Background

Vulpin is a monster that the player is given to raise and train to fight other monsters that cause chaos in the land. It is received from the Mysterious Stranger in the beginning of the game. This is the character that the player will control for the entirety of Vulpin Adventure.

Appearance

General Description:

Vulpins are short, bipedal creatures, only standing at 3'3"ft. They have long pointy ears and a short snout, and they are furry creatures despite looking reptilian in appearance. They also have short front arms and thicker back legs much like a raptor, ending with a long tail tipped with a tuft of fur. A short mohawk extends from the forehead to the neck, and there is also a fur collar growing around their neck. A small tuft of hair is also present in the back legs behind the knees. Their colors can greatly vary from individual and is determined by the preference of their owner.

Personality

  • Easily Pleased: Vulpins are easy to care for as they are rather easily pleased. When vulpins are sad, all they need is a good pet on the head or some food for their happiness to go back up.
  • Adventurous: Vulpins love exploring with their owner. Vulpins grow sad if they are remain home too long without any attention.
  • Weak when sad: When sad, Vulpins will lose their will to fight and start performing poorly in battles.

Goals

  • Restoring the Starstone to save the world (Succeeded.)

Other

Standard Tactics: The Player will analyze the opponent's type before guiding their vulpin on how to fight, either ordering them to physically attack or to use one of its many spells. If the player notices their Vulpin is in trouble, they can assist them by changing their current equipment mid-battle, restore their HP by feeding them Banapples or restore thier MP by feeding them Starberry.

  • Unique Weaknesses: A sad vulpin will lose its will to fight, leading to it perfoming poorly in combat. A Vulpin's mood can be affected by being heavily damage, which can lead it to become sad. Vulpin requires MP to cast its spells.

Trivia

  • With the four unlockable colors, Vulpin has a total of 144 different coloration.
  • Strangely the vulpin's main color in the title screen is teal, a color not featured in game.
  • Is the only monster with access to the moves Defend and Meditate.
  • A Vulpin's iris color is dependent on their secondary color.
