Noise are the primary enemies and battle fodder in The World Ends with You series.
They are a race of beings formed from a Soul bound to a Pin, manifesting between the Underground and Realground planes of Shibuya. Existing at the boundary of these two realms, Noise can influence both—physically appearing in the Underground while affecting thoughts in the Realground, often inducing negative emotions in their victims. Some Noise can also manipulate physical sensations, such as a Scorpion Noise's sting causing chills.
Noise typically take the form of animals or mythical creatures, featuring a diverse range of colors. They are often marked with tattoo-like patterns, either lining parts of their bodies or replacing sections entirely.
All Noise are composed of Soul, as is all consciousness in the Underground. They are born when Soul is bound to the code of a Reapers' pin or the negative emotions of people. However, Noise lack free will and exist solely to multiply and consume the Soul of those in the Realground by possessing them.
Even after being erased, the Soul devoured by Noise is permanently destroyed, though the freed human experiences a surge of euphoria. Noise exist on a unique plane that overlaps both the RG and UG. While the RG and UG share the same space, the Noise plane is divided into two distinct spaces. Each Noise simultaneously exists in both, sharing a single life force while moving independently within each space.
