Background

The Redeemed Warrior is a minor character that makes a cameo in the beginning of God of War: Ascension. He also serves as the player's customizable warrior in the multiplayer mode.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Redeemed Warrior’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Single Player During Kratos' pursuit of Megaera, he travels through the prison made within Aegaeon. Kratos crashes into a cell containing a lonely prisoner who is rejoiced to see an opportunity for freedom from his prison. Then, as an infected arm of the Hecatonchires rips apart the cell, the prisoner prays to the gods just as its claw is about to strike, he vanishes from his chains into a beam of light, much to Kratos' surprise. The prisoner would find redemption for his unknown crimes and was transported to the Rotunda of Olympus. There he would start his trials to become a warrior of the gods. Multiplayer After entering multiplayer mode for the first time, it will replay the cutscene from the campaign of the warrior's origin as a prisoner mentioned above, but from the point of view of the Warrior. Within the Rotunda of Olympus they will start their training and choose an alliance with ether Ares, Hades, Zeus, or Poseidon. Following that they will then be able to apply their choice of Armor, Weapons, and be able to partake multiplayer matches. Zeus It is revealed that Zeus' warriors have stronger magical attacks, supernatural enchantments to their weapons, and magic damage rewards for feats achieved on the battlefield through the power of lightning, Zeus' aligned warriors can control space as they drape the playing field with electricity, forcing their opponents to scatter in all directions. If his enemies survive the initial onslaught, it matters not. The regeneration speed of his large mana reserves means another magical attack is not too far behind. "With great power, there is always a great price to pay. Zeus warriors will never have as much weapon strength or resilience as their opponents. While they can equip armor and weapons that help make up for this weakness, the true Zeus warrior knows to setup their weaponry for maximum magic special moves and blistering lightning attacks." Ares Warriors who align with Ares are brute force tacticians dealing a devastating array of up-close attacks – high physical power is his specialty. These Warriors can also harness magic abilities that unleash a fiery rage, specifically his Blade and War Hammer. Warriors of Ares are juggernauts who excel in close-range combat and employ powerful items that can boost their physical or elemental attacks, and cripple the defensive capabilities of surrounding enemies. However, being a tank on the battlefield has its disadvantages. Ares warriors are susceptible to magical attacks as they often sacrifice resistance, for physical power. You must learn to bait your enemies into wasting magic, then strike before they regenerate. A true Ares warrior will balance offense and defense to create a class that can fight multiple enemies at once. Poseidon Poseidon grants his loyal sentinels unique support capabilities: a large pool of health, the ability to fortify allies, and command over water and ice. Unleash freezing attacks to obliterate an enemy’s defense and agility or boost your own team’s elemental defense and health. The wise warrior knows how to control a large area of space and can keep multiple enemies at a distance. As an enemy’s health and patience is eroded, they will forget that a Poseidon sentinel can survive a waves of damage without worrying about their health. Should they reach you, envelop yourself with a barrier of ice and nullify their efforts before they begin. Attack power is the only sacrifice Poseidon requests of his faithful followers. The Lord of the Ocean offers the option to increase your power at the cost of decreasing the effectiveness of cooperative attacks. However an experienced enforcer knows that he can be the greatest reinforcement a single ally or an entire team could ask for and thus should choose his equipment accordingly. You may choose to be just another soldier on the battlefield or be a tactile battery. Hades Of all of the allegiances, Hades executioners have the highest versatility and variety of abilities. With the ability to curse, drain life, become invisible, and create large hazards (all in one load-out), the followers of Hades are able to control the flow of battle. Hades is neither the strongest offensively nor defensively, but careful tailoring through armors and weapons, based on the situation to subsidize this, will help push you towards whatever role you want to fill—you will be able to do it all. As an ally, Hades warriors can quickly affect a fight by casting deadly curses, instantly placing any adversary at a great disadvantage and possibly cutting off their avenue of escape. Additionally, with the ability to cloak himself or his entire team in a shroud of stealth, the Hades team controls the option of when and how to initiate combat. However, when dealing death in the arena, it is as a solo player that Hades warriors are the most fierce. With multiple forms of escape, powerful focused attacks that can affect multiple enemies, and the option to steal health called Life Leech, Hades specters are incredibly self-sufficient. An encounter with a Hades warrior will always end in the death of a Champion.

• Gladiator Armor: An old armor worn by gladiators who had recently made an oath to the Gods. It adds +2 Health; +6% Physical Power.
• Achilles Spear: The Spear of Achilles is a DLC weapon of God of War: Ascension's Multiplayer. It's a spear bearing much resemblance to the Hyperion Spear. It was specially created for co-operative moves, like the other weapons of the Mythological Heroes pack. The Spear of Achilles is a long bronze spear, ending in an iron two-bladed tip. The lower half of the bladed-tip has being shaped like the sun and has a bronze cross as decoration, finishing off the sun-look. It adds +11% Physical Power; +4% Cooldown Reduction
• Atlas Hammer: A hammer that was carried into battle by Atlas when he commanded the Titan Army against the Gods. It weighs as much as the Earth itself and can create massive earthquakes and fissures. The hammer's "head" seems to be made of a large and raw stone block of rectangular shape with iron adornments covering most of it, including the image of Atlas himself. The Hammer of Atlas possesses the strength of one of the most brutal titans to have battled Olympus. The rage of Atlas can be released through devastating ground pounds that summon volcanic boulders from the earth, stunning and seriously damaging anyone in its massive area of effect. A weapon of brute strength capable of crushing minions without much effort, this hammer is fit for warriors aligned to Ares, since both of its specials cause considerable physical damage to anyone who dares to get close. It adds +10% Physical Power; +4% Physical Resist.
• Barbarian Hammer: A hammer that belongs to the Barbarian Warriors from the East, passed down to king from king. It is stained with the blood of over 1000 warriors and can summon the soul of each of them to battle. It gets stronger the more souls it kills. It adds +3% Physical Power, +11% Physical Resist.
• Blade of Artemis: Carried into Battle by Artemis herself to fight the Titans. It adds +7% Physical Power.
• Blade of Athena: The Blade of Athena was one of the weapons that warriors in Multiplayer had to obtain by three fragments. It adds +5% Physical Damage; +9% Elemental Damage; +5% Physical Defense.
• Cerberus Blade: A blade created using the teeth of Cerberus itself. It can spray a wave of flames with a single swing. It adds +7% Physical Damage; +6% Elemental Damage; +4% Cooldown Reduction.
• Phobos Spear: A spear that is etched with symbols that leak otherworldly, terrific energy. It is able to induce fear into the heart of its foes and create explosions of dark energy as well as barriers. The Phobos Spear is large spear with a symmetric blade. The toothed blade ends in a sharp point while a blue line on the center of the weapon shows the godly magic it possess. It is mainly an elemental weapon made to keep enemies at distance, capable of launching them in the air, creating temporary energy barriers and even of throwing projectiles. The barrier can be useful when trying to pick a special item from the scenery, such as the Spear of Olympus or a white chest, since it both prevents enemies from reaching it and protects the user of the spear or an ally while he completes the minigame to pick the item. It can be useful for warriors aligned to Zeus due to its elemental properties, but it's also a good choice for warriors of Hades. If well used, the Spear of Phobos becomes a powerful item of self-defense and a weapon that spreads fear through enemy lines. It adds +3% Physical Power; +10% Elemental Power; +8% Cooldown Reduction.
• Cronos Blade: A blade crafted from the chains of the Titan Cronos, it can call forward electric attacks. It adds +7% Physical Damage; +7% Elemental Damage.
• Gauntlets of Jason: A pair of gauntlets enchanted by the flames of the witch Medea to be able to reflect melee and projectile attacks, as well as expel powerful fire. • Spear of Olympus: The Spear of Olympus is a featured weapon in God of War: Ascension. It is makes an appearance exclusively in the multiplayer mode "Desert of the Lost Souls" map, giving one of the teams, either the Spartans or the Trojans the ability to kill Polyphemus. It is charged with the icy energy of the sea, which can be released through its special attacks. Also, it has a very special feature no other weapon has: each time it delivers three consecutive hits to an opponent, it creates a blue orb, which follows the user. • Gauntlets of Poseidon: The Gauntlets of Poseidon are DLC Multiplayer weapons only available to players aligned with Poseidon. Each gauntlet is a large conch with small spikes on the front part and iron pieces attached to it from behind, where the warrior places his arms. These gauntlets harness the ice powers of Poseidon through powerful elemental beams. It might be desirable for players who attack from medium range, being capable of tossing foes in the air and even freezing them from such distance, which leaves them vulnerable to any attack. With the freezing might of Poseidon flowing through them, these powerful shells are the perfect weapon for a loyal servant of the lord of the seas. • Spear of Hades: The Spear of Hades is a weapon only available to players who are aligned to Hades. The Spear of Hades is a long two-handed spear with a large forked blade as the tip. On the other side of the spear there is a hook resembling the Claws of Hades. It's a powerful weapon with magical abilities and is capable of ranged attacks. It adds +3% Physical Power; +10% Elemental Power. The Godly Spear of Hades adds +3 Health, +3% Physical Power, +11% Elemental Power.
• Sword of Hades: The Sword of Hades is a two-handed sword only available to players with alignment to Hades. The sword has a cleaver-shaped blade with spikes and purple grooves along it and is made to perform quick and unexpected attacks that set enemies for combos rather than strong blows against them. Its specials can either cover a considerable area and quickly strike more than one foe at once or deliver a surprise leaping strike with focus on a single opponent. Enemies must be aware when a warrior with the Sword of Hades approaches, otherwise they can be sliced to pieces even before having a chance to react. It adds +13% Physical Power. The Godly Sword of Hades adds +7 Health, +15% Physical Power.
• The Claws of Olympus: The Claws of Olympus is a weapon in God of War: Ascension multiplayer available only to warriors who sworn an oath to Hades. The Claws of Olympus appear as huge gauntlets, resembling the Helm of Hades, with bright tanzanite purple light shining from them. A pair of long claws, which are possibly the Claws of Hades themselves, are chained to the gauntlets and are used for long range combat. Like the Claws of Hades, they use the power of undead souls to decimate enemies and steal their life energy. This leaves their victims severely weakened while the wielder regains any lost health and is healed from his/her wounds that they suffered in battle. It adds +8 Health; +10% Physical Power; +9% Physical Resist.
• War Armor of Hades: The War Armor of Hades is an armor set in Multiplayer, being exclusive to warriors of Hades. The armor features a helmet that covers all the face, featuring six holes (three in both sides) in the front and two horns, making a relation with Hades and his Helm. It also features shoulder/biceps, spiked vambraces, greaves, and full protection in the chest. It adds +10% Physical Power, +9% Elemental Power. The Godly War Armor of Hades adds +4 Health, +11% Physical Power, +10% Elemental Power.
• War Hammer of Hades: The War Hammer of Hades is a two-handed hammer from Multiplayer only available to players aligned with Hades. It is a war hammer hammer with spikes and purple groves on it. Specially known for its leeching powers, it becomes useful at danger situations such as being low in health or surrounded by multiple enemies. Those who like to attack packs of enemies at once and, at the same time, keep their health bar at higher levels will find this hammer a very desirable weapon. Other

Standard Tactics: The Redeemed Warriors are wild cards, holding a great amount of weapons and abilities.

Weaknesses: Based on the chosen allegiance, Poseidon's Warriors are weaker in physical strength to wrestle others and prefer healing and ice based abilities, Ares' Warriors do not care about physical damage they receive while doing attacks. Hades' Warriors lack a usage of defensive power.

Note

No form of Redeemed Warrior or any other character for that matter at all scales to the power of the Blade of Olympus. A power so great that Zeus with a single swipe, defeated all of the Titans. Along with this, Power of Hope Kratos, arguably the most powerful character in the series, used the sword to kill himself in one hit. It even threatened Athena in her new form of existence who no one scales too.

Trivia

• His small cameo in the beginning of the story serves as a connection between the campaign and the multiplayer's setting.
• At first sight, it appeared the Warrior died when the infected Hecatonchires hand tried to give its final blow on the Warrior.
• The Warrior's status was currently unknown. It is possible that he perished from the chaos caused by death of the gods or was killed (possibly killed by Kratos off-screen) when fulfilling the quests assigned by them.
• It is unknown which god he sided with after being teleported to Olympus.
• Your warrior can be either a Spartan or a Trojan based on teams, with no effect to your god alignment.
  • An alignment to either city (Sparta or Troy) is not permanent and will change each match.
  • Sometimes other cities are included during a match of champions, however, these are not given a name and are only distinguishable by the symbols near the favor.
• It is unknown how the warrior can use the Hyperion Gates without the soul of a god.
  • Maybe, if one subjects his soul to a god, he may be granted passage through the gates, but this hypothesis is not confirmed, since Kratos was never seen entering in a Hyperion Gate while he was serving Ares.
• While the redeemed warrior is strong, he has less strength, elemental power, resilience, resistant, evade and experience compared to Kratos (because by selecting their armor on how much their stats in which best use to strong and powerful warrior).
  • Some enemy attacks redeemed warrior can block or parry will result in countered, stumbling, damage, or death, notably from larger creatures like Gorgons, Satyr Captains, Cyclops Berserker, Chimera and Juggernaut (Elephantaur).
  • He is also slower than the Ghost of Sparta, as Wolves (Feral Hound), Satyr Commanders, Satyr Captains, Gorgons, Sirens, and Amazons will very often dodge his attacks and are harder to grapple or attack compared to Kratos which easiest to fight and grapple tethering.
  • Some large enemies has ability to block and countered to warrior notable Centaur Guards, Chimera, Hercules, and Manticore.
  • The Redeemed Warrior's speed with World Weapons vary more. While he is faster with the club, with the javelin he is slower.
