I am Captain Ginyu, a soldier so elite that even crying children are silent in my presence!
~ Captain Ginyu

Background

Captain Ginyu is the captain of the legendary Ginyu Force, an elite squadron that serves directly under Lord Frieza as the second hand of the Frieza Force. As a child, Ginyu would abuse his unique Body Change technique to gain fame and fortune with his peers, notably by switching bodies with rich and popular kids he knew.

As he grew up, Ginyu’s special abilities and overwhelming power caught the attention of an alien named Cooler, who recruited Ginyu into Cooler’s Armoured Squadron. Ginyu was then put up against his comrade, Salza, as they fought over leadership of the team. Although the result of the battle is unknown, Ginyu left the Squadron regardless.

Ginyu was soon then recruited by Cooler’s younger brother, Frieza, who decided to make him the leader of his very own group; the Ginyu Force. Ginyu would become partners with four other aliens, known as Jeice, Burter, Recoome, and Guldo, and their team would become known for their eccentric poses.

The Ginyu Force was soon brought to Planet Namek by Frieza, who requested that they bring Scouters for him, along with destroying those who were trying to steal the Dragon Balls from him. They were pitted against the Dragon Team, including Son Gohan, Krillin, Vegeta, and Son Goku, who swiftly beat the team.

With only Captain Ginyu left, he opted to switch bodies with Son Goku, although he soon found out that he was completely unable to use Goku’s full power. As he attempted to then switch bodies with Vegeta, a frog intercepted his body swap, and ruined his plans.

Once everyone on Namek was teleported to Earth, Ginyu in the frog’s body was brought to Earth as well, where he lived out the rest of his days; unable to fight in his new form, and rendered completely harmless.

Statistics

Key: Base Form | Goku's Body | Bulma's Body

Tier: 5-B | Low 5-B | 10-B

Name: Ginyu

Origin: Dragon Ball

Sex: Male (Female in Bulma’s Body)

Age: Unknown

Classification: Captain of the Ginyu Force

Status: Unknown (Timelines such as Dragon Ball Super reveal that Ginyu has been alive on Earth the entire time, while other timelines such as Dragon Ball GT he is shown that he was dead during the Super 17 Saga, with the main manga timeline not confirming whether he died or not)

Alignment: Neutral Evil (Although Captain Ginyu does carry out evil deeds, he does not do so in an unnecessary extent the way that Frieza or the barbaric Saiyans would. Ginyu seeks fun in battle above all else, only committing his evil deeds after having won a satisfying match, unless Frieza directly commands him to get to the point)

Dimensionality: 3-D

Attack Potency: Planet level (Ginyu’s power level is 120,000, which is far above around Vegeta’s power level putting him far above Kaioken x4 Kamehameha) | Small Planet level (Ginyu’s power level dropped to 23,000 with Goku’s body, which is around Vegeta’s power level who is 44 times above BoZ Piccolo) | Average Human level (Bulma is a regular human)

Durability: Planet level | Small Planet level | Average Human level

Striking Strength: Planet Class | Small Planet Class | Average Human Class

Lifting Strength: Class M, likely Higher (Superior to King Piccolo Saga Goku, who fused his untapped potential with the Oozaru within him, making his power tenfold above his previous self who moved a giant boulder with a lot of effort)

Travel Speed: At least High Hypersonic, likely far higher (Is far superior to Saiyan Saga Goku, who flew over Snake Way in 28 hours, at around 5000 m/s) | High Hypersonic (Is somewhat equal to Saiyan Saga Goku, who flew over Snake Way in 28 hours, at around 5000 m/s) | Average Human

Combat Speed: At least FTL (Should be superior to Saiyan Saga Goku’s Kaio-Ken x4. Kaio-Ken x4 should promptly make Goku at least four times faster than Piccolo who should be far beyond 22nd Budokai Son Goku, who could avoid a point blank laser beam, could avoid the Kamehameha which could reach the moon in a very shot timeframe, along with tagging someone who could react to a Kamehameha) | At least FTL | Average Human

Reaction Speed: At least FTL | At least FTL (Due to his power level of 23,000, he should be somewhat equal to Saiyan Saga Goku and thus far beyond 22nd Budokai Son Goku, who could avoid a point blank laser beam, could avoid the Kamehameha which could reach the moon in a very shot timeframe, along with tagging someone who could react to a Kamehameha) | Average Human

Stamina: Superhuman (Should be comparable to, if not superior to, early-Dragon Ball Z Goku, who travelled across Snake Way mainly non-stop for over 100 days. Swapping bodies with others can completely rejuvenate his stamina)

Range: Standard Melee, Interstellar with Ki Attacks (Ki attacks can reach out of the planet and to other planets. All ki attacks should be comparable to Goku's kamehameha, which reached all the way to the sun)

Intelligence: Genius (As the leader of the Ginyu Force, Ginyu is a very respected and intelligent fighter. When he recognizes that he’s losing a fight, he will tactfully harm himself before using his Body Change. He can even take on warriors such as Son Goku, who have decades of experience)

Powers and Abilities

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Genius Intelligence, Martial Arts (Captain Ginyu can fight on par with martial artists such as Son Goku and Krillin), Acrobatics, Flight, Enhanced Senses, Chi Manipulation & Ki Manipulation (Ginyu can generate Ki for attacks. All beings in Dragon Ball have ki , the very life force energy of all characters, ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even block attacks that would otherwise kill them from raising their guard, higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them. A users ki aura can exert itself as a weapon to attack), Attack Reflection (All Ki users are able to reflect attacks just by being stronger than their opponent. Examples include, Nappa deflecting a masenko from Son Gohan, Son Gohan being able to bounce back the spirit bomb, Son Goku deflecting a crusher ball from Jeice, Frieza deflecting a Final Burst Cannon from Vegeta, Son Goku reflecting multiple death beams back to back from Frieza, and Future Trunks being able to completely repel an energy blast with his hand from a Frieza Soldier just by being much stronger than them), Homing Attack (Ki users can create attacks that will home in and chase a target forever), Power Absorption & Transferal (Ki users can transfer their ki to others and absorb the ki given to them from others), Aura (He can surround himself in an aura of Ki. Has an aura of ki surrounding him whenever he exerts ki), Vibration Manipulation (Powerful ki users can cause the very ground itself to shake when they power up), Pseudo-Fear Manipulation, Limited Soul Manipulation & Pain Manipulation (Ki is the manifestation of one’s lifeforce, along with the aura giving one the feeling of being crushed, exerting fear into the target, sometimes making them incapable of moving as their body is instinctively stuck due to the sheer difference in power), Energy Manipulation (Ki is the latent power in one's body, this latent power allows them to form and create energy from controlling their ki, which can be used to shoot out energy blast), Explosion Manipulation (Ki attacks can create massive explosions, control the ki to set off a huge explosion under the enemy, or in front of them), Heat Manipulation (Ki user's ki attacks produce heat allowing them to cook and grill animals and raw meat[1][2], along with leaving behind steam after the attacks hit an area, showing its latent heat), Forcefield Creation (Ki users such as Cell can generate forcefields around themselves. These forcefields can be expanded, and used to protect others and defend against attacks far higher then the user), Self-Destruction (Ki users in Dragon Ball are able to release all of the energy within them to cause a massive self-destruction of energy that normally kills the user and turns them into dust though one can control it to surviving but having no stamina or energy left), Light Manipulation (Ki can be used as a flash of light), Light Manipulation (Ki can be used as a flash of light), Non-Physical Interaction (Those with Ki were able to harm the Ghost Warriors), Healing (Ki can be used to heal beings, allowing them to survive even with half their torso, it can also heal from near death), Fusionism (Raditz can perform the Fusion Dance), Body Swapping (Captain Ginyu can swap souls with another person, essentially switching bodies with them), Telekinesis (Ginyu can telekinetically lift objects), Fusionism (Captain Ginyu can perform the Fusion Dance).

Limited Resistance to Durability Negation (Ki users can focus their energy to localize an object to a specific spot to stop them from attempting to destroy their organs/insides)

Reactive Power Level (As a Saiyan, his power level will increase after a tough battle. A saiyan’s power increases if they survive from injuries in battle, with their powers allowing them to greatly exceed their previous levels beforehand), Rage Power (Mere rage can amplify a saiyan to a level that's believed to be a myth even by the highest levels of saiyans in the verse), Damage Boost (Saiyans attack power rises when health is low).

Limited Resistance to Durability Negation (Ki users can focus their energy to localize an object to a specific spot to stop them from attempting to destroy their organs/insides)

Standard Equipment

*Attack Ball: This round space pod only has room for one person, which the Ginyu Force used to travel from planet to planet; notably, they were seen using this space pod to travel to Planet Namek.

*Ginyu Force Armor: Due to being a part of the Frieza Force, Ginyu has Battle Armor. This armor is unbelievably durable, but also incredibly stretchy; the armor can stretch so much that it fits around Saiyans when they turn into a Great Ape.

  • Scouter: Technology developed by the Tuffle race, but adopted by the Saiyans after the Tuffles were wiped out. This advanced piece of technology can detect the presence of life forms, calculate anyone’s battle power, and can also be used for telecommunication.

Notable Techniques

  • Flight: With a mastery of Ki control, Ginyu is able to fly at incredibly high speeds.
  • Ki Blast: Using Ki, Ginyu can concentrate it into a ball that he uses as a projectile attack.
  • Body Change: Through emitting an energy beam from his mouth, Captain Ginyu can swap souls with whomever his beam makes contact with; essentially swapping bodies with them.
  • Galaxy Dynamite: Ginyu launches a barrage of purple ki blasts.
  • Milky Cannon: Ginyu focuses Ki in his palm, before launching off a giant purple blast.
  • Kamehameha: A legendary blue beam of ki, coined by Master Roshi. Ginyu obtained this technique when he took over Goku’s body.

Other

Standard Tactics: Ginyu will employ hand to hand tactics along with ki attacks. If the opponent is shown to be too strong for him he will attempt to swap bodies with them while damaging his own.

Weaknesses: Due to the nature of ki draining stamina and energy, Dragon Ball characters ki usage requires them to usually use their higher levels of energy in short bursts, allowing them to not be able to tank or die to far lower attacks such as attacks that have destroyed the planets of several worlds. When Ginyu body swaps, he is shown to be weaker than the original owner of the body. This is shown when he body swapped with Goku, in which he was unable to utilize Goku’s true power. If something gets in the way of his body swap it can prove a lot of trouble for him, shown when he accidentally swapped with a frog.

Note: Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up[3].
