Background
Kyle & Ken Katayanagi, also known as The Katayanagi Twins, are Ramona Flowers' fifth and sixth evil exes. Scott has to fight them at the same time, to his disadvantage. They are twins, and the final bosses of Volume 5, although the dramatic overtones of the volume push the Twins into the background.
This dropdown contains the synopsis of Kyle & Ken Katayanagi’s story. Read at your own risk as you may be spoiled otherwise! |
---|
Relationship with Ramona It is known that Ramona used to date both of them at the same time, but without each knowing about the other (basically cheating on both of them). When the truth was revealed, the twins had sworn to always do everything together from that moment on. There seems to be no hostility between the two considering their former relationship with Ramona. They seem to place the blame solely on her. Scott ends up having to fight the twins 4 times before really winning the battle. Encounter with Scott Scott first met them at Julie Powers' Mexican Day of the Dead party. Instead of fighting him head on, they force Scott to fight and defeat Robot-01 while Kim and Ramona go out on the balcony for a smoke and talk. Robot-01 is a smaller robot and seen knocked out when Kim Pine and Ramona come back inside. Scott is disappointed when he finds out there's no reward for winning this fight. The second battle puts Scott against another of the Twins' robots at Sneaky Dee's during the concert Sex Bob-omb intended to perform at - which goes disastrously. Again, this battle is glossed over as we're again set to listen to Ramona talking, this time, with Knives, and the only action we catch is the end where Scott decapitates the robot with his bass, breaking both in the process. The third match is at another of Julie's parties, where it's revealed that Julie is apparently dating the Twins. Ramona heads out onto the balcony while Scott goes toe-to-toe with another robot, which is much larger than the other two. The aftermath of the fight is seen with Scott standing over the robot with its arm ripped off and head removed. Defeat After the party, the Twins follow Kim Pine to the subway, where they abduct her in order to force Scott into the open. The final battle puts Scott against both the twins who specialize in tag-team tandem moves giving Scott a total disadvantage, while Kim is held hostage in a swinging cage nearby. Scott gets the crap kicked out of him while the Twins taunt and demoralize him, but Kim intervenes with her cell phone claiming (falsely) that she received a message from Ramona who can't wait to see him soon. Scott, spurred on by Ramona's love, fights back and defeats the Twins simultaneously with knees to the head for a bonus, and unlocks an achievement for defeating both Twins in unison. |

Name: Kyle katayanagi
Origin: Scott Pilgrim
Sex: Male
Age: Unknown, likely mid 20s
Classification: Human, Engineer, Evil Ex
Dimensionality: 3-D
Attack Potency: Continent level (Given each evil ex gets progressively stronger, he should be superior to Todd Ingram who punched a giant hole in the moon that subsequently caused tons of explosions and tidal waves back on earth twice. Fought an emotionally unstable Scott Pilgrim) | Varies from Multi-City Block level to Continent level (Has a subspace avatar that he can make as strong as he wants)
Durability: Continent level (Should be superior to he and his brother's robots who fought and endured combat with Scott Pilgrim) | Varies from Multi-City Block level to Continent level (Has a subspace avatar that he can make as durable as he wants)
Striking Strength: Continent Class | Varies from Multi-City Block Class to Continent Class
Lifting Strength: Unknown | Unknown
Travel Speed: Superhuman | Superhuman
Combat Speed: Relativistic (Landed several hits on Scott Pilgrim) | Relativistic
Reaction Speed: Relativistic | Relativistic. Can't be blitzed while in subspace due to the way space-time works
Stamina: Superhuman (Built multiple robots to challenge Scott Pilgrim in quick succession. Can fight Scott Pilgrim)
Range: Standard Melee, Extended Melee with his brother, Multiversal with Subspace Manipulation (The size of subspace expands this large)

All previous powers and abilities to an unknown extent. Regeneration (Low-Godly. Subspace avatars are avatars of pure cognition of one's true self and by extension can be restored by the true form at will), Immortality (Type 3, 5, 6, and 8. Subspace avatars are avatars of pure cognition of one's true self and by extension can be restored by the true form at will. Concepts such as death are irrelevant to them as even if one dies they will just be sent into subspace. Even spirits can freely pass through and from Subspace. All damage done to a subspace avatar means nothing to them, Scott could lose his limbs in subspace and be cut in half and would still be perfectly fine), Abstract Existence (Type 1. The subspace avatar is a being of pure cognition, existing as a mere thought in the realm of subspace, with the effects done to their body being useless as it will always regenerate back or be unaffected by acts such as cutting it in half, even if the true user dies the subspace avatar will still exist), Acausality (Type 3. Subspace is a different space-time where all rules are different (including death), thus it should by extension be a different system of causality), Perspective Manipulation (Perception is Law. People, items, and Mind Subspace itself are based on the nature of the person's mind, therefore, however, a person imagines Subspace is how it will appear. A good example is Scott's Dream Desert: this location is repeatedly used as a metaphor for Scott's loneliness but also is his projected image of Subspace at that time which Ramona is able to pass through), Law Manipulation (One’s subspace operates under their rules and systems which can extend even to the real world with characters like Gideon affecting Ramona’s Subspace), Reality Warping & Mind Manipulation (While Mind Subspace allows for others' own projected images of themselves to take on other forms, the individual whom the Subspace resides in retains all power and control within said mind. Through this, the character can shape themselves and Subspace to their liking all through their thoughts, perspectives, and desires), Power Nullification (A user of Subspace can completely nullify any connection an opponent has in that Subspace, regardless if they're more powerful or not. This is how Ramona was able to expel Gideon despite him being a master of Subspace and able to manipulate it inside anyone's mind), Dimensional Travel (Can enter his avatars at any point if he so desires even after death)

Standard Tactics: Kyle and Ken often prefer not to engage directly in combat and instead will use their robots to test and learn their opponents (Often times with multiple models). Only after they feel comfortable enough do they manipulate their opponent's emotions and morals to get the better of them in dire4ct combat.
Weaknesses: None notable.
