Background

Godzilla is a kaiju that is the main protagonist of Godzilla in Hell. It is revealed midway through the story that Ghidorah has brought Godzilla to hell and the rest of the mini-series is him trying to find a way to escape hell.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of ’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Issue 1
After falling down from the mouth of Hell, Godzilla slams into the vestibule and awakens, being greeted by an enormous rock tower rising from the ground engraved with the famous line "ABANDON ALL HOPE YE WHO ENTER HERE." Godzilla destroys the tower with his atomic breath and moves on, passing through two cities with alien architecture before coming across a nuclear reactor. Peering inside, he is ambushed by a grotesque demon resembling a pile of organs crawling out from the smokestacks. Godzilla dispatches the demon and moves on again.

On the horizon an enormous cloud appears, made up of perhaps millions of souls, if not more, which are blown around by a tremendous storm. Godzilla walks through the cloud with difficulty but is confronted, in the "eye" of the storm, by what appears to be another Godzilla. However, it's only a disguise for another demon, this time larger, who puts up a better fight. In the end the demon attempts to devour Godzilla, which proves to be its downfall as a nuclear pulse from Godzilla destroys the demon from the inside out. However, the blast also weakens the ledge of Godzilla's current level, causing him to fall off of the ledge and plunge deeper into Hell.

Issue 2
The issue opens with Godzilla looking out over a city when a demon representation of Rodan appears. Godzilla fights him off and enters an icy region where a demon Anguirus is frozen in ice. Anguirus is freed and the two start to fight, but the ice cracks and Godzilla falls into an endless ocean where he encounters a demon Varan. Varan is quickly deterred by Godzila's atomic breath, and a demon King Ghidorah appears behind him. Ghidorah's appearance creates a whirlpool, likening the situation to the Odyssey's Scylla (a many-headed monster) and Charybdis (a whirlpool). Godzilla is sucked into the whirlpool and the issue ends.

Issue 3
The issue starts off with the world in ruins while Godzilla and SpaceGodzilla are seen fighting in Rio de Janeiro, where the flaming wreckage of MOGUERA and the remains of Kiryu's arm are also located. SpaceGodzilla blasts his Corona Beam at Godzilla at full intensity, causing Godzilla to be consumed in flame. Godzilla withstands the attack, approaches SpaceGodzilla and fires his atomic breath at point blank range, knocking SpaceGodzilla down. After roaring in victory, Godzilla fires his atomic breath directly at his downed foe, but SpaceGodzilla fires his Corona Beam at Godzilla's atomic breath, causing them both to lock and explode, destroying the entire Earth. Godzilla then wakes up in Purgatory, where he sees angels with Mothra's wings, along with God, who takes the form of a multi-eyed mountain with the body parts of several different monsters on it. The angels and God try to persuade Godzilla to join Heaven's army, but Godzilla is not interested in the slightest. After crushing an angel in between his hands, Godzilla is thrown into Hell, where he lands in an icy cavern. There, he is confronted by a swarm of demons and a demonically-enhanced SpaceGodzilla. SpaceGodzilla tackles Godzilla and holds him in place so the demons can go down Godzilla's throat and consume his heart in order to make him a permanent servant of Hell. Luckily, the angels arrive and help Godzilla defeat SpaceGodzilla by giving him a powerful force field. After SpaceGodzilla's death, the angels try to persuade Godzilla to join them again, but Godzilla is still not interested and responds by sealing the entrance to Heaven with his atomic breath. The angels and demons then begin worshiping Godzilla, which yet again does not interest him. Godzilla even eats some of the angels and demons before continuing on his way.

Issue 4
Godzilla is seen roaring in victory after defeating King Ghidorah and Destoroyah. King Ghidorah appears to have scars on his eyes while Destoroyah's horn is missing, most likely torn off by Godzilla. As Godzilla walks away from his defeated foes, King Ghidorah's scars and Destoroyah's horn heal at a very fast rate and the two monsters get back up to resume their battle with Godzilla. Both kaiju attack Godzilla by blasting him with their beam attacks. Godzilla is then thrown into a building by Destoroyah's flying form. As Godzilla recovers from the attack, King Ghidorah attacks Godzilla before Destoroyah's flying and aggregate forms attack him as well. Eventually, King Ghidorah grabs Godzilla and drops him onto a Hellish version of the Tokyo Tower, impaling him. Despite the seemingly fatal injury, Godzilla frees himself and notices that a gigantic wall seems to be blocking the city. Godzilla tries blasting it with his atomic breath, but the wall regenerates every time Godzilla tries to destroy it. As Godzilla is distracted, Destoroyah decapitates him with his horn, only for Godzilla to instantly grow his head back. King Ghidorah and Destoroyah then brutally attack Godzilla in a way to torture him as Godzilla is forced to forever keep fighting them. Eventually, Godzilla allows himself to be defeated while King Ghidorah and Destoroyah turn on each other and fight. After watching the fight, Godzilla tries to destroy the wall again. King Ghidorah and Destoroyah see him and try blasting him with their gravity beams and micro-oxygen beam again, but Godzilla fires his atomic breath while ducking to avoid King Ghidorah and Destoroyah's attack. Godzilla manages to make a hole in the wall and continues on his way while King Ghidorah, Destoroyah, and the Hellish version of Tokyo fade away behind him. Eventually everything, including Godzilla, fades away.

Issue 5
Godzilla appears from a white void, still wandering through Hell. Quick climate changes such as blizzards bombard the King of the Monsters, but Godzilla presses ever onward. Coming to a large bridge at the edge of a waterfall of blood, Godzilla bursts through it and tumbles miles below into a pit of stalactites nearly as large as he is. Swatting some of the spires with his tail in anger, he moves on, unaware of vicious Hellbats emerging from inside the spires. The Hellbats quickly form a large swarm and follow Godzilla, who keeps the swarm at bay with his tail. Nearing the end of his journey, Godzilla comes face to face with his final trial: an impossibly tall mountain with swirling thunderclouds that completely dwarfs even him. At the top of said mountain sleeps the God-demon, a massive demon guarding the entrance to the world of the living. Godzilla tries to blast the demon with his atomic breath, but he can't seem to get it out. Ever determined, the King of the Monsters starts climbing the mountain to face the demon. The demon takes notice and causes a landslide to both knock Godzilla off the mountain and bury him under the rubble. Bursting forth, Godzilla seems to finally give up his last shred of hope of leaving Hell and closes his eyes, allowing the Hellbats to devour him alive. The Hellbats, sensing Godzilla's submission, go in for the kill. Swarming around Godzilla, the Hellbats devour every inch of Godzilla's flesh, leaving only his bones, which collapse into the rubble from the landslide. The Hellbats then begin to fly away, plump and satisfied, when they all suddenly convulse and each grow one eye. The Hellbats then start screeching out miniature versions of Godzilla's roar and fly back to his skeleton, swarming around it and reforming Godzilla's body with their own. The Hellbat-Godzilla then collectively roars at the God-demon in challenge, followed by each and every Hellbat firing its atomic breath simultaneously, thus causing a massive Godzilla-sized atomic blast to slam into the God-demon, killing it. The Hellbat-Godzilla then climbs the mountain and reaches the gate, and in the final page, a fully alive and reformed Godzilla bursts forth from the ocean, back in the world of the living, roaring in his ultimate triumph: he has finally escaped Hell itself.

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Natural Weaponry (Godzilla utilizes his teeth, claws and tail in combat, being able to easily devour many angels and demons with his teeth[28]), Large Size (Building Sized; Noted that the author was inspired by Millennium Series Godzilla when making him, meaning he should share a similar height and weight[29], where he is 55 meters in height[30][31]), Intimidation (Through showcasing the power of his atomic breath, caused the angels to stop trying to convince him to submit to God Mountain and the demons from attacking him, having them worship him instead[32]), Regeneration (At least Mid; Godzilla was able to regenerate from his head being chopped off, growing a new head[33]), Immortality (Limbo; Godzilla is already in hell, being able to repeatedly regenerate his body no matter how he dies[34]), Resurrection (Through killing God-demon and climbing up the mountain, he was able to return back to the Earth and live once more[35]), Absorption (Absorbed the powers of the angels to get a level of power to easily one-shot SpaceGodzilla[36]), Adaptation (Once he uses his Atomic Breath while amplified by the angelic aura, he lost his angelic aura, though seems to have kept the heavenly atomic breath even afterwards[37]), Breath Attack, Heat Manipulation, Energy Projection, & Radiation Manipulation (With his atomic breath, shoots out a beam from his mouth of intense heat and radiation[38]), Explosion Manipulation (Can cause a massive explosion of atomic energy[39]), Consciousness Transferal & Possession (Possessed all the Hellbats to form his body into a concentrated atomic breath that killed God-demon in a single hit[40]).

Resistance to Extreme Heats (Godzilla was set on fire from SpaceGodzilla's corona beam yet was fine[41]. Felt no adverse effects from being in a lava area[42]), Extreme Colds (Moved and fought in an area just fine that was known as "an eternity of ice and frozen devastation"[43]. Traveled in a harsh blizzard, that was creating ice across his body[44]), Mind Manipulation (Completely unaffected by God Mountain's attempted to mind control him[45]. Never once fell to madness despite being stuck in Hell, where even the other Kaiju ended up fighting each other for eternity while Godzilla looked for a way to escape[46]), Erasure (Unaffected by everything being turned into a white void[47]), Consumption & Absorption (Consuming Godzilla allows him to completely possess the target, becoming far stronger in the process[48])

Equipment

Nothing notable.

Notable Techniques

Atomic Breath

Godzilla's signature attack, it boasts high power being an energy attack from his mouth destroying large objects.

Nuclear Pulse

An attack where Godzilla emits atomic energy from all directions near him. He can channel energy into his physical attacks with this move.

Possession

Through letting beings consume or absorb him, Godzilla can possess and transfer his consciousness to all the beings that consumed or absorbed him, and can use them to reform his body or create a new one.

Bare Hands Punch

Godzilla is able to utilize hand to hand tactics in combat, a lesser utilized technique of his from other media.

Body Tackle

Godzilla charges with a full-body tackle, using its massive weight against its opponent.

Tail Swipe

Another signature attack of Godzilla's, he utilizes his tail in various manners for combat, it can be used for crushing, for swatting enemies away, or reaching enemies out of his reach.

Angelic Amplified Atomic Breath

A purple aura atomic breath, even stronger than his regular atomic breath. He used this to destroy a portal to heaven after defeating SpaceGodzilla.

Hellbat Amplified Atomic Breath

An atomic breath made from the millions of Hellbats that compose Godzilla's body each emanating a bright blue light as nuclear energy particles, this beam was so powerful it killed God-demon in one shot while prior Godzilla could not even shoot out an atomic breath.

Angelic Aura

An aura Godzilla received from absorbing the angels powers, the aura made it where he could reflect attacks and take no effect from attacks on the level of SpaceGodzilla, who equally matched him in their prior fight.

Other

Standard Tactics: Godzilla has shown to mainly use his atomic breath along with biting, tail swing, tackles and punching attacks against his opponent.

Weaknesses: Once he uses his Atomic Breath, he will lose his angelic aura, though seems to have kept the potency of its power[52]. His regeneration and immortality are only due to being in hell, upon leaving it he likely loses both of these abilities.

Note: The Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla fight where the planet exploded did not result in Godzilla's death, it is revealed that Ghidorah is the reason Godzilla is in Hell[53], along with it being noted that Godzilla and SpaceGodzilla were fighting in hell[54], along with Earth still being intact at the end of the story when Godzilla resurrects himself[55].
