Background

Hanzo Hasashi, also known as Scorpion, is a ninja, and honourable member of the Shirai Ryu clan, who serves as the face of the Mortal Kombat series. While most of his backstory is unknown, it is known that Hanzo’s entire family was killed, which fuels his anger and leads to most of the decisions he goes on to make in the series.

Initially believing that the Elder Sub-Zero, Bi-Han, was the murderer of his family, Scorpion found any chance he could to face him in battle. However, after a fateful battle, the Elder Sub-Zero was able to kill Hanzo, sending him to Netherrealm. However, with an undying hatred, Scorpion lives on as a spectre, and escapes the Nether world. After tracking down Bi-Han yet again, he was finally able to kill him.

However, despite killing Bi-Han, Scorpion did not feel fulfilled whatsoever. Things grew even worse when Bi-Han’s younger brother, Kuai Liang, donned the blue robes and became the new Sub-Zero. Filled yet again with vengeance, Scorpion tracked down the new Sub-Zero, and sparked a new rivalry.

Throughout the years, Scorpion battled Sub-Zero, though neither were able to kill the other. It was only after many battles that Scorpion discovered the real killer of his family; Quan-Chi. However, despite his entire motivation being flipped on its head, Scorpion’s rivalry with Sub-Zero never truly died.

In the final Battle of Armageddon, Scorpion allied himself with the Forces of Darkness as a means to oppose Sub-Zero, who fought for the Forces of Light. Scorpion did well in making his way up the pyramid, but in the end, he met his final demise at the end of Sub-Zero’s Kori Blade.
