"Mature Content" | |
This character or verse has mature themes and concepts, thus those of young age are ill-advised to look through these. |
Standard Creatures of the Night
Creatures of the Night (otherwise known as Creatures of Chaos) are creatures existing as servants of Chaos in the Castlevania series, who exist to keep the balance between light and dark. They are normally ruled by a Dark Lord, who acts as the opposition to God. They are constantly reborn by Chaos, sometimes changing form and shape from their original state, existing purely to spread chaos worldwide.
Uses
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics: Even the smallest creatures of the night can destroy a bridge[1], one of Dracula's bats easily destroyed a stone ground block[2].
- Immortality: Ageless; The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something being their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[3]. Immortal Metaphysical Aspect; Creatures of the Night can continue to exist even as a spirit and use their spirit form to form bodies out of inanimate material around them[4].
- Acausality: Causality Immunity; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[5]. With their souls being completely free from time[6]. The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something being their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[7].
- Intimidation: Creatures of the nights appearances can cause one to have their body's cells cry out in terror[8].
- Free Will: Creatures of the Night do not follow the hand of God and instead choose of their own free will[9].
- Empowerment: Creatures of the night are empowered by the night[10], becoming stronger when it's night time[11].
- Evolution: Creatures of chaos can inherit evil natures[12] awakening into stronger enemies with new abilities and less weaknesses[13].
- Resurrection: Creatures of chaos can be brought back to life from the power of hate[14]. This has also been shown with slain heads reviving as an angry wraith[15].
- Regeneration: Mid-Godly overtime; Even the castle from Castlevania is a Creature of Chaos, [16] where they are always rebirth from Chaos with each rebirth, the creatures takes a new form[17], with this state being referred to as a "regeneration cycle"[18].
- Invisibility: Creatures of Chaos possess a natural aura of darkness, which makes one unable to see those with an aura of darkness by the naked eye[19].
- Darkness Manipulation & Subjective Reality: Creatures of chaos very existence causes dark powers to flow beyond the control of the Elgos' grimoires, due to them collecting documented information on Dracula and his castle. Causing their power to materialize in the real world in the form of monsters[21]. With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[22].
- Text Manipulation & Plot Manipulation: Passive; Creatures of the night's dark powers allowed them to rewrite the Grimoires to greatly strengthen their dark powers[23]. It is noted by Lucy that the "vital soul" of a monster is the cause of the grimoire chaos[24]. Their vital souls are causing the grimoires contents to be overwritten changing history to things such as Jonathan Morris is now at a disadvantage in battle[25], or Charlotte fading from existence due to them messing with the history of the Grimoires[26], Maria starting to fade because Richter's history is being rewritten[27], where if the books contents change the creatures magic will keep growing and eventually overflow into reality, causing the grimoire to fall into chaos and even more monsters materializing into the real world[28]. The text alterations also make the monsters stronger[29]. With the real world and world of grimoires being one and the same[30].
- Law Manipulation: Creatures of Chaos can alter grimoires, which do not adhere to the laws of reality[31].
- Power Modification: Creatures of the night alterations of the Grimoire can greatly limit the powers of those far stronger then them, such as Jonathan Morris' power being limited due to the alterations[32]. The Chaos of the Grimoire destabilized the magic of the others[33].
Resistances
- Ice Manipulation & Absolute Zero: All enemies in Castlevania III: Dracula's curse can eventually break out of being frozen from Sypha's ice magic[34]. Along with this to protect against ice attacks in series, one normally wears rings that help them resist against absolute zero[35].
- Time Manipulation: All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[36], with their souls being completely free from time[37]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[38], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[39]. Some creatures of chaos are immune to time stop, normally being boss level creatures[40].
- Fate Manipulation: All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[41], with their souls being completely free from time[42], with fate being a truth wound by time[43].
Weaknesses
- Creatures of the night become weaker when exposed to the morning sun[44].
- Garlic significantly weakens creatures of the night[45], and causes demons to die if its placed on the ground[46].
- If a vital soul is defeated, the grimoire will revert back to its original content[47].
Vampires
Vampires are timeless, undead creatures that appear as the main antagonists in the Castlevania series, where they aim to envelop the world in chaos and darkness.
Originating from Slavic and ancient folklore, these beings are thought to come from the souls of the restless dead, individuals shunned by religion, or those who dabble in dark magic. Some legends suggest they may even arise from people who have made sinister bargains. Vampires are infamous for their insatiable thirst for blood and possess a variety of dark powers, such as superhuman strength, the ability to shapeshift, flight, teleportation, and control over electricity and fire. They can turn others into vampires by sharing their blood and are vulnerable to sunlight, holy items, or having their hearts destroyed. In some narratives, they also emit a hissing sound when agitated.
In Castlevania, vampires differ from traditional depictions. They retain many of their classic traits but also have the ability to perform black magic. Some can tap into a force known as Chaos, which embodies all evil, allowing them to enhance their abilities, although this often leads to further corruption.
Dracula, the iconic vampire in this series, showcases unique powers. He can absorb the malevolence of humanity to resurrect himself after extended periods, summon lesser demons, and inflict curses of decay, plague, and famine on the land. He can also deepen the corruption within human hearts, suggesting that his abilities stem from being chosen by Chaos as a Dark Lord, with only a select few able to gain such powers.
In the Castlevania series, vampires are depicted as a profound menace to humanity. While their exact origins remain unclear, it’s evident they have existed long before Dracula’s rise. They can emerge either by renouncing their humanity—often with the help of magical artifacts—or through being transformed by another vampire.
Uses
- Superhuman Physical Characteristics: Vampires are considered far larger threats then standard creature of the night monsters[48].
- Immortality: Ageless; Vampires defy God's decree that life should be limited, and exist for eternity[49], with Mathias noting he has eternal life[50]. Aeon notes that vampires exist for eternity[51]. Walter is noted to be a vampire that has eternal life[52]. The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something being their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[53]. Immortal Metaphysical Aspect; Vampires will someday come back to life despite them being killed due to being immortal[54].
- Acausality: Causality Immunity; All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[55]. With their souls being completely free from time[56]. The biggest hindrance to humans when attempting to accomplish something being their limited lifespans, a limitation that cannot be overcome, however dwellers of the darkness do not apply to the laws of the human world, ignoring such limitations[57].
- Free Will: Vampires do not follow the hand of God and instead choose of their own free will[58], defying God's decree[59].
- Enhanced Senses: Vampires can smell that Reinhardt Scheneider and Carrie Fernandez smell different from the usual adventurer[60].
- Flight: Vampires can either naturally levitate grow wings to fly[62], turn into a bat[63], or into mist[64].
- Empowerment: Vampires are loved by the night, making them so powerful that vampires like Walter Bernhard never been defeated before Leon Belmont gained the vampire killer[66]. Noted by Leon that the night should help Joachim Armster as well due to him being a vampire, with the only reason it doesn't is due to Walter holding the ebony stone[67].
- Resurrection: Even if one somehow manages to kill a vampire, they will someday come back to life despite them being killed due to being immortal[68].
- Transformation: Shapeshifting; Vampires can assume the shape of a wolf, a bat or fog[69]. Vampires can disguise themselves as huamns[70].
- Teleportation: Vampires possess the ability to teleport freely[71]. Even non-threatening vampires such as Rosa, fade out from view[72].
- Animal Manipulation: Bats serve under the control of vampires[75], being freely spawnned by any vampire[76].
- Cloth Manipulation: A vampire's blood can transform clothes, such as Hector combining a vampire's blood with a prince's clothes to get Dracula's clothes[77].
- Electricity Manipulation: Vampires can sometimes have electricity form around them as they transform[78].
- Soul Manipulation: The candles in Castlevania are people's souls that were taken by Death or by vampires[79].
- Life-Force Absorption: Vampires can consume one's lifeforce[80], allowing them to heal themselves through biting into a victim[81].
- Vampirification: Vampires can turn others into vampires[82], Walter turned Rinaldo's daughter into a vampire[83].
- Invisibility: Vampires possess natural aura of darkness, which makes one unable to see those with an aura of darkness by the naked eye[84].
Resistances
- Time Manipulation: All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[87], with their souls being completely free from time[88]. With time in Castlevania being so potent that not even eternity can withstand time[89], along with even artificial life being subject to the laws of time[90].
- Death Manipulation: "Death" loses all meaning for Vampires, as they[91] defy God's decree that life should be limited, and exist for eternity[92]. Where even if one "kills" a vampire they will simply just come back as they are not bound to death[93].
- Fate Manipulation: All immortal beings disrupt the flow of time according to Aeon[94], with their souls being completely free from time[95], with fate being a truth wound by time[96].
- Law Manipulation: Vampires defy God's decree that life should be limited, and exist for eternity[97].
Weaknesses
- After a vampire is sufficiently weakened, the sunlight can kill them[98]. Otherwise Vampires can stand out in the sunlight just fine[99]. Though some weaker vampires can have the sun burn them overtime, killing them[100].
- Oak Stakes are able to break through the magic of a weakened vampire[101].
- Defeating a vampire will stop the effects of someone they have bitten, but only before they've turned[102]. This is shown in Harmony of Dissonance where through Juste killing Dracula's Wraith, the bite marks on Lydie have vanished[103].
- Vampries refelections do not appear on mirrors, making them easier to identify[104].

- ↑ WN: Last question. Why does Dracula keep putting meat inside the walls of his castle?
KI: You should ask, why do they eat it! I've thought about this stuff.
I've actually thought about the candles. The candles are people's souls that were taken by Death or by the vampires. In Japan there are candles that represent life. So, when you release the souls from the candles by whipping them, they give you a "thank you" present. Thank-you hearts, or thank-you holy water.
