Background

Guilty Gear is a fighting game series by Arc System Works, made and designed by Daisuke Ishiwatari.

The universe of Guilty Gear is essentially identical to the real world, with an exception of the existence of Magic and "the Backyard", an alternate dimension of information. The Y2K sensation of technology shutting down actually happens, forcing the world to run technology on magic. A man with immense intellect known as "The Original" enters the Backyard, and creates the Universal Will with the goal to protect humanity. The Universal Will, due to being an AI, does not think "humans" exist yet and the current humans are a disease, and thus seeks to wipe them out.

The story mainly revolves around three people: Frederick Bulsara, Aria Hale, and Asuka R. Kreutz. They are scientists who founded the Gear project, which turns others into superhumans that are immune to diseases. One day, Aria gets ill, and Asuka puts her into cryostasis, eventually transforming her into the commander gear known as [[Guilty Gear/Justice ho wages war on humanity, starting the Crusades, a hundred-year-war between man and gears.

During these events, Asuka also turns Frederick into the prototype gear without his consent. Frederick is enraged by this, seeking revenge on his former friend, and takes the name Sol Badguy.
