Vulkin

Undertale/Vulkin

Vulkin is an enemy that the human can encounter in Hotland. As its name implies, Vulkin resembles a volcano, with the conical structure that is a common characteristic of volcanoes. Lava can be seen leaking from its crown, and little puffs of smoke can be seen spewing out steadily. Vulkin usually has its eyes closed and a permanent blush. Due to its cheerful attitude, it is usually seen smiling.

Appearance

General Description: Vulkin resembles a volcano, with a conical structure common to volcanoes. Lava can be seen leaking from its crown, and little puffs of smoke spew out steadily.

Facial Features: Its eyes are usually closed. It has a permanent blush and is usually seen smiling due to its cheerful attitude.

Personality

  • Happy-Go-Lucky: Vulkin is arguably the kindest enemy encountered by the human. It maintains a positive, happy-go-lucky nature and loves to support beings around it. Its innocent nature leads it to believe humans can be healed by its lava attacks, when it does the opposite.
  • Positivity and Affection: Vulkin loves to see positivity and love spread around it. The "Encourage" and "Hug" options make it even happier, causing it to work harder to assist the human or express comfort. Using "Hug" turns its eyes into hearts.
  • Vulnerable to Criticism: Vulkin's cheerfulness is severely vulnerable to sensitivity and guilt. Using "Criticize" causes it to become discouraged from attacking and display a frowning face. Further criticism by personally insulting its looks makes it cry, as it realizes it does not help the human but instead angers them.
  • Forgiving: Should the human use "Encourage" or "Hug" afterward, Vulkin returns to its usual positivity as if the criticisms were not directed at it before.

Weaknesses

Explanations

Monster Check Stats

Monster's check stats are quite dubious for a couple of reasons:

On top of these, genocide route has the check stats differ too with confusing changes, while the human's killing intent is a reason behind this, some characters have their defense stats raise such as Papyrus'. There's also inconsistencies even in these routes, for example The Human at a level 3 killing intent one-shots Toriel[16] yet The Human at level 13 can still only chip damage Asgore[17].

It should also be noted, the argument that Toriel sent Asgore flying with her fire, has an issue it was an off guard hit[18] which it has been shown off-guard/betrayal kills can one-shot monsters as they lowered their guard[19].

Magic vs. Physicality

Monsters are mostly made of magic while human beings are mostly made of water[2] making humans with their physical forms far stronger then them[2]. However humans have lost the ability to use magic by proxy[2].

Monsters bodies being made of magic has their body physically attuned to their SOUL[4]. Due to this, monsters that don't want to fight have their defenses weaken[4] and one with more killing intent and crueller intentions will inflict more damage on them[4]. This is due to a monsters SOUL being made of love, hope, and compassion[20].

Monsters bodies being made of magic also makes it where they do not possess enough physical matter to take concentrations of determination[21].

In the Undertale 10th Anniversary Livestream Gerson reveals that humanity once had magic too but creating the barrier that separated humans and monsters caused them to use up all their magic[22].
