~ The opening message of the game |
Summary
Mario is the main protagonist of the Super Mario World ROMhack "Mario: Call of Cthulhu." In the game he finds himself in the Dream World, summoned by the holy woman to defeat Cthulhu upon his oncoming awakening.
He awakens on the Shores of R'lyeh and travels across the island, killing zombie visages of enemies he's faced before in a regular state. Upon falling into a cavern, he hears a telepathic message from the totems of the land, saying that he should come to them if he wishes to receive their knowledge.
On approaching one of these totems, it tells him that even though it is dead, it speaks. It tells its story of when it lived, and how the cat-like tokens called "Gaunt Tokens" preserve sanity. Supposedly, it did not know of this, and it along with its other totem companions died of sheer madness.
