"Spoilers Ahead"
This character or verse has been very recently made and spoilers for the story and the fate of said character are inbound, avoid reading if one would like to pursue the verse without any spoilers for themself.
Oh! N-nice to meet you, User! My name is Niko!
~ Niko first speaking to User
You found me... Why? You're already too late. Not much of the world remains. This will be apparent once you go outside. This place was never worth saving... Do you still want to try? Then remember this: Your actions here will affect Niko. Your "mission" is to help Niko leave. And most importantly... You only have one shot, User.

Background

Note: Credits to the OneShot Wiki

Niko is the playable protagonist of OneShot. They're a child with blue hair with three "whiskers" jutting out from the sides, yellow catlike eyes, and what appears to be tanned skin. They wear a brown overcoat extending over their arms, a long light blue scarf, a brown hat with catlike ears, and grayish purple bottoms that appears to be leggings. They are tasked with returning the Sun to the Tower and saving the World from dying out.

Niko contacts User throughout most of the game when in need of help or simply conversation about Niko's and User's origins.

This dropdown contains the synopsis of Niko’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Backstory

Before arriving in the World, Niko lived in a small village with around fifty residents. It is surrounded by a wheat field, which appears in most of Niko's dreams. The tallest building, a clock tower, is only two stories high, and there is a well in the middle of the town. The village is not on Earth.

Niko first awoke in a bedroom in a house in the Barrens. They encounter the "The World Machine" by the computer, who tells them that the World isn't worth saving and asking them if they still want to try saving it. Niko soon finds the lightbulb and brings it with them upon exiting the house. They encounter the Prophetbot and inquire to them regarding the World, the lightbulb, User and for directions on how to return home. After receiving answers, Niko continues on their quest.

Personality

Niko is kind and caring. Being the messiah that the prophecy has foretold, they became determined to reach the Spire and bring the sun back to it in order to save the World, even despite what others say that the sun won't stop the World from dying. Niko is also helpful. A few instances of their helpfulness are seen in the game such as where they repair the rowbot at the dock part in the Barrens and volunteer to find Alula and return her to Calamus. Upon reaching the Refuge, they began to express indecisiveness, as seen where they have trouble choosing whether to bring back the World's sun but risk losing their only chance to return to their home world or whether to shatter the lightbulb, destroying the World instantly and for them to return to their home world. Niko also tends to be curious. They often turn to User to ask questions, most of them are regarding any information about the User.

User, also known as god, is the secondary protagonist of OneShot. Out-of-universe, they are the player moving Niko; in-universe, they are the god of the World, tasked with guiding Niko through it and saving them along with the World in one shot. The Player's name is by default the username on your PC, but this can be changed when Niko asks the player's name when they first contact the player.
This dropdown contains the synopsis of User’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise!

Guiding Niko

Out-of-universe, The Player moves Niko and manages their inventory with the keyboard; in-universe, what actually occurs is ambiguous. It is implied that The Player is not directly telling Niko what to do, nor is The Player physically controlling Niko, as both movement and inventory management are done before Niko is ever aware that The Player exists. Prophetbot remarks that The Player has been "guiding" Niko throughout the entirety of their journey since slightly after they woke up (the moment the first cutscene ends).

The Player converses often with Niko about their journey and both of their pasts. The Player has the choice of choosing conversational options that will develop their character; for example, Niko will ask The Player if they reside in a city or somewhere else.

The Player's guidance is critical to Niko's progress, as throughout their journey, they encounter several puzzles and elements outside of the game itself, which Niko cannot access and which The Player must intervene.

The Player champions themselves as a 'kind god' and a helpful god, which Niko later reflects mutually. The Player and Niko are implied to have been very good friends from the time they spent together, with The Player having the optional ability to urge Niko to perform actions such as making them do a robot voice and riding around on an automated floor vacuum.

Personality

Based on in-game dialogue and options, The Player is equally as determined as Niko to save the world. They often lend Niko their aid in puzzle solving and deciding what action to take next, acting as an adviser or strategist to Niko.

The Player has proven themselves to be very resourceful, as they are able to improvise solutions and plan for the future on-the-fly. It is implied that The Player is solely managing Niko's inventory (as Niko will remark on The Player's inventory decisions), demonstrating that The Player is able to combine and repurpose countless items to suit the cause, speeding Niko's progress through the world.

The Player is known to easily collapse under guilt, as they are completely unable to hide the truth about The Sun from Niko, even if the out-of-universe user deliberately chooses the "keep quiet" options. The World Machine even taunts The Player for their immense care for Niko by saying "You might as well tell Niko the truth. You do care about Niko, don't you?".

As evidenced by The Player's in-game title being "god" and not "God", The Player has several abilities beyond the boundaries of the game but is neither omnipotent nor omniscient. This is referenced at least once at the end of the game when The Player learns the truth about The Sun for the first time, and admits to Niko that they don't know what will happen to them.

Powers and Techniques

Fate Protection (As stated by the Prophetbot, The Author's prophecy foretold that Niko is the messiah fated to save the world by using The Sun. Stated to have been destined to meet Prototype. An entire team had made a prophecy that a messiah would arrive after the destruction of the old world. Noted by Word of God to be chosen by fate and destiny), Divine Protection (Niko is connected with User, who exists beyond the OneShot world and is always guiding Niko; controlling their actions while being the god of the world. Also gains assistance from The Author by sending pages to User, helping out Niko), Telepathy & Breaking the Fourth Wall (Niko is the only person to be able to communicate with User and speak to them for advice), Regeneration (High-Godly; When User closes the game, Niko notes how reality goes blank. Meaning that the game's existence relies on User being awake and active. Once returning to the game, Niko comes back too), Reality Warping (If Niko ever sleeps or is in a state similar, the world will close itself), Dimensional Travel (User can pull Niko from his world to the world of OneShot. Upon destroying The Sun, Niko can leave OneShot and walk out of it), Immortality (Protection from Source & Reliance [On Person]; Niko's existence is tied to User, who states they will regenerate Niko anytime it's needed. Niko's existence is linked with the universe itself. If they were to ever die, be incapacitated, or leave, then the world ends), Acausality (Temporal Singualrity; Should Niko finish his goal, User can choose to restart all of the events, in which Niko can remember and some actions still be done), Social Influencing (Convinced The World Machine to come to its senses and restore its broken code after doubting itself and wanting to kill everyone apart from Niko, including itself).

Resistance to Poison Manipulation (Niko can take a breathe from poison gas, but was scanned later to be healthy), Causality Manipulation, Plot Manipulation (Story Manipulation; Reader Authority), Mind Manipulation/Memory Manipulation, Conceptual Manipulation, Reality Warping (Even after User resets and deletes the game, Niko still remembers the events and some of his actions are still there), Irreversible Damage (Can touch the squares just fine, which were stated to be able to cause irreversible damage)

Fire Manipulation (By mixing alcohol and the tree branch, Niko can create a torch with anything flammable. Can use molotov cocktails), Acid Manipulation (By mixing toxic gas with the strange liquid, Niko can create a bottle of acid that is noted to be stronger than normal household acid), Limited Self-Sustenance (Type 2; With the water pill, Niko can take a full week without needing any water).

Resistance to Poison Manipulation & Fragrance Manipulation (The gas mask allows Niko to breathe through poison gas), Acid Manipulation (His rubber gloves resist acid), Creation (The Author's book can create things that are drawn on)

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Telepathy (User can directly speak to Niko from behind the screen. Can see Nikos dreams), Erasure (Space-Time Erasure; When User closes the game, Niko notes how reality goes blank. Meaning that the game's existence relies on User being awake and active), Higher-Dimensional Existence (User is noted to live in a higher plane of existence from an entirely different world), BFR (User can pull Niko from his home world to the world of OneShot), Data Manipulation, Plot Manipulation (Story Manipulation; Reader Authority), Causality Manipulation, Information Manipulation, Reality Warping, Conceptual Manipulation (User can delete/rewrite OneShot itself, including The World Machine, which manifested into OneShot itself), Acausality (Causality Immunity; Views all of OneShot as fiction, transcending the game's prophecy and The World Machine's attempt to halt the game's story as a whole while also transcending The Author, who also transcends the mentioned abilities. Unaffected by OneShot being destroyed while having all of the events restart), Breaking the Fourth Wall (Aware of OneShot only being a game), Power Nullification (Bypasses The World Machine's restriction to restart OneShot), Memory Manipulation (Upon resetting the game, everyone loses their memories), Regeneration Negation (High-Godly; User alongside The Author can forever destroy The World Machine and stop it from coming back after the game is destroyed, though they can still choose to restore it themselves should they redownload it all), Omnipresence (True Omnipresence; Views the totality of The World Machine as only a simulation, seeing the world as a small box. User views The Author as small who also views OneShot as only a tiny screen).

Resistance to Erasure (Space-Time Erasure; Unaffected by The Sun destroying all of OneShot), Reality Warping, Conceptual Manipulation, Plot Manipulation, Causality Manipulation (Unaffected by The World Machine's attempts to finish the game early. The World Machine is a conceptual being due to being OneShot itself that cannot affect User), Irreversible Damage (Should scale above Niko, who's unaffected by The World Machine's squares)
Breaking the Fourth Wall & Telepathy (The World Machine can directly speak with User. Changed the background), Self-Sustenance (All types), Data Manipulation (Can glitch documents sent to User's computer), Reality Warping & Death Manipulation (The World Machine can send glitches to kill off people and can decay the world. Can change the surrounding world to create a prison that requires help from The Author), Technological Manipulation (Can take control of computers and machines), Incorporeality (Noted to have no physical form), Conceptual Manipulation (The World Machine is OneShot itself, and was noted to be the spirit of it. Originally it was a desire to destroy the world that's been manifested), Plot Manipulation (Story Manipulation; Author Authority; Created a false ending to OneShot before The Author interfered. After being tamed, it had an easier time building its own code), Sealing (The World Machine can create looping rooms for someone to get stuck in), Regeneration (High-Godly; Even after the game is deleted, The World Machine can still return back. Can fix its code after being destroyed by the squares, which can cause irreversible damage), Irreversible Damage (It's stated that the squares can cause irreversible damage), Resurrection (Brought back Maize after dying naturally), Portal Creation (Can create a portal), Memory Manipulation (Can recreate the world of OneShot using Niko's memories), Cosmic Awareness (Is aware of everything that goes on within OneShot, only being unaware of what will happen if the story changes)
