You would fight me? Very well, then... Marshal your power and... Try to stop me!
~ Zeekeeper
You have great strength... I concede you are powerful... But so, too, am I! The battle is not over yet! Twice you have forced me to tear a dimensional rift.

Oh, DUDE! What is UP! It's been forever! Dreambert! My man! Why didn't you speak up? Totally didn't notice you!

Background

The Zeekeeper is a character who appears in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. He is the guardian figure of the Pi'illo Kingdom, who helped them take down Antasma many thousands of years before the events of the game. The name is derived from the word "beekeeper" through a combination of the American English phonetic spelling of the letter Z, which symbolizes sleep, and the word "keeper", referring to his status as a guardian.

Powers and Techniques

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Longevity (Has lived for thousands of years as he's fought Antasma before being imprisoned), Self-Sustenance (Respiratory Self-Sustenance; Mario characters can generally breathe in space and underwater), Large Size (Type 3; Larger than volcanoes such as Mount Pajama), Enhanced Senses (Can smell evil), Flight (Naturally flies using his wings), Light Manipulation (Emits a bright light around his body), Dimensional Travel & Spatial Manipulation (The Zeekeeper can tear a dimensional rift that can cross through dream worlds. He can also leave and enter dream worlds), Energy Projection (Can conjure balls of energy to attack with that can also endure attacks). He can also fire a large beam called the Wakebeam), Explosion Manipulation & Creation (Can create explosive eggs), Sound Manipulation & Air Manipulation (His scream is loud enough to cause a strong wind and push people back), Size Manipulation (Can revert to a smaller size), Non-Standard Interaction (All Mario characters can harm Boos and ghosts), Reality Warping (Affected the Dream World as he caused a dimensional rift), Matter Manipulation & Transmutation (Noted that he can restore the Dream Stone's dust back into the Dream Stone. Turned the Dream Stone into a giant Dream Coin), Paint Manipulation which includes: Conceptual Manipulation (Paint makes up everything, anyone in Mario can remove paint by attacking), Life Manipulation & Death Manipulation (Paint is all of life, and removal of it can cause a person or object to have no life within, having their concept of life be removed), Blood Manipulation (Paint makes up all of blood within someone, removing it is the same as removing their blood), Mind Manipulation & Memory Manipulation (Paint makes up the mind, as paint beings can directly speak to your mind by coloring your thoughts. Loss of paint can also remove your mind and memories), Spatial Manipulation (Paint makes up all of space. Removing it makes space as if it was solid), Metaphysics Manipulation (Soul Manipulation; Paint makes up souls and ghosts. Removing it is the equivalent of destroying your soul), Empathic Manipulation (Paint makes up all emotions. Removing it would mean the removal of emotion), Power Nullification (Paint makes up the ability to use powers. Removing it would mean the removal of using powers).

Notable Techniques

  • Zee Eggs: The Zeekeeper bombards opponents with his explosive eggs
  • Wake Orbs: The Zeekeeper unleashes rainbow-colored orbs at his foes. These energy orbs have homing capabilities, can be split into smaller orbs, and fly in distinct patterns at the target.
  • Wake Beam: The Zeekeeper opens his presumably third eye and fires a rainbow-colored laser at the target, then finishes off by cloaking himself in rainbow-colored energy and charges straight at the foe. Due to not using this move for a long time, he becomes exhausted after using this move.
  • Light Tackle: The Zeekeeper cloaks himself in light and tackles the foes at high speed and quick succession.
  • Dimensional Cross: The Zeekeeper tears open a dimensional rift and crosses it, dragging his foes in it as well and proceeds to attack the opponents in it.

Other

Standard Tactics: The Zeekeeper will generally try to ram itself at an opponent, use its eggs, energy beams, and tear dimensional rifts in its battle.

Weaknesses: Has gotten more lazy overtime, and using its Waking Beam will tire him out due to having to not use it for so long.

  1. "If you're familiar with things like Popeye and some of the old comic characters, you would oftentimes see this cast of characters that takes on different roles depending on the comic or cartoon," Miyamoto said. "They might be businessman in one [cartoon] or a pirate in another. Depending on the story that was being told, they would change roles. So, to a certain degree, I look at our characters in a similar way and feel that they can take on different roles in different games."
