather poor, making it harder to hit moving targets. If ki users are at all possessed, even by accident, their true self will be sleeping within, with the possessor needing to awaken them[138]. Even if awoken, they are immobilized and unable to move without the possessor giving them the ability to[139], even with them wanting to wake up, they cannot do it[140]. Specific waves can can suppress a ki users power, and put their consciousness to sleep[141]. If Ki users stamina is broken, they will unable to be able to continue fighting for a short while, this will also cancel out any ki attack they were attempting to use, including ultimate's[142], this also adds on that ki users guards are down while charging ultimate attacks. Their stamina can also be broken if a character moves far too fast and surprise attacks them while they're charging their ki[143]. Ki Users can also be grabbed out of charging their attacks[144]. When ki users radiate their Ki at its highest, their body is also freed the most, making them open to attacks and making them easy to possess[145].
- Unique Weaknesses: Goku notes that Goten could have been much stronger if he had trained.
Note
- Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up[146].
- The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.
Explanations
Codex Statistics Questions
Q: What about the planetary feats in Dragon Ball?
A: Planetary feats are normally done through their strongest charged blast, where they can gather ki to shoot out blast far beyond what the character is normally capable of[147], with blasts capable of[148] seriously damaging/destroying[149] the Earth along with completely obliterating the opponent[150], though they themselves are never capable of leaving this unscathed.
Frieza throws a destroy the planet death ball attack but it doesn't destroy the planet. Goku then interestingly notes the reason the planet didn't blow up is because Frieza was too scared of getting caught in the blast[151] . Vegeta's final flash is noted it's going to destroy the planet and Perfect Cell, who is beyond Vegeta, couldn't tank the blast and had to dodge it last second or it would've killed him[152]. Goku's kamehameha was going to destroy the earth and Cell cannot tank this blast, needing to regenerate[153]. Semi-Perfect Cell explosion was consistently noted it was going to destroy the planet and Gohan and it killed Goku[154]. Ultimate Gohan dies to an attack that destroys the earth, his guard was up too since this was when he was fighting Super Buu[155]. Kid Buu shoots a blast trying to destroy the planet, with Vegeta noting he's going to take himself out with it if he lets it off[156]. In Dragon Ball GT, Great Ape Baby Vegeta shoots a super galick gun that he claims will destroy Earth, when Goku is hit by it, he is knocked out to the point that he can't move for a good while, Elder Kai and Shin later state that Baby is going to shoot another blast that will destroy the planet on, greatly injuring Baby if he's caught in the Blast and will kill everyone on the planet if done[157]. Frieza destroyed the entire earth, killing Vegeta in the process[158]. In the Dragon Ball Super Manga, Gohan tells Goku that he doesn't need to hold anything back and can go all out because anything that happens to the Earth can be restored with Dende and the Dragon Balls. Yet, none of Goku's all out attacks destroy the planet but just heavily causes shockwaves around it[159]. Semi-Perfect Cell unleashes a several blast that destroys several islands Android 16 notes that the attacks are just strong enough to not kill Android 18[160].
In the fight of Trunks vs. Mecha Frieza, who is far stronger than his final form, Mecha Frieza immediately goes for his strongest attack, the Supernova. In the original Z anime King Kai even states this is ten times stronger than the power he used on Namek:
- DBZ Kai Version[161].
- Original DBZ Anime Version[162]. The attack is directly noted that it could destroy the planet, but doesn't because Trunks catches it, when Mecha Frieza proceeds to detonate it, the explosion is massive but the planet is still intact, implying Frieza must target the core in order to destroy the planet.
