Vinnie
Vinnie, also known as the Reverse Puppet, is the overarching antagonist of the series. He represents Mary's hallucination of The Marionette from Five Nights at Freddy's 2 and was once a mascot at the Rat & Cat Theater.
Vinnie makes a cameo appearance in Five Nights at Candy's 2 as an Easter egg, and in Five Nights at Candy's 3 he appears in the "Thank You for Playing" image.
Vinnie returned in the minigames of Five Nights at Candy's 3, where his existence within the Five Nights at Candy's series is explained. During gameplay, he is replaced by his counterpart, Monster Vinnie.

The Puppeteer is a recurring character in Five Nights at Candy's 3. He is one of the performers at "The Rat and Cat Theater" and appears exclusively in the post-night cutscenes for Night 3 and Night 5. The Puppeteer is revealed to be the killer of the entertainers who wore the RAT and CAT suits, as shown during the fifth night of Five Nights at Candy's 3. In 1961, The Puppeteer unintentionally killed the RAT mascot during an altercation about the employee's drunkenness at work. During the struggle, the RAT actor broke free but struck his head on the edge of a table holding Vinnie the Puppet. The CAT mascot then entered the room, found the body, and tried to call the police. To keep his crime from being discovered, The Puppeteer deliberately killed the CAT mascot as well. He then lied to the police, put away his entertainer diploma, and left. Unknown to everyone involved, the entire incident was witnessed by Mary Schmidt, who had hidden in the closet of the Staff Only room during a game of hide-and-seek with the RAT. After the incident, The Puppeteer went on to star as the villain in the horror movie PSYCHOPATH, earning critical acclaim for his performance and leaving many to wonder why he was so convincing in the role. Severely traumatized, Mary underwent therapy and gradually recovered her memories of the incident. She eventually told the police the truth, leading to The Puppeteer's arrest. It is unknown what happened in prison sometime before 1964, though there is some implication that he may have died. It is also shown that his spirit became the hallucination form of Vinnie seen in the first two games, along with Monster Vinnie in the third game.
Five Nights at Candy's In the cutscenes, a hallucination of Vinnie always appears within the Rowboatics Corp. Factory. In the cutscene at the end of the first night, he stares at the camera and approaches from the left side before suddenly lunging in front of it with a jumpscare as the scene ends. In the cutscene following the third night, he looks toward what appears to be a crime scene while twitching repeatedly. In the fourth cutscene, he gazes at Candy and Cindy, who are sitting on a conveyor belt inside the factory, and points at them in an accusatory manner, reflecting that Mary is responsible for their creation. In the fifth and final cutscene featuring Vinnie, he approaches the camera in a manner similar to the first night, but this time emerging from the darker areas behind the conveyor belt. He then positions himself so that only his face is visible, displaying the text: "A mistake, my mistake. A problem, your problem." Throughout the scene, he twitches spasmodically without pause. Five Nights at Candy's 2 Five Nights at Candy's 3 In the glitch minigame "Fishing with Candy," while at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, the main location of the second Five Nights at Freddy's game, Mary enters a room where the Puppet is performing. Seeing it reminds her of Vinnie. At that moment, all the children in the room begin to fade away, and the Puppet rapidly distorts into Vinnie.
Monster Vinnie, also called Monster Reverse Puppet, is the secondary antagonist and final boss of Five Nights at Candy's 3. He is the monstrous form of Vinnie, appearing both in the game's cutscenes and on the Final Night. At first, Mary only sees the back of Monster Vinnie's head before he begins to speak. His dialogue appears as onscreen text rather than spoken audio. Monster Vinnie says that he remembers what Mary did, that others remember as well, and that Mary was the reason they were all there. He claims it happened because of Mary and that she cannot tell anyone, asking why she would before stating it is her fault. Once he finishes speaking, his head rotates to face Mary. After turning to face Mary, Monster Vinnie finishes speaking, saying only, "All of it." The Final Night When the Final Night begins, as in the game's intro, Mary sees Monster Vinnie's head facing away from the screen, this time accompanied by dramatic music. Monster Vinnie asks why Mary returned, noting that the secret is out and the weight of their guilt has been erased. He guesses that Mary wanted to confront the problem, him, and admits he did not realize what he had done until he was in bed, about to sleep. He says he was never able to think clearly again and does not know if it would still have happened had Mary not been there, but that Mary was there and saw everything. Now that the truth has come out, he says his life is ending and things will never be as they were before, lamenting that he had everything. After he stops speaking, his head turns to face Mary. He tells her that she took everything away and does not get to walk away from what she has done to him. He says Mary ruined his life and vows to make sure she will never be able to sleep again. Monster Vinnie then reveals his entire face, delivering a brief jumpscare to Mary and beginning the Final Night. Vinnie ultimately loses and presumably disappears from Mary's subconscious for good. |
Appearance
General Description: The Puppeteer has makeup and clothes in a style similar to Vinnie the Puppet. He is said to be the one who controls Vinnie on-stage, either by string or by inner-hand movement. His appearance is depicted in a pixelated, distorted style with horizontal scanlines.
Facial Features: A white face or mask with black, hollow-looking eyes. A small orange or brown detail is visible on the side of his face. His head is topped with a dark blue hat or cap.
Clothing/Outfit: A black and white striped shirt or vest over a blue undershirt. Dark blue pants. White gloves. Black shoes with white accents.
General Description: Vinnie is an animatronic puppet with a skinny body and long, slender limbs. He has three long fingers on each hand.
Five Nights at Candy's: A white face with a sad facial expression. Dark purple lines run down his mask. He has blue blush cheeks and blue lips, giving him an overall gloomy feel. He has the same eye shape as his Five Nights at Freddy's counterpart, which makes him look angry from certain angles.
Five Nights at Candy's 2 (New Vinnie): A string or ventriloquist puppet with a grayish-white face. He has brown-orange eyes, two blue cheeks, and two blue lines down his face. His jaw is separated into two parts, giving him a more sad appearance. He wears a blue bowtie.
Five Nights at Candy's 3: In minigames, the animatronic version of Vinnie resembles his Monster version in gameplay.
General Description: Monster Vinnie is an animatronic puppet with a very skinny body and long, slender limbs.
Facial Features: The eye part of the mask is wide open, unlike Nightmarionne and New Vinnie. The eyes appear to be held up by a metal frame inside the mask. The jaw appears to be able to move, like a dummy. The mouth contains many sharp teeth, stained red at the tips. The mask appears to be dirty or aged. Purple or blue coloring is on his lips and the outsides of his eyes. A purple or blue line comes down from his eyes to the end of the mask, and he has purple or blue cheeks.
Clothing/Outfit: A blue bowtie. Three white buttons on his chest. Dark colored shorts. Striped arms and legs. Dark boots.
Physical Traits: His hands seem to come to points, with blood on the ends.
Personality
- Murderous and Self-Preserving: The Puppeteer killed the RAT mascot after an altercation regarding the employee's drunkenness. He intentionally killed the CAT mascot to ensure his crime went unnoticed, then lied to the police about the incident all for the sake of preserving his acting career.
- Acclaimed Actor: After the incident, the Puppeteer starred in the horror movie PSYCHOPATH as the villain, receiving critical acclaim for his role and leaving many wondering why he was so good at it. Ironically his best roles were where he played the killer.
- Tormented Spirit: His spirit embodied the hallucination form of Vinnie. Monster Vinnie speaks of guilt, saying "I remember what you did" and "It is your fault." In the Final Night, he states he was never able to think clearly again and that his life ends, blaming the player for ruining his life and threatening that they will never be able to sleep again.
- Shifts Blame: Despite admitting the things he's done are horrible, he attempts to blame Mary for everything, this is also shown in Five Nights at Candy's 1 where he shifts the problem and mistake to the person watching on the camera.
Goals
- Become a professional actor (Succeeded temporarily).
- Make sure Mary Schmidt never sleeps again (Failed).
Relationships
Mary Schmidt
While unknown if it is a hallucination or actually Vinnie in the beginning, he continuously blames her for what happened that night[1].
He initially had no relation to her other then saying hello to her at the theater.
However, when the incident happened and Mary was the only one to witness it and report it to the police, he blames her for why he has been locked behind bars.
He attempts to face against her in the true final night but loses[2].

Puppet
- Description: Vinnie is a Ventriloquist and uses the Puppet for this. Vinnie's Puppet is a double-puppet; meaning it's both a string-puppet, and a ventriloquist-puppet[4].
- Usage: Normally to entertain kids.
- Function: As the Puppet acts as both a string puppet to freely move around and a ventriloquist puppet to make it look like the puppet is talking when it's actually Vinnie.
Notable Techniques
Jumpscare
Vinnie effectively sneak attacks Mary Schmidt. Due to the size difference he can come running up to her to overpower her.
They quick attack which likely in-universe catches Mary off guard before grabbing and killing them.
Knocking
When the monsters get angrier they start aggressively knocking on Mary's door. The knocks are meant to fool Mary as the sound comes from the opposite side that they're on.
Other
Standard Tactics
The Puppeteer is a conniving actor, utilizing his skills as an actor to try and get away with things such as murder.
Vinnie seemingly manifests and messes with technology along with attempting to go for the kill.
Monster Vinnie moves around different parts of the room to try and sneak attack Mary. When getting angrier, he knocks aggressively on the side of the door he's not at in order to fool her.
Monster Vinnie moves his head in a 360-degree circle, and has about ten different points where he stops moving. Monster Vinnie will move around the room a total of five times before he goes under the bed. Moving the mouse away from the center of his eyes for a split second will cause him to attack. It takes approximately seven seconds for Vinnie to move to the hallway, closet, and/or dresser after he's been caught.
Weaknesses: The monsters are weak to Mary's flashlight, needing to move away from it when it's shone on them[13].
Explanations
Dreamscape
The dreamscape[18] is an area where one is somewhat dreaming[18]. One can communicate with one in the dreamscape from the deepscape and vice versa. To truly dream, Mary goes to sleep within the dreamscape to face off against the nightmares[18]. The room in the Dreamscape gets more and more filled the more Mary remembers[19].
Deepscape
The Deepscape is a place where Mary's deepest memories are[18]. It comprises of glowing particles that make up a path so that Mary can safely travel[18] as traversing off the path is where the shadows will get her[18]. The Deepscape's design changes with each night, where later nights the Monster Cat spawns where it causes a timer to count down whenever Mary steps off the path[19]. When Mary becomes familiar with the unfamiliar, the deepscape has dream trees grow which serve as guides to let Mary know where she is[19].
Trivia
- The Puppeteer's first and only appearance is in the cutscenes of FNaC 3. He is also personified in the monster of Night 6, Monster Vinnie. In the first two games, his spirit possessed Vinnie after he was found guilty of murder and died in prison.
- The incident that unfolds on Night 5, involving the Puppeteer and the other mascots, was alluded to in various newspaper articles found in the Deepscape of Night 5. These newspaper clippings, however, depict the incident as the Puppeteer told the police, not what actually happened.
- Vinnie only appears in Five Nights at Candy's 2, in the Night 1 minigame, as an Easter Egg.
- The meaning of his phrase "A mistake, my mistake. A problem, your problem" is revealed in Five Nights at Candy's 3. The Puppeteer accidentally killed an employee in The Rat costume, and later killed another employee in The Cat costume. Mary Schmidt witnessed the incident, which Vinnie sees as being her problem. The other meaning of his phrase relates to when Mary fell asleep on the job at Rowboatics Corp. Factory, where The Rat murdered two children who became Candy the Cat and Cindy the Cat. Since Mary fell asleep, it is partially her fault.
- As mentioned in a thread by PalomonsF, it is speculated that Vinnie was meant to play a bigger role in this game. He may have been intended to be an active animatronic in Five Nights at Candy's 2, but the reason this was scrapped is currently unknown.
- This remains speculation, as the main evidence comes from a dev sketch of his body in the Dev Sketches section of the Extra menu, since it would not make sense for Emil Macko to make a dev sketch of a minigame sprite.
- Vinnie is most likely inspired by The Gray Puppet Hoax from FNaF 2 that was created by RoXo1987.
- Monster Vinnie's laugh, when sped up, is actually audio of a crying child.
- Monster Vinnie is the personification of both The Puppeteer and New Vinnie from Five Nights at Candy's 2. New Vinnie's face is placed on a body similar to that of The Puppeteer's.
- If one looks behind the text after the Five Nights at Candy's 3 demo ends, Monster Vinnie's body can be seen.
- Though he finally revealed himself on Night 6, Monster Vinnie actually appeared at the very beginning as a silhouette in the darkness.
- Monster Vinnie's pre-night dialogue before Night 6 speaks from the perspective of The Puppeteer, describing how he did not realize what he had done until he went to bed for the night. That said, this all occurs within Mary Schmidt's dreams. This either means that Mary is fabricating it in her mind, or that Monster Vinnie is the embodiment of The Puppeteer, making him more paranormal than the rest of the monsters.
- Monster Vinnie can be seen as the Nightmarionne or Nightmare of FNAF 4, as they are the final and only animatronic to hunt the player down on the final night.
- Monster Vinnie is the only monster in the game that does not bear the appearance of a living creature.
