Background

The S.S. Dolphin is a delivery spaceship that belongs to Captain Olimar in the game Pikmin. It is wrecked when it collides with a comet during a flight on a vacation, and thirty of its pieces end up scattered around the five areas of the Pikmin planet (Later named PNF-404 in Pikmin 3/Pikmin 3 Deluxe); Pikmin involves the collection of these using the Pikmin. The S.S. Dolphin is the ship used to fly to the atmosphere between days in this game.

When Olimar returns to Hocotate with a completely repaired ship at the start of Pikmin 2, the S.S. Dolphin is sold to help pay the Hocotate Freight company's enormous debt caused by Louie. It is then replaced by the Hocotate ship, a direct downgrade in terms of flight capabilities, that both Olimar and Louie must use to return to PNF-404 to acquire large amounts of treasure.

After the events of Pikmin 2, Olimar and Louie return yet again to PNF-404 in Pikmin 3/Pikmin 3 Deluxe to acquire more treasure after Hocotate Freight's President falls into yet another debt. Olimar is yet again with the Hocotate Ship, still needing to rebuy his S.S Dolphin.

Note: This is the S.S Dolphin Pikmin. Although there's no official statement on the canonicity of Hey! Pikmin, several implications suggest that it's an alternate timeline in which the events of Pikmin 3/Pikmin 3 Deluxe never occurred. Furthermore, due to Hey! Pikmin being a spin-off, the canonicity is put into even more question.
