Captain Ginyu

From The Codex
I am Captain Ginyu, a soldier so elite that even crying children are silent in my presence!
~ Captain Ginyu

Background

Captain Ginyu is the captain of the legendary Ginyu Force, an elite squadron that serves directly under Lord Frieza as the second hand of the Frieza Force. As a child, Ginyu would abuse his unique Body Change technique to gain fame and fortune with his peers, notably by switching bodies with rich and popular kids he knew.

As he grew up, Ginyu’s special abilities and overwhelming power caught the attention of an alien named Cooler, who recruited Ginyu into Cooler’s Armoured Squadron. Ginyu was then put up against his comrade, Salza, as they fought over leadership of the team. Although the result of the battle is unknown, Ginyu left the Squadron regardless.

Ginyu was soon then recruited by Cooler’s younger brother, Frieza, who decided to make him the leader of his very own group; the Ginyu Force. Ginyu would become partners with four other aliens, known as Jeice, Burter, Recoome, and Guldo, and their team would become known for their eccentric poses.

The Ginyu Force was soon brought to Planet Namek by Frieza, who requested that they bring Scouters for him, along with destroying those who were trying to steal the Dragon Balls from him. They were pitted against the Dragon Team, including Son Gohan, Krillin, Vegeta, and Son Goku, who swiftly beat the team.

With only Captain Ginyu left, he opted to switch bodies with Son Goku, although he soon found out that he was completely unable to use Goku’s full power. As he attempted to then switch bodies with Vegeta, a frog intercepted his body swap, and ruined his plans.

Once everyone on Namek was teleported to Earth, Ginyu in the frog’s body was brought to Earth as well, where he lived out the rest of his days; unable to fight in his new form, and rendered completely harmless.

General Information

Name: Ginyu

Origin: Dragon Ball

Sex: Male (Female in Bulma’s Body)

Age: Unknown

Classification: Alien

Species: Unknown

Occupation: Captain of the Ginyu Force

Status: Alive (In Dragon Ball Super it is revealed that Ginyu has been alive on Earth the entire time)

Alignment: Neutral Evil (Although Captain Ginyu does carry out evil deeds, he does not do so in an unnecessary extent the way that Frieza or the barbaric Saiyans would. Ginyu seeks fun in battle above all else, only committing his evil deeds after having won a satisfying match, unless Frieza directly commands him to get to the point)

Key: Base Form | Goku's Body | Bulma's Body | Tagoma's Body

Grade: B | B | D | B

Tier: 7-A | 7-A | 10-B | At least 6-C

Cardinality: Finite

Dimensionality: 3-D

Power Source: Ki (All beings in Dragon Ball[1][2][3] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[4], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[5] block attacks that would otherwise[6] kill them from[7] raising their guard[8], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[9])

Attack Potency: Metropolis level (Ginyu’s power level is 120,000, making him above the likes of Nappa who casually destroyed a city and stood within the blast without having any damage, and Raditz who can cause explosions dwarfing the mountains, which results in these levels of energy) | Metropolis level (Ginyu’s power level dropped to 23,000 with Goku’s body, which is above Vegeta’s power level) | Average Human level (Bulma is a regular human) | At least Island level (When possessing Tagoma, could easily fight against a base Golden Frieza Saga Son Gohan, with Gohan needing to go super saiyan to beat him[10], which should put him far beyond Second Form Cell, who destroyed several islands with several blasts)

Durability: Metropolis level, Higher with Guard Up (Ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even block attacks that would otherwise kill them from raising their guard) | Metropolis level, Higher with Guard Up | Average Human level, Higher with Guard Up | At least Island level

Striking Strength: Metropolis Class | Metropolis Class | Average Human Class | At least Island Class

Lifting Strength: Class 1 (Superior to Early Saiyan Saga Goku, who before training with King Kai is able to barely move around and jump in gravity that multiplies his weight by ten times, where he's naturally 62 kg, thus making him 620 kg on King Kai's planet) | Class 1 | Regular Human | At least Class 50 (Superior to Golden Frieza Saga Son Gohan, who is comparable or superior too Buu Saga Super Saiyan Son Goku, who could casually fight while carrying 40 tons)

Travel Speed: High Hypersonic (Superior to Saiyan Saga Son Goku with Goku being capable of traveling over a million of kilometers in two days which results in these speeds) | High Hypersonic (Still superior to Saiyan Saga Son Goku | Average Human | At least Massively Hypersonic+ (Superior to Frieza fight Son Goku, who traveled to the Freiza fight at these speeds)

Attack Speed: High Hypersonic | High Hypersonic | Average Human | At least Massively Hypersonic+

Reaction Speed: High Hypersonic (Far beyond 22nd Budokai Son Goku, who could dodge a mouth blast from Tambourine, which he used to tag the flying nimbus where even post King Kai training Goku used the flying nimbus to make it to the saiyans implying it is at least comparable to his flight speed by then, with Goku being capable of traveling over a million of kilometers in two days which results in these speeds) | High Hypersonic | Average Human | At least Massively Hypersonic+

Stamina: Superhuman (Should be comparable to, if not superior to, early-Dragon Ball Z Goku, who travelled across Snake Way mainly non-stop for over 100 days. Swapping bodies with others can completely rejuvenate his stamina)

Range: Standard Melee, Interstellar with Ki Attacks (Ki attacks can reach out of the planet and to other planets. All ki attacks should be comparable to Goku's kamehameha, which reached all the way to the sun)

Intelligence: Average Intelligence

Knowledge: Expert level (As the leader of the Ginyu Force, Ginyu is a very respected fighter. When he recognizes that he’s losing a fight, he will tactfully harm himself before using his Body Change. He can even take on warriors such as Son Goku, who have decades of experience)

Powers and Techniques

Chi Manipulation & Ki Manipulation (All beings in Dragon Ball[11][12][13] have ki, the very life force energy of all characters[14], ki allows a fighter to extend beyond their bodies limits, allowing them to even[15] block attacks that would otherwise[16] kill them from[17] raising their guard[18], higher level users can lower their own durability to allow people far below them to fatally wound them[19]), Aura (Projection; A users ki aura can exert itself[20] as a weapon to attack[21]. Explosive; Ki users through powering up can form an entire aura around themself, radiating their immense power[22], where depending on their immense strength, can cause them to explode their aura outwards to remove excess ki from themself[23]. Mood Reflection; Goku and Piccolo Jr. with their auras and their stern concentration on each other reflected in their electric auras, even shooting electricity at each other[24]), Emotional Empowerment (It's noted that ki users can receive energy through one cheering them on[25]. Ki users can be greatly increased by their emotions and beliefs, Son Goku explains that Son Gohan needs to remember the time he fought Cell and bring out all of the power he has, this way he can lose to no one[26] where it's shown during the Cell beam clash that he was holding back greatly out of fear of destroying the earth but from being cheered on and using all of his power within him, he was able to overpower Cell[27]), Attack Reflection (All Ki users are able to reflect attacks just by being stronger than their opponent[28]. Examples include, Nappa deflecting a masenko from Son Gohan[29], Son Gohan being able to bounce back the spirit bomb[30], Son Goku deflecting a crusher ball from Jeice[31], Frieza deflecting a Final Burst Cannon from Vegeta[32], Son Goku reflecting multiple death beams back to back from Frieza[33], and Future Trunks being able to completely repel an energy blast with his hand from a Frieza Soldier just by being much stronger than them[34]), Homing Attack (Ki users can create attacks that will home in and chase a target forever[35]), Penetration Damage (Bladed Penetration; Ki users can conjure up a circle of chi that is sharp and can cut through enemies far more powerful then themselves[36][37], along with this they can conjure ki as a means to stab through an opponent[38]), Weapon Creation (Ki users can create energy weapons out of their attacks[39]), Power Absorption & Energy Transferal (Ki users can transfer their ki to others and absorb the ki given to them from others[40]), Attack Nullification (Ki Energy Based; Those with ki can nullify attacks of lesser ki with their ki alone[41][42]. They can also catch and nullify ki attacks around their level through focusing enough[43]), Power Nullification (Ki Energy Based; Through having greater ki, one can nullify the powers done through ki attacks, such as Frieza being able to nullify a hakai ball[44], which fully destroys a target[45], though he is unable to resist a hakai ball from Toppo due to him being stronger[46], this ability however only works on ki, attacks unrelated, characters cannot resist through being stronger, such as how Vegeta, Krillin, & Son Gohan are unable to resist Guldo's psychic powers[47], along with even the likes of Son Goku[48]), Forcefield Creation (Ki users such as Cell can generate forcefields around themselves[49]. These forcefields can be expanded[50], and used to protect others and defend against attacks far higher then the user[51]), Super Armor (Through releasing one's ki, they enter a state known as "Hyper Mode"[52], in this state they do not flinch from weak melee attacks[53]), Self-Destruction (Ki users in Dragon Ball are able to[54] release all of the energy within them[55] to cause a massive[56] self-destruction of energy that normally kills the user and turns them into dust[57] though one can control it to surviving but having no stamina or energy left[58]), Binding (Energy Binding; Ki Users can use their ki to bind targets to objects, making them unable to escape even if they're of equal power[59], however, those stronger than the ki user can easily break out of it[60]), Dreaming Existence (Characters in Shin Budokai have shown to create physical bodies in alternate timelines through dreaming[61]), Non-Standard Interaction (Intangible Interaction; Those with ki can block intangible attacks when they focus and notices them[62]. Space-Time Interaction (3+1-D); Characters can blast space-time distortions to close them[63]), Healing (Healing Singular Targets, Advanced Healing; Ki can be used to heal beings, allowing them to survive even with half their torso[64], it can also heal from near death[65]), Resurrection (Resurrection of the Deceased (Limited); Ki users can resurrect ones heart from death if their ki beams hit their heart, restarting it[66]. Resurrection from Exhaustion; Can heal downed allies to give them ki back, reviving them[67]), Intimidation & Spirit Manipulation (Ki is the manifestation of one’s lifeforce[68], along with the aura giving one the feeling of being crushed[69], exerting fear[70] into the target, sometimes making them incapable of moving as their[71] body is instinctively stuck due to the sheer difference in power[72]), Link Manipulation & Mind Manipulation (Characters can link their ki together and train within each other’s mind enacting in image training[73]), Vibration Manipulation (Seismic Vibration Manipulation; Ki users can transfer their ki into an object and cause it to vibrate and shake greatly[74]. Powerful ki users can cause the very ground itself to shake when they power up[75]), Electricity Manipulation (Powerful Ki users can generate electricity around their aura that can outright electrocute their opponents[76], Goku and Piccolo Jr. showcased being able to utilize their aura as pure electricity during their clash[77]), Weather Manipulation (Powerful Ki users can generate entire storms through merely powering up alone, Nappa used this in order to conjure the electricity from the storm[78]. Goku showcases this when he first turns super saiyan, causing a massive lightning storm in the background[79]), Energy Manipulation (Ki is the latent power in one's body, this latent power allows them to form and create energy from controlling their ki, which can be used to shoot out energy blast[80]), Explosion Manipulation (Ki attacks can create massive explosions[81], or control the ki to set off a huge explosion under the enemy[82], or in front of them[83]), Heat Manipulation (Ki user's ki attacks produce heat allowing them to cook and grill animals and raw meat[84][85], along with leaving behind steam after the attacks hit an area, showing its latent heat. Ki users electricity aura can burn objects that touch it[86]), Light Manipulation (Ki can be used as a flash of light[87][88][89][90][91][92][93][94][95], Degisu seeing ki attacks be fired notes that the characters are "firing light from their hands"[96]).

Limited Resistance to Durability Negation (Ki users can focus their energy to localize an object to a specific spot to stop them from attempting to destroy their organs/insides[97]), Resistance to Poison Manipulation (Can resist poisons through Forcefield Creation[98])

Equipment

  • Attack Ball: This round space pod only has room for one person, which the Ginyu Force used to travel from planet to planet; notably, they were seen using this space pod to travel to Planet Namek.

Notable Techniques

  • Flight: With a mastery of Ki control, Ginyu is able to fly at incredibly high speeds.
  • Ki Blast: Using Ki, Ginyu can concentrate it into a ball that he uses as a projectile attack.
  • Body Change: Through emitting an energy beam from his mouth, Captain Ginyu can swap souls with whomever his beam makes contact with; essentially swapping bodies with them.
  • Galaxy Dynamite: Ginyu launches a barrage of purple ki blasts.
  • Milky Cannon: Ginyu focuses Ki in his palm, before launching off a giant purple blast.
  • Kamehameha: A legendary blue beam of ki, coined by Master Roshi. Ginyu obtained this technique when he took over Goku’s body.

Other

Standard Tactics: Ginyu will employ hand to hand tactics along with ki attacks. If the opponent is shown to be too strong for him he will attempt to swap bodies with them while damaging his own.

Weaknesses

Note

  • Some clips used on the profile come from an anime or movie due to the fact that some abilities from ki use shouldn't function much differently from how they can in canon, along with this sometimes the anime version/video game version of a scene will be used for cleaner visuals. Toriyama himself directly overlooks scenes in the anime and movies and gives Toei the thumbs up[102].
  • The speed scaling for PLs are taken with a grain of salt as there are noticeable times where someone's speed isn't equal to their power, such as Burter being faster then Recoome and Jeice, along with Super Saiyan Grade 3 Trunks having his power greatly increased but his speed decreased.
