"Mature Content"
This character or verse has mature themes and concepts, thus those of young age are ill-advised to look through these.

Background

Hallow is the main protagonist of Versus. He's the 11th Hero, who fights the 11th Demon Lord Jachi but is defeated.

Nine years prior to the series's events, Zaybi taught Hallow the basics of summoning spells. At some point, Hallow was selected to train to become one of the 47 Heroes.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Hallow’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Introduction Arc
Confident in their victory, Ario seeks confirmation from Hallow, who appears visibly anxious, with Panepane offering him water to calm his nerves. Hallow explains his nervousness stems from the weight of responsibility he feels after hearing the king’s words. Panepane playfully mocks him, causing some frustration, but Ario reassures him by praising his heart as the true source of a hero's strength. The two make a pact to celebrate once they defeat the Great Demon King, inspiring Hallow.

Six months later, Hallow receives news from the kingdom that Bolst, Fecaccio, Alicia, Liwan, Abyss, and Macbuk have been defeated by their respective Demon Lords. Despite his concern over Ario’s disappearance, Hallow remains focused on his mission. After Panepane remarks that no one would be foolish enough to fight a losing battle, Hallow declares that he will be the one to do so and confront the Demon Lord alone. The sight of the Hero’s Blade glowing, signaling Hallow’s unbroken will, motivates his team to follow him into battle. Upon reaching Demon Lord Jachi’s chamber, Hallow watches in horror as Jachi kills his party. In a rage, he strikes Jachi, managing only a minor wound, and after several failed attempts to land another hit, Jachi severely injures him and shatters the Hero's Blade. Jachi ultimately throws Hallow out of his castle, with Panepane rushing after him.

Hallow dreams of his childhood while unconscious, recalling when his older brother Zaybi taught him summoning magic by conjuring an unusual apple from another world, a concept that puzzled Hallow. He is awakened by Panepane, who explains they were saved by strangers, soon revealed to be Zaybi and his disciples. Hallow, feeling inadequate to face a Demon Lord, is reassured by Zaybi, who shares the mage squad's plan to summon another world while they buy time. However, demons attack during the summoning, and though Hallow feels despair, Zaybi reassures him they won’t fight alone. Shortly after, a gun-armed squad led by Keila appears, and after defeating the demons, they plead for Zaybi, Hallow, and the others to save them.

As Hallow tries to process the chaotic situation, Keila explains their intent to summon other humans, confirming they too have enemies. After an attack from robots, Zaybi's magic saves them, leading Hallow to reflect on how his brother always brings hope in dire times. Demons attack next, and though Hallow initially prepares to fight, Zaybi advises restraint. After witnessing Jyu's death, Hallow saves Keila and Freen with his Hero’s Blade, but it loses power due to his fear of the demons. Kiva takes advantage of this moment, but Hallow cleverly throws his sword to lure enemies toward an Advanced Robot, whose intervention saves him from Kiva’s attack. They flee using Group Flight Magic back to the fortress, with the robot indirectly saving Hallow again.

At the fortress, Hallow awakens to find Zaybi by his side and learns about the condition of his comrades and the loss of some gun-armed humans. Feeling weak and unsure of what to do next, Hallow is shown that multiple worlds have become connected, with refugees from these realms scattered across their own. Zaybi plans a rescue mission for the survivors, but initially intends to go with only Keila and the squad. Hallow insists on helping, believing it's his duty as a warrior. Zaybi agrees, and despite Hallow's injury, Keila praises his strength.

During a later mission, Hallow’s group is ambushed by mole-like beasts, which flee in fear of a larger, mountain-like monster. They encounter a giant humanoid creature devouring a human leg, and though Keila attempts to use a grenade, Hallow stops her upon spotting a nearby family. Zaybi creates a fog to distract the monster, allowing them to rescue the survivors. The monster clears the fog with a breath, but the group has already fled. When they reach a dead end, Keila uses a zip line to escape, with the monster in pursuit. However, the mole beasts reappear, attacking the giant, and Hallow watches as the two species fight before escaping with more survivors.

Later, Zaybi asks for ideas to overcome their desperate situation, and Hallow suggests using the natural enemies' conflicts to their advantage, recalling what he had seen earlier. A human from Celestia dismisses his idea as childish fantasy, but Hallow defends himself, explaining that he witnessed these conflicts firsthand. Zaybi supports the idea, having also seen such rivalries between robots, demons, and giants. Despite criticism from other humans, Zaybi manipulates the situation by claiming his own natural enemy is the strongest, sparking a chain reaction that mirrors Hallow’s plan. As the enemies clash, Hallow pleads for peace until Zaybi reveals his true intentions, showing his faith in Hallow's idea.

In a tense moment, Pakkya grabs Zaybi in frustration over the lack of a concrete plan, prompting Hallow to step in and ask Pakkya to release his brother. Surprised by Hallow's strength, Pakkya is complimented by Samone. Zaybi defuses the situation by asking Hallow to let go, which he does. Pakkya continues to criticize Hallow’s idea, but the hero calmly replies that he never saw a demon fight before. Though Pakkya dismisses the idea, Hallow describes the robot and demon battles as extraordinary. Masayoshi suggests hiding and waiting for natural enemies to destroy each other, but Hallow believes demons would still chase them. Glasp supports Masayoshi’s idea, and the group agrees. Zaybi commends Hallow’s bravery, using him as an example. Just then, Ario makes an unexpected return, exciting Hallow.

Titans vs. The Neo-Humans Arc
Hallow approaches Ario after noticing him trying to chat with Keila, and asks why he woke up so early after their long journey. Hallow confesses that he couldn’t sleep well due to concerns about their plan to make natural enemies fight each other. Ario then inquires about Hallow’s injured arm and broken sword, prompting Hallow to explain his defeat against Jachi. Curious about Ario’s battle, Hallow asks him how it went, but Ario hesitates and stutters. Despite this, Hallow encourages him, and Ario responds by saying Hallow hasn’t changed at all.

During a strategy meeting, Ario reveals that giants are closing in on the fortress and they have only two days left to act. He gives advice on how to proceed, earning Hallow’s admiration. Glasp then unveils what they call the "Hallow Plan," which causes Hallow to object, assuming it means he’ll be fighting on the frontlines. The others clarify that the plan involves using the natural enemies to fight each other, not putting Hallow directly into battle. The strategy requires someone to act as a decoy slave for the Giants, luring them to the New Humanity area. Hallow insists on volunteering for the task, but Keila scolds him for his recklessness and immaturity. Hallow defends his desire to help, but Ario punches him, reminding him that he’s not suited for the role, and offers to take it on himself.

As Ario prepares to carry out the "Hallow Plan" with his team, Hallow wishes him luck. Later, when Kira returns with news of the mission's outcome, Hallow anxiously asks about Ario. Upon hearing that his friend has been imprisoned, Hallow leaves the room in anger. He finds some comfort in watching children from different worlds playing together, but when asked about his arm, he tries to appear strong and accidentally frightens the kids. Reflecting on the situation, he mentally thanks Ario, but then notices something approaching.

Demons vs Aliens Arc
Hallow prepares for a duel with Kiva, who agrees to the fight under the condition that if Hallow wins, the demon will never attack the base again. Kiva is surprised by Hallow’s newfound courage, and Hallow manages to stab him. However, Kiva breaks his promise, ordering his demon soldiers to attack. Overwhelmed with guilt for not living up to the role of a true hero, Hallow vows to take down every demon. Before long, the mages from Sorcerion and soldiers from The Mecha Ordinance come to his aid. Pakkya rushes in to help Hallow, but not before headbutting him, scolding him for trying to throw his life away, which would dishonor those like Braginte who had already fallen. Hallow, still unable to forgive himself for Ario's fate, agrees, and the two quickly dispatch the incoming demons.

While Kiva is momentarily distracted by the arrival of the Madalans, Hallow seizes the opportunity to ambush him. However, Kiva dodges the attack and counters with a painful kick. Exhausted after battling the Demon Army, Hallow is on the verge of defeat when one of the Madalans lets out a screech. Kiva shifts his attention to the aliens, attacking them, but Pakkya seizes the moment to pull Hallow to safety. Pakkya suggests they lure Kiva away from the base since Kiva is clearly targeting Hallow. Though their escape fails, the Madalans reach Kiva just in time, giving Hallow a chance to recover. Watching the powerful aliens, Hallow recalls the same feeling of helplessness he had during his encounter with Jachi.

A Madalan interrogates one of the demon soldiers, who accuses the humans—specifically Hallow—of causing the chaos. Keila’s squad attempts to shoot the Madalan, but their efforts are useless as the aliens target every human in the fortress. Hallow signals Pakkya to attack, but before they can act, a revived Kiva strikes the alien first. Hallow and Pakkya stand by, watching the battle between demons and aliens, when three of Jachi’s elite combatants arrive on the scene. In the midst of battle, Panepane rushes to Hallow, warning him that an extremely dangerous enemy is approaching, leaving the hero in shock.

Amid the chaos, Hallow retrieves Gyuta, who reveals his plan to finish Zaybi’s incantation but lacks the mana to do so. Kira sacrifices itself to lend the needed mana. As the teleportation circle nears completion, Gyuta urges Hallow to use it before it’s too late, reminding him of how much Zaybi spoke of him with pride at the mage training center. Hallow then rushes toward Zaybi, who reaches out to him.

While escaping from the fortress, Galua fires a beam toward it, detecting changes in the atmosphere. Hallow anticipates this and redirects the beam by bouncing off a wall, though this action leaves him stranded while the others teleport to safety. Left behind with Panepane, Hallow is relieved that the others escaped. Pakkya soon arrives, revealing he wasn’t the only one left behind and had sensed the plan beforehand. Together, they save Bastz, who reports the fortress was already empty when he left. Using a Soul Container, Bastz creates a vehicle for them. As they speed away, a horde of demons blocks their path, but they fend them off until a nearly defeated Kiva reappears, nearly killing Hallow before Pakkya throws him from the vehicle. They travel further until the vehicle runs out of fuel, just as Daikokuzan notices them and begins pursuit. As they flee, Hallow hopes Zaybi and the others are safe in the Land of the Lawless.
